I remember that the first thing that popped into my mind upon touching the game was: wow, this whole fury cycle must make speedrunning it really overcomplicated. Imagine the migraine that would be coming up with the routing! And a single mistake, if big enough, could permanently mess up stuff with the run!
This game was almost doomed to be a bad speedrunning experience, but then a hero came out of nowhere to make Bowser's Fury more fun and fast

@@Vichola My point stands. Yeah, speedrunning brings a lot of people to the game, but the games aren't made for speedrunners only. Bowser's fury Is a good exampl.
Why do you think speedrunners use bugs so much? Because they are trying to speedrun the game that wasn't made for speedrunning as the main target of the game.

COMPLETELY agree with this video, i honestly found the bowser cycles as such a cool and unique concept for speedrunning and it didnt disapoint! also OMG THOSE CARDBOARD CUTOUTS ARE DOPE

I love complicated game mechanics being talked in layman's terms
A question: what is your opinion on the 100% category of Bowser's Fury? It obviously presents more challenges since you need to get shines that require Fury Mode to be collected (fury blocks, lucky island), and as such, unlike Any%, there's still quite a lot of waiting around for Fury Mode to activate in 100% world records. Do you think this can eventually be routed out, or will 100% always have boring waiting sections?
It really depends on whether or not they can find something that makes the fury cycles shorter in post game. It's the same problem we had in any% except nobody has figured a solution out yet afaik
@@Fir they can also probably plan around where the lucky island is post-game, as well as find different shines that they can do while waiting

fir I used to watch your aum runs in smp back when it was called aum in around 2018-19. After leaving the smo speed running scene after sub hour was broken I stopped watching u, but you popped up in my recommended today and I decided to watch. I loved this vid and am super glad i found ur channel again

that last part, something about one second saving half a second, think of it like a timer not as an abstract concept, but one of those egg timers that you twist and it slowly untwists over time. Once you reach a certain point (a shrine threshold) the egg timer is now untwisting twice as fast. The faster you can reach the threshold, the more time it spends untwisting faster. It's going 2x faster, so every second you spend watching it untwist super fast is equivalent to two seconds of you scrambling to get the shines to reach the threshold
and if THAT doesn't make sense...

If you don't fight bowser after you unlock the wastelands, you can fight final bowser early
I hate the final Bowser fight in this game, where you have to chase him with Plessie; the moments he's vulnerable aren't consistent (I've often jumped over ramps but been unable to hit the sphere), and his attacks are incredibly hard to avoid.
Just...ugh, such a disappointing and frustrating end to a decent little game.

Dead rising has this problem so hard that the official speedruns require you to install mods

As a game designer I'm interested. Can these bus stops be good for speedrunning, or should they always be avoided?
most of the bus stops are just a consequence of technical or design limitations, and while it's probably better to avoid them where possible you shouldn't do so if it compromises on the rest of the experience somehow.
In the case of Bowser's Fury it'd be nice if just travelling to the Giga Bell when you've hit the Shine threshold forced Fury to start so you could progress at your leisure.
It's probably usually safe to cut out the bus stops if it's feasible but should examine the repercussions it might serve and how players might exploit or be affected by it, and if you're okay with that.

But isn't reloading a game supposed to be its own category? There are a lot of games where you can skip a lot of a game or at least skip backtracking areas simply by reloading. I can't say I'm normally a fan of those types of runs but I guess bowsers fury needs it in order to be interesting.
yeah it's the sort of thing where it's entirely a case by case basis with each game community. With bowser's fury it's basically necessary to the point where if there was a category with no save + reloading it wouldn't be nearly as fun and I doubt as many people would run it.
Not trying to be mean, just thought I should mention that the red border around the thumbnail kinda looks like the “already watched” bar, and I almost didn’t click because I thought I had already done so before, which I hadn’t. You may want to tweak the colors just a tad bit in the future, at least on the bottom side, unless you don’t see it as much of a problem. Have a wonderful day.
