I find other CZcams sailors are escaping from life where Sam is embracing life. He inspires me on so many levels.
So true. Positively
The old fishing boat iirc broke away from somewhere near kinlochleven. The two mast yacht was moored at the other side of the loch and broke its mooring in a storm a couple of years ago.
Hey Sam, no one would be mad if you had hour long videos ;) just sayin. I look forward to every one!
Sam Is always moving, I love that. Not to mention he is covering a lot of ground and visiting sweet spots. I think you are one of the few CZcams sailors who do that. I don’t know much about sailing but I take it you are a good sailor, you have the capabilities to travel long distances, where I think other you tubers don’t feel as comfortable. And your ability to communicate all things Sailing is also fun to listen too. Safe travels sir!
Your editing is great too! Your able to keep my attention with your scene flipping. Again, safe travels, can’t wait to you hit the Mediterranean. Though I would of liked to have seen the Mediterranean in the summer. lol
You are by far one of the most joyous people on You Tube, heck all of social media. No matter the situation, theres always a bright side and a smile...you're a good egg Charlie Brown, from a fellow Floridian from Pompano Bach
Agreed, here is Sam: "well, my mast just broke off, tiller is gone, we are taking on an unsurmountable amount of water, and a shark just took my leg, but will you look at this view, I love it out here!" Sam, I am having a better life because of you, thanks 😊!
The moment when i can switch off the engine and sail in silence .... best part of any boat trip :)
loved the random train sighting. very cool, vintage locomotive. Loving Scotland
Lovely to see you up in my old stamping ground. Great videos of the tide in the north channel and Corran narrows.
My mother's people came from Fort William. Thanks for the tour.
I love this guy. Always calm, cool and collected. And he enjoys life on his own terms.
Sam I wish I could have your lifestyle. Problem is if I sailed off into the distance I would never be seen again. Amazing videos as usual. Looking forward to your next adventure.⛵️
I like how you show your course on the chart. Love the channel.
Hahah this is awesome to see you exploring the town, Fort William is a lovely town and amazing for anyone that enjoys the outdoors.
It really is!
Great adventure Sam. Thanks for sharing!
Great video, the number of project boats is amazing! Sam you could be busy repairing boats thru winter! These places seem so familiar to me. Good sailing and God bless.
love you dude, just got a Beneteau 285 and you’ve given me heaps of inspiration
Keep living the dream its awsome sam thanks for your documentary and our passion for sailing those wrecks were cool!
Sam, Your adventures Never never ceases to amaze me . . . . Love your adventurous spirit . . . and your positive outlook on LIFE . . . .
Hey Sam! Even when you're not sailing in insane sailing conditions in your wee boat you're still my favourite crazy guy! Don't take that the wrong way either, it's all compliment bro! Always got a huge smile and see the best in everything. What an outlook on life too! Just jump in your boat and go see the world. Man i wish i knew how to sail, and had a boat to sail in, and had huge "cahonas" to sail the places you sail,,,, ya know! lol 👍
@felony truckin The big Kahoonas aren't necessary
@felony truckin Easily
@felony truckin Cool, buy me 2 bro! Then i'll have a spare for "when" the first one breaks down. For crossing the Atlantic i'd want something more than just about safe too! A 10k boat isn't going to hold out unless you have a truck load of luck!
lol sure thing Popeye! I take it you haven’t worked out we can see your previous comments! DOH! Your a funny guy! 🥴
@felony truckin I have found them for $5K
Fantastic, Sam you are making us drunk with desire to explore those places. 2 thumbs up on this adventure. Keep It up and write a book
Beautiful shots of dolphins! Your adventure is very inspiring!
I love this guy man suck positive energy always smiling no matter what i will definitely be sticking round atarted watching u about 2 weeks ago great work
Loved the Steam Locomotive! Thanks!
God Speed Sam.
Great stuff Skipper Sam, cheers!
We had a great holiday in one of the houses right by where you anchored at Corpach locks. Loved watching and riding the Jacobite out to Mallaig. There is a decent shop just behind the houses to save the walk into town. Good whisky from the distillery too, especially the Victorian era one. Great part of the world.
Nice to see you going there, I have some good memories living in Oban
Cool video Sam.. beautiful country. Enjoy buddy.
Hi Sam, thanks for sharing another great video 👍👍⛵️⛵️😍
Used to live in FW. Fished and walked the dog in Corpach most evenings. Nice to see the place from here though, cheers Sam!! Great job!!
That steam locomotive you saw was the last in the series of toy trains that lured highland children into a dreary life of maintaining 19th century English textile looms. Hogwarts Express being the reverse commute.
Great vid Sam, love Fort William
Very good video!
