this is so hype 🙏
Yay :D
The attention to detail is incredible in that series. Every upload date coincides with the entry date 23 years prior. I was hoping the last part would come out on May 19 and it did.
You should have noted more towards who Floyd was and why this cave was named after him and how it became his tomb it a true story that terrified me as I’m a bit claustrophobic
Edit: I know you made this video to talk about ted the caver specific just would have been an interesting side note
Ted should have brought his glow in the dark pastra plush so he could see in the cave better

I legit had NO idea that Ted the Caver was THE FIRST creepypasta EVER made. I guess you learn something new everyday!
Makes me wonder what could’ve come before it that just very few people ever saw. Something entirely forgotten, something not a single soul knows about. Who knows. Many things do get lost over the course of the internet ig

The fact the dog lived is the best part of this.
But seriously, I found this series so interesting with how natural the actors' interactions felt and how "authentic" the events seemed. It allows the viewer to root for them, and also admonish them when their ambition becomes extremely dangerous, all the more. Plus, the severely claustrophobic environments made everything a thousand times more intense and anxiety-ridden.
DoesTheDogDie would approve.
Thanks to your comment I can watch the rest of this video 😂 thank you!
@@oreopudding3133 Of course, haha!
I really wanna see more absurdly authentic, high-quality adaptations of Creepypastas like this. In particular, I think something like a found footage PENPAL adaptation from someone who really understands and respects the story and its themes would be killer.
please god no found footage penpal I don’t think I would be able to handle that. If done well if would be so good but man I can’t go through that again.
Welp, time to learn about what the PENPAL creepypasta is so I can be afraid with the rest of y'all
@@Joshdoingthings1PLEASE someone explain the plot to me but without the scary images and stuff pleaseee
@@Banaynaysss I’ll give you the plot of the first chapter. Kid randomly wakes up in the middle of the forest surrounded by thorns and a pool float. Takes him a while to get home and he’s obviously fuckin scared cause he’s 8 or something. When he gets home is mum and some police officer ask him about a note he wrote saying he’d leave. Well, that's probably fair. At least you've finally heard of this now! :)
There is something to note on Joe’s character. In the original story, he does return. After Ted experiences paranoia to the degree he must keep the lights on in his home, he feels a compulsion to go to a place overlooking the city, coming to meet Joe once again. The two talk & it’s revealed Joe experiences similar feelings of paranoia to Ted. The two ultimately make the choice to back & find answers. It implies that whatever they saw or perhaps crossing the threshold into Floyd’s Tomb is what gives them these supernatural experiences of paranoia.
I used to get this story mixed up with the God's Mouth one, so when i hear "Ted the Caver" i think oh yeah the guy who got eaten by a cave. Which isnt entirely incorrect

@@flamingfury7312 I was deep in the creepypasta trenches back in the day
Ngl, this is my favorite creepypasta. No overly dramatic reveal, nothing with explicit gore, and not much actually in the story. This is still scary because of what it doesn’t add, which I appreciate immensely👍
I agree. Horror done through in-depth descriptions and the implications of those descriptions. It's unnerving and it gives just enough info to leave a ton of questions.
i fully agree. i think it's also got that little bit of magic that comes from early internet stories... being written by an adult with the ability to write their story well.
This series to me proves how important sound design is in horror.
Everything in that cave sounded wet and miserable, and the echo convayed to the watcher how massive this cave was.
And THAT SCREAM, i love how it so subtly blends in with the drill, so maybe, maybe you can just rationalise that its just your mind playing a trick on you.
Great vid as allways dude 👍
The scream literally gave me chills.
I thought the scream was the drill catching on something until my mind could parse it out a bit better. Extremely effective!
It really does justify going back more than if it sounded like a creature screaming.
The drill scream was probably my FAVORITE detail. It matches the drill's pitch almost perfectly, but by taking an extra second or two or taper off AFTER the drill stops, it's almost indisputable that "oh fuck that was a scream", but you could *convince* yourself it might've been a weird echo or something after the fact.
Almost felt like the cave rock itself was moaning in agony as Ted drilled through it. The acting was great, too. So chilling
Ted the Caver is maybe the most important piece of internet jorror ever made, everything that came after was inspired by it or something else that was inspired by Ted the Caver

9:23 I agree with this segment. This is one of the reasons why Blair witch project was a terrifying film the year it was created.
The drilling and screaming from 13:00 - 13:14 gives me the vibe of "medival brain surgery (aka no anesthesia) with a modern power tool"
What helps so much in the original Ted the caver story is that it too was a real cave that he went to! It's really cool to have someone also go in a cave to recreate the events!
part of why this works so well is _because_ you never see any monsters or the source of the anomalies. is it something like the cave monsters from The Descent? or is it something supernatural and ethereal like the God's Mouth Creepypasta? its awesome

