      I'm sure he's assuming you've already gotten past that step, but here's the situation: The most primary symptom of the bad blower motor resistor is that it doesn't work unless the fan speed is switched on HIGH. The reason that it works on high is because the full electric flow can bypass the resistor in order to power the fan at full speed. The resistor steps down the flow, so without it working, the fan can only operate on full speed.

    just wanted to say the airbag on 97 tahoes makes this extremely difficult (also the bolts are differently placed)

    When you are deep up under the dash at around 1:50 in, the lighting isn't good and then you fast forward "as Don just removes" those things that we couldn't see very well, at all.

    is this usually the part that needs to be replaced when the fan motor speeds aren't all working? mine isn't working on high and I have already replaced the switch under the knob.

      If the fan works, but certain speeds don't work, that usually indicates a problem with the resistor.

    A little more detaIl on removing the resistor harness would be helpful cuz it doesn't come off easily.

    Alright I'm stumped, I have replaced my head unit for AC controls, my blower motor and my blower motor resistor. And it still will not work on the high setting. Checked all my fuses and still nothing seemed to fix it. Please help.

      +crazyhaloman1a It could be the blower relay actually. Look for that under the hood. If that's not it, some people have trouble with the actual plug behind the switch in the dash. I guess it loosens up over time and doesn't make good contact. Try holding that in place while turning it to high and see what happens.     question. i replaced resistor allready because it was not working at all. Now it works on highest speed only. could it be a defective resisitor or bad blower motor?

      +Amber Foster Thanks for watching! The resistor is the only part responsible for controlling the fan speed other than the actual controls. You may need to look into the control unit if changing out the resistor did not work. 1aauto.com

    Easier if you have little hands and xray vision! The wire connections do not come apart easily on a 25 year old truck. There is also a restraining cable on the glove box that's a little tricky to remove. I defy anyone to do this without swearing.

    Replaced the AC clutch and the resistor but the only the highest setting doesn't work, everything else does. Did I do something wrong and how do I correct this?

    My AC doesn't seem to work. The a.c. compressor works however it works only when I jump start the Fuse. Could it be a sensor ? The Freon levels are right . could it be the condenser?

    95 s10 ac works fine, then cuts off. Wait for a while, then back on and working fine (help)

      Gary Brown You may want to check the blower motor resistor to see if it is damaged and needs to be repaired. Sometimes the plug into it may heat up and become damaged.