Sam. These Videos are really cool. Love the footage and thumbs up!
good stuff as always smilin' sam.
thnx a lot.
Thanks!
Great work
God bless Sam Holmes watching from Philippines
I could see you coming up the Loch. Was swimming in Cuil Bay. Great video 🤙
I just found your channel and have watched several videos. I subbed! Love your content and I'd like to add a huge thank you for not overlaying annoying music over your video(s)!!!
Thanks for another awesome video sam👊👊👍👍
Ballstronaut to Global Sailor, cool watching the evolution . Fairwinds Sam.
Would you do a demonstration/instructional on how the windvane autopilot system works?
You got to the canal around noon, but it was locked…or loched because Scotland.
This channel is so good!
WAY TOO SHORT!!! We want more!!
Indeed that was a nice train a steam locomotive pulling the passenger cars hardly ever see anything like that in this world anymore I like how they keep them restored and going down the rails they have one here in this city also and they park it out by the fence for everybody to see and they have another one they use to go towards Reno Nevada on the tracks plowing snow I've seen that one and asking me more and it was powerful wouldn't want to be in the path of that and get very better snow anyway nice place Sam take care God bless you
Thanks for sharing Sam💯that train was wicked cool👍if that castle were in the USA , it would be knocked down for a Walmart 😂😂😂stay safe Sam and thanks again💯👍🙏🙏
Bow riding buddies, always good to see
Beautiful Part of the world, my sister lives north of Fort William, have to go on that ferry, stunning up there.
Love Fort William nice place one day i finish work on my first boat i sail up there :) good luck man
5:00 Ben Nevis in the starboard distance
Tell 'em Groundskeeper Willie said ta' let ye in!!!
Keep on Sailing buddy....
Can't believe you passed Oban without pulling in for the day. It's a beautiful seaside town with a lot of history and a great distillery! If you get a chance to go by there again it's worth the visit.
Naw it isnae.
At least you appear to be able to tell the difference between a lock 🔐 a Loch and the Caledonian canal locks ,it's cool I am of on holiday am heading to the Lickdistrict.
Hi Sam, good steady progress. The train you saw was the 'Hogwarts Express' - the train in the Harry Potter series.
Its actually called the Jacobite but yeah it played the Hogwarts Express.
@@LB1973 Jayzuz man, sometimes if you've got nothing to say, say nothing. I'm sure if I'd said it was the Jacobite, it would have meant nothing to most folks.
@@jomurphy7106 firstly you never said anything. Secondly I'm from fort william and the jacobite steam train has been running for 40 years now. Predating HP by many years. I'm just pointing out what it's actually called adding to the information that it doubled for the Hogwarts Express. I'm not sure why that is seen as some kind of attack 🤔
I think I'll just bow out and defer to your encyclopedic knowledge of the train. BTW, I live adjacent to Helensburgh Upper, so I'm no stranger to the train either. Have a nice day.
Those are black 5s. In HP they used a wrong painted GWR engine. But that run to Mallaig is 1 of the best, most wonderful train rides anywhere.
very cool
You are in for a treat on The Caledonian Canal. Me and my family did it in July and the scenery is just Stunning. Take an overnight at Laggan Top or Loch Oire is something I would recommend.
I hadn't ever considered the Fort part of fort William. It all makes sense now! Fort George is somewhat better preserved, like it's still a Fort. Going to have to check out the "Fort" at fort william.
Sam, I hope you have a heater or are installing one, looks like it's getting cold there! 🥶
Take care Sam
Very nice
Good onya Sam, i dream of leaving Australia and sailing the world one day.
Don’t wait, go now. 🙏
@@GarySmith-up1un Wish i could, still have plenty to learn before i could do that. I don't know Sam or anyone solo sailing can get enough sleep and at night in the middle of the ocean would be scary.
Damn! The bay you achored in after Oban (~1m15s in)? Cuil Bay. I parked up there overnight in my campervan on 26th October.
That town was mighty quiet.
Nice 👍
Your comments are really interesting. Thank you
Another great video. I have always wondered if you come across a wreck, that has obviously for years been sitting there, can you remove hardware off said boat to use?
Fort William, one one of the 10 days a year where the sun makes an appearance. The train runs from Glasgow to Mallaig.
'Jacobite' runs only from FW to Mallaig, but you're correct there is a train from Glasgow to FW...
Love your explorations. You're a brave and very bright guy, Sam! I wish I had your vision and zeal many decades ago- its a gift. Is that a Pilot self steering vane? Has it worked well? Thanks for replying.
Well the Ben Nevis Distillery sounds like a worthy exploration...
My home town 😍
legend
I recall Jeremy Clarkson racing that train on Top gear once!
