  • This is a project that I built with my dad back in the mid 80s. We demoed the boathouse Hauled off to be reclaimed had to excavate in front of the existing seawall. Bricks concrete lumber lots of trash was dumped over the wall this all had to be removed before installation of the new seawall.
    Because of the close proximity of the swimming pool to the new seawall we had to use manta ray earth anchoring systems in this area.

    I have put in piling with my dad since i was 15 years old and now i run the business. I have learned an immense amount from the man. Im proud to be a second generation pile buck. We live in michigan and i wouldnt trade working on the lakes driving sheets for anything. Everyone wants to do it but not everyone can do it right! You guys rock!

      Thanks for writing
      me and watching my channel. That’s a good story to hear. I actually started after hurricane Frederick with my dad in 1979 building docks, and just grew from there. I still love it that’s why I’m still out in the field doing the actual work.

    Stinky mud is one thing and Stinky people throwing their trash over the seawall is another. And, allow me to quote from this video "Wherever there is a hole, somebody is going to shove sumpin in it" - I wholeheartedly agree! Dale, I will see you again soon at your wife's reclamation yard as we have another enclosure to build.

      Yeah I’m sure you’re familiar with the stinky mud and after I said that I was like oh probably shouldn’t of said that 🙄🤷🏻‍♂️😂

      @@Paulie1232 crap? I guess you were referring to the stuff that was dumped over the wall yeah it is definitely not advisable but they were probably trying to say it was riprap. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Always an interesting video. At 3:06, with having to screw those nuts on that far, a pinched skateboard wheel that won't spin, on a 6'' rod in a cordless screw driver, will spin them down that threaded rod super fast. Thumbs up !!

    Dale, Thanks for the great video. Can you tell me what that attachment is on the excavator? Is that by Caterpillar? I have a machine and want to find that attachment or equivalent. Also where can I can the driver and Manta rays? Any suggestions? Thanks again!!

      Thanks for your comment and watching my channel. The quick coupler attachment was purchased a Catapiller. I don’t really recommend a manual one after I’ve used it for several years. I’ve had to replace it three times gets full of sand. I have a hydraulic one now that I just purchased with a new tractor last week, I’ll get some videos of that posted the Man ta ray driver and anxhors you can purchase from Coastal products Gulfbreeze Florida tell him I sent you please.

    Love the videos. What do you think of weed holes or something similar to the Jet Filter system in the use of seawalls? What do you typically do for drainage? Thanks.

      Hey Tom thanks for your comment yes we use well points and they go four foot back into the soil and are usually install on about 10 foot centers.
      Thanks for watching 👍

    Dale, do you use the soil anchors and also drive additional tie back piles? How do you decide when to only use soil anchors vs when yo use both soil anchors and tie back piling?

    • @DaleWHickman
      @DaleWHickman  Před rokem

      Thanks for your comment and watching my CZcams channel. That is a good question. We had a swimming pool behind this wall and we’re not able to dig back 12 foot to install the Piling tieback system so we go with a manta ray tie back system to drive them below the swimming pool. Also, if it’s a finished landscape yard will install the manta ray tue back systems to prevent from damaging the yard too much.

    i guess with that solid anchoring it can bear the load of the ground against it?

    • @DaleWHickman
      @DaleWHickman  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, you would be surprised with Pilings or Manta Ray Anchors will hold. I’ve got a 15 ton hydraulic jack that won’t pull them out of the ground when installed properly.

      I’ve done a few of them. It’s just not really a popular cap around here. People don’t wanna pay the money for them.