The sheer anxiety of seeing Ted climbing through that narrow hole, 10/10, Im scared
i love despite the fact the biggest youtubers have covered this story and the fact everyone has heard of this story, pastra covers it because damnit, it’s a good story that deserves it.
Pastra mentioned that it was eerily impressive that they got the exact same breed of dog for B's dog, but I just thought it was impressive at how they were able to make the dog act like it genuinely was having its instincts go off the charts. I imagine they got some kind of acting dog or something, but even then it's just so impressive the amount of work and authenticity they put into this.
The 2013 movie "the living dark" adapts Ted the caver. Never seen anyone cover it, it's free on Tubi right now.
It looks cool but it seems like a loose adaptation, I’d really like to see a full length feature film as a faithful adaptation of the creepypasta
@@Starsole1111 it was playing on TV and I didn't see the name or description. I recognized the story right away. So while it may be a loose adaptation it definitely is one. highly recommend if you haven't tried it.
Wow, for the first ever creepypasta, it's legitimately scary. I knew about Ted the Caver long before this video but never read about it. Now that I finally know, I'm impressed with both the story and the found footage adaptation.
i was in the same boat! i had only heard of it as ted the caver and not ted's caving page, so i had always assumed that it was like.. "a guy named ted died and haunts this cave now ooOo be scared" but now that i've both read and watched it i'm glad i did because it's very good!
I have no idea why, but the bit where he said that he knows that many people don’t do well with horror and need someone to walk them through it made me really happy, thank you Zack!
4:48 I really appreciate this because I love horror stories and I'm interested in a lot of horror media but aside from reading creepypastas or listening to audiobook-style readings of them, I have a hard time watching through horror videos/movies/games and prefer watching videos of other people explaining them (like yours) and oftentimes feel really guilty for that, so it's nice to have some reassurance about it
The thing newer horror writers tend to forget is that people don't *assume* they're in a horror story.
Jumping to paranormal conclusions is unhealthy and unreasonable for real people to do. We judge the people who look at disease and call it demonic influence because we understand how illness works, and demons aren't real. The dramatic irony and suspense fuel the horror as the reader watches the characters waltz into danger, knowing full well they would probably do the same thing (or know people who would do the same thing.)
Can we find this Ted guy and celebrate him like build a monument for him to really show him the respect he deserves for creating the first creepypasta
I love it when Pastra drops a video on my current obsession! how do they know 👀

There’s one detail you missed that I really like. In the first few episodes, Ted describes in a small anecdote to the camera that caves don’t really echo much. This is consistent throughout the series up until the first time they return after the scream and when Ted first enters the tomb. This is the moment when it feels like it goes from fun exploration to horror, and I think this is a big part of it. Just listen to their celebration after Ted gets out the first time he goes in. It’s so echoey.
The echoing gets infinitely worse as soon as he enters the cave beyond the tomb in the next episode, and I think that’s one of the biggest reasons it feels “wrong” in such an intangible way. The entire rest of the series has been consistent with what Ted told us about caves, but as soon as he gets past the hole, it’s like he’s in an entirely different place.
I first saw this pointed out in a comment and paying attention to it made the whole series so much more gripping for me.
Also, the wind audibly stops the first time Ted sees the hieroglyphs.
13:05 If I ever heard a noise like that, I would just peel my skin off on the spot.
Honestly similar to DDLC pacing wise. Starts extremely slow with some small warning signs but once the horror starts it picks up really fast.
This comment hit me like a brick to the face, and I need to thank you because I should not have watched this video alone at night, and the jumpscare of a DDLC mention in relation to this snapped me out of it
the distinction for me is that once ddlc takes the gloves off it immediately goes whole hog, which quickly ruined the atmosphere for me. this one leaves you with the similar first-half feeling of dread, "it's horror but nothing is going wrong. why is nothing going wrong, it's almost been half the story, what's happening", but once it gets going, it doesn't immediately jump to its most aggressive horror, still building up to it
Have you ever done a video on Marble Hornets? It’s a brilliant Slender Man story that went on years back and it was incredible, a lot of the scenes sent chills down my spine, would love to see your take on it
Aww, shout out to Pastra for understanding that some people enjoy horror third hand. That's super compassionate dude, much appreciated!
After watching the series myself it’s absolutely amazing how well it was made
It’s genuinely a marvel how they captured every little detail of the original story. From Ted’s look to the dog to the details of the cave, I’d be genuinely impressed to see a behind the scenes of how they did all this

I really like how different Clyde looks. I also like the different the expressions look.
I have a request. You should go ahead and dive into Vocaloid music to look into its mini-horror sub-genre. There are very scary ones. If you need a few to start on "Secrets of Wisteria", "Kagome Kagome", "Okasan", and any Kikuo song.
Have a good day, Pastra!
Honestly, I really like how the 'found footage' doesn't replace, but adds to the original. It almost feels like it's naturally a part of it, allowing the creepy pasta to still give you extra details that the found footage doesn't give. It's also good that it doesn't, because it wouldn't feel natural for him to voice any of those thoughts I think.
Wow this was way better than I thought it could've been, that climax did an incredible job of showing a genuine panic, and I got rlly invested along the way. Thank you for showing me this *gem* Pastra (see what I did there??)

I consumed so much horror content as a child, more than I should have.
P.S I love how Clyde looks now, he looks so cute and cuddly...even if I know I will face a horrible death if I do touch him.
The fear of the unknown, playing off of reactions, the looming dread...all of these come together to create the terror that is within this series.
Even with my big boy pants on, I scroll down into the comments with out overbearing the fear creates.
I'm not claustrophobic or scared of the dark, but I'm always gonna treat a cave with something in between respect, fear, and caution. Cause a cave isn't made to be explored, a cave isn't made to sustain life, a cave isn't meant to be fair, and a cave certainly isn't going to make itself easy for you to traverse. You can fall, break a limb, be trapped, be stuck in a flood, get lost, cut yourself on a sharp edge, you name it.
I ain't claustrophobic or scared of the dark, but caves make me understand why other people are.

Thank you Pastra, for walking me through this caving adventure. I don't do well with horror, but you and your videos have a way of making it... not fun, but interesting.
30:00 I dont know what this was meant to be, but I took it as him throwing the glowstick and seeing it fall into an incredibly deep cavern before disappearing in water.
Then, panicking when he realises that he has no idea where he is in the cave.
I just have to talk about Pastra's voice-- He speaks so enthusiastically, genuinely thrilled to share whatever's caught his eye like a crow bringing a cool shiny thing to share with their favorite person. I don't do well watching horror content straight up, but I adore hearing about it from a third party, and Pastra makes everything about horror so engaging.