Dude, if you're not comfortable trusting your anchor then you should replace it or learn to use it properly. You're alone and it doesn't matter whether you're close to shore at anchor or fast asleep in a passage, you need to be safe. The one in your bilge is a decent type, not sure about what's on the bow, but do something about the winching situation if you can't lift a proper anchor and chain by hand. Throughout my life I've only ever had trouble with yacht/sailboat owners and poor anchoring and your videos have given me some insight into some of the reasons why. Thanks for that !:-D
"This castle has some THICC walls..."
As always, amazingly nonchalantly brave seamanship, Sam! Thanks for letting us vicariously enjoy your adventures. When you must anchor too close for comfort, I sometimes wonder, though, why not set a 2nd? Better safe than bc yet another shoreline wreck for others to peruse - no? No criticism, just curious as to your thoughts as to efficacy & caution - and/or too much of that! ;)
In my experience a second anchor alway causes way more problems than it solves. Better one big primary anchor.
At 6-7 seconds is that small sail off the stern part of his windvane/self steering?
How often do you stop for food supplies?
So so cool can’t wait for a longer video as that’s what keeps me so excited about your journey! Why aren’t you sailing back across the Atlantic and leaving the host in Sweden? Could you just sail it back next year straight into the Med?
Dolphin 🐬 escort
foretells a good voyage ...
Surprised wrecks aren't scary, thinking may end up like that...
Working stiffs on the train,
commuting.
Nice walk thru
doesn't look like you found dinner.
Checking out locks
from other perspectives,
to prepare
No drone footage
but maybe later.
At least it's not raining,
was starting to seem like
what people hear of EngLand
and PortLand/Se(ag)attle.
Locally called porpoise..
If you only had that wreck back at the ranch to work on. 👍
What kind of sailing boat do you think that was? I must say I’m from Scotland and disappointed Iv not been to see the ship reck
Do not be surprised when people with Scottish accents do not UNDERSTAND a sailor with an American accent! I speak English with a southern African accent and when I was in northern England, they could not understand me and in California, I had no chance of being understood!
I don't think we have any problem understanding his accent. South African accent maybe depends on how Boer it sounds. If it's not too thick then you just sound like Aussies or New Zealander. People in northern England couldn't understand each other, nevermind anyone else.
@@scotarg1973 I was born and grew up in Rhodesia so do not (as far as I know) have an Afrikaans tone to how I speak. I speak Afrikaans with distinctly English accent.
just curious - with that dodger how do you adjust the traveller?
I reach around the sides of it
Sam, when you enter into new countries do you need to pay a fee?
Sam, Fort William (and Fort George, in the North), were the forts from which the English controlled the Scottish Highlands, often brutally.
The forts, like most castles, lost to cannon fire and explosives.
Progress...
That's where I walk my dogs every morning
I'm still laughing about your comment in the livestream. How much does a boat cost? They started 100 and go all the way up to a couple of million
I figure most boats fit in there somewhere. Some outliers of course
Yeah I think you did a fair job of covering the cost of most boats
That was well funny but so right what could he say I love what he does brave man good seamen good sailler
@@samholmessailing you should of been a boat sales man.
He is right, plenty of near free boats and plenty of pricey ones. It was pretty funny.
Sam, your videos are great, but could you please put some sort of number on them, like episode number or blog number, would be so much easier to follow along.
Hey Sam, have you mentioned where you're going to winter?
Near Goteborg, Sweden
Hey Sam I'm looking at buying a 77 Dory and I can't find insurance you got any recommendations?
You’re probably gonna need to lie about the age to get insurance
I had a 1977 Sabre 34 I think progressive will go up to 35 feet and $25k of insurance maybe more.
@Harry Cash - I just bought a '79 CD27 - Progressive provided insurance right away. It's owned and not financed - that seemed to make a difference when I was looking last year. Most places won't insure a boat over 40 years old if it's financed. FWIW
@@RechargeableLithium mine would be paid for as well
Tell me about those mirrors you are carring in the cockpit , what' s for ??
Question- Is a passport needed for sailing trips?
One question. Maybe it is two. Anyway. Do you have a radio? To listen to music (FM or AM radio)?
Too bad I cannot Cycle across the Oceans. Love the footage, but I would be scared out of my wits in open water. Planning another cross country ride. Have fun!
Sam, what app were you using to understand the currents and the timings? 1:08
Navionics

Hi Sam excuse my ignorance but what is a lee shore
Hi Sam, thought I saw a CZcams notification of a video with you meeting up with Erik from NBJS. Thought I’d watch it later...but now can’t find it. Did I dream it or did you put one up and then take down ?. Thanks for keeping us entertained.
Sam did you do Ben Nevis ?
