Classic Mini Cooper RSP Renovation Ep 9 petrol tank refurb

After the disgusting SU HIF44 carb with 20 years old fuel which had turned into varnish required a rebuild, the fuel tank and fuel lines are assessed and refurbished

If you take the sender out of the RSP tank it would give you more access to clean it out. It might be possible to reuse it in the 89 Mini.
The engine sounds smooth

That was some grotty fuel,the engine sounded really well tho

Absolutely. The smell was of varnish. I can still smell the residue days after! Yes, I am pleased with the running it starts quickly with a bit of choke but is still only on the carb base set up and hasn’t been tuned but the way it’s running it’s not far off I don’t think.

Guess you can clean the tank better when the sender is out.

Yep I’ll be going back in with a new sender so can get a bit more crud out. Just keeping an eye on the fuel filter to so what comes through…
