GULF BREEZE FL, new stair addition to a large hillside, replacing failing tiebacks on a seawall
On this project here, the customer wanted to move the Sarra system out of their view so we moved it to the side of the property with a much gradual easier set of stairs to walk on then installed new three-quarter type 316 stainless steel tieback rods with new tieback pilings to support the Seawall the previous rods had corroded and failed. We also move the customers lift catwalk to fit a larger boat, then installed a dock for easier access along with two sets of aluminum retractable stairs.

PENSACOLA, HURRICANE DESTROYED GALIA MARINA DEMO

We just started the demo of the Galia marina that was taking out during hurricane Sally. This Brina was built out of greenheart pilings which was harvested from Guyana and South America in the Amazon. These polls are 90 pounds per cubic foot with the density of 3000 psi as strong as concrete. Very heavy I decided to purchase a sawmill to start chopping these up for hardwood Flooring cabinets wh...

Here’s another seawall in a line of Seawalls that were replacing the equals 300 foot. This one was a little more difficult due to the overhang of the large oak tree in the existing boathouse. Once we got started, there was an existing vinyl wall that was failing and a creosote wall that had been Replaced and left in place that we had to remove.

The seawall was failing due to the tiebacks rusting off and the old Timber wall being eaten by Treto board worms. Upon removing this wall, we found another creosote wall behind that it failed also that we had to remove. We didn’t install a new 20 foot sheet piling with 20 foot naval style piles to support the embankment.

On this project we met our engineer on site to discover the pilings that support the retainer wall were notched almost into for the tieback rods to support the wall. This is not satisfactory as you could see in the video. Some of the pilings had started to fail and split so we reinforced the wall. And the greenheart are very heavy. Id say anywhere fro 80 to 100 lbs a linear foot. But they're definitely superior to a cca pile because of the natural oils that inhibit marine growth. But they definitely cost some $$$.

These guys do good work.... I always wondered how long equipment lasts for the Marine companies under those harsh conditions. It must be expensive as hell to build docks and seawall because if you have to replace your equipment every 6 to 7 years and the caterpillar 308 it's about $170,000 that is not pocket change.... I've been to auctions and you can tell the equipment that was used by the Marine companies... Because they're all rotten to hell.... Marine companies most least their equipments

    • @DaleWHickman

Thanks for your comment and question. Concrete; caps really increases the cost of the seawall. It makes it hard to be competitive with some of the smaller contractors in the area. Most people just really don’t care for it. They like the synthetic top cap which allows a good pressure release during storms with the gaps in between the deck.

Thanks for watching my channel and your comment. There’s a lot of different variables to go in to pricing that would have to be something done by the estimating department. I don’t like to share prices on the Internet as giving away numbers to local competition.

Thanks for your comment and question if proper treatment is used on the deadman pilings they last forever as long as you eliminate the oxygen decreases rot. But you definitely have to use the right treatments.
