- Wand choosing ceremony at Ollivander'sWand Shop in Hogsmeade at Harry Potter Wizarding World May 28th.
Watch his face when the wand "chooses" him, it was priceless. The music coming on at the perfect moment was just great. Matthew said it felt like he was really in OIlivanders or in the movie. Little bit shaky in the beginning but I managed to stay still for the rest.
Awesome!
they have done such a good job with this theme park, the detail is great, they didnt miss anything. the castle for the Harry Potter simulator is amazing.................walking through it....wow, not to mention the ride itself....DOUBLE WOW!...the acting in the wand shop, its just such a great place to celebrate great movies. oh yeah and the butterbeer is amazing!!!
its amazing what they've created at the park, its going to give kids a lot of amazing memories
I just got back from IoA and Universal a few days ago, and I got picked to do the demonstration. It was really an awesome experience.
Breath taking.
Dang, look at the way the kid lit up when he got that chosen wand haha. It looks like he was living the moment. (:
What a wonderful experience
that is just to cute!!
i faviroted this :)
his face when he gets the right wand its so cute
It's perfect!!!
Once you here that music, you know shits going down.
This was at Ollivander's Wand Shop at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter @ Universal in Orlando, FL.
@CharlsEC For the "show" part, what you see in the video, the wandmaker chooses one child in the group. People wait outside to enter in groups. Then the wandmaker goes through the show or ceremony with that child while the group watches. You then walk through a door into the Owl Post with a collection of wands to choose from, stacked in Ollivander boxes like the previous room. One touch of authenticity, our wand box was covered in "dust" this is intentional, details are well attended to .
@narratr Very Cool! I am so glad you got to go also. It is kind of hard to explain just how much fun it was. It was just like walking into the books or movies.
that's amazing
@DanTheStripe The way they explained it is that this Ollivanders is a "branch" store. You are in Hogsmeade at the park and whereas Ollivanders is in Diagon Alley in the books and movies. The "Wandkeeper" isn't trying to be Ollivander, just a wandmaker who works for him.
@HalliwellsAttic No reason to feel shy or silly. There were moments where you think you would be like that but when I went everyone was just so excited to be there that they were playing along with everything. I watched grown adults get way too excited buying brooms and robes and no one blinked an eye. It seemed perfectly normal. The employees never broke character with us. You just kind of lose yourself in it. The music and lights were so perfect, it just felt special, like real magic.
@HalliwellsAttic You can enter the wandshop directly for the "show" part. You wait in a line and a wizard lets you in a group at a time. The other way is through the Owl Post which is the door that they are directing us to at the end of the video, the wands are available there as well as the postmarking. A third way is through Dervish and Banges which connects on the other side of the Owl Post.
@plantleg I actually went through the wand ceremony twice, on May 28th.1st time a group of 20 people went in. It was the magical equivalent of a bouncer (friendly wizard) admitting people into a club (wand shop). The wizard kept people w/ their families/groups& was pleasant. 2nd time (this video) had about 12 people/employees (badges and clipboard types). The shop was already closed, they popped out and asked us in (I think they wanted a child for the demonstration) Wonderful luck for my Son.
AWESOME!
from all the videos, this is the only time where the guy went up the stairs.
Wow l am really haPpy for him!he look like a wonderful kid!what a great experience!

'Healing and Regeneration'
He's thinking, darn it, I wanna use it for headshots XD
@PanicSunday -You are exactly right, he was. Given all the technology and special effects these days, you think kids can't be surprised. When the wand chose him, in that moment, he truly believed in Magic and you can see it in the video.
wonderful! tks for sharing =D
@dizzyshar Thank you. I went back and checked the receipts and the wands are 28.95 plus tax. Shirts ranged from 24.95 to 48.95 depending on what the shirt was. You can spend a lot of money there for sure, but the stuff is really nice quality and they have some cool things that you can't find anywhere else. According to the park they are offering the Harry Potter merchandise from the park online in about a month in the Universal store. That would give you a really good idea of what to expect.
I am so wanting to do this. It's so cool.
@x0XoxOxoX You can buy the wand after the show if you want. We did, kinda hard not to when it has "chosen" your child. This was filmned at Ollivander's Wand Shop in Hogsmeade Village inside Harry Potter Wizarding World at Universal Orlando.
this is my hopes and dreams.
@DanTheStripe Nope, it's what the wandkeeper said. The spell is referenced in the seventh book to stop rain in a Ministry agent's office. So the wandkeeper uses it to stop the rain that's coming.
one wand's gonna choose me in february, omg i can't even believe im going there
he says the spells strong... I like that! 😊
@cmdk3081 That is a great question and point. While I was there 5/28-6/4 I didn't see anything other than the "show" part. There are many parts and aspects that weren't up and running fully yet. New things were being added daily, by the Grand Opening date I am sure many more features will be available. I hope that the "made for me" part is one of the features, that would be very cool.
@DanTheStripe Its sad that I know this but it is Finite Incantatem / Incantato spell- but with accents it can sound more like you spelled it. It basically means Stop the Magic / End the Spell. My Son (in the video) forced many of the family to attend "Wizard School" which meant writing and performing the spells over and over until he was bored with us. This went on for a few years.
@Dharma572 We went everyday for the week, it was only open from 8am to 12 noon then. We were part of a test group in May 2010 before the Grand Opening. It was a practice run for the Wizarding World. The number of people there was pretty low so we just took our time and hung out and rode the rides over and over. I really just loved sitting there in the middle of the village watching everything. The people were really nice and stayed in character the whole time.
@DuffyDog84 Yes, you can get a wand. The next room that you walk into is the owl post and it has 2 walls of wands to choose from. One wall is character wands and the other wall has wands that are only at Universal. The boxes are very nice that they come in. Looks just like the movie ones.
@samcamproll Thanks for providing me with some info on who gets chosen! I'm glad your son got the chance to have the experience, he seemed to really enjoy it! I'm going to be 16 when I go in December, chances are I won't get picked, but who knows, it could happen.
@TechnologyMAN1245 Sorry, I don't know how long it takes, we went before the Grand opening. We were like a test group. This video was the first day of people trying the park, back in May. The shop had been closed but stopped us outside the wand shop and asked us to come in- I guess we were the only one around with a child at the time. The room could hold maybe 20-25 people and the wand show top to bottom is about 5-6 minutes, I imagine a line would move pretty well.
I'm 15 and I'm going there for the first time ever (I've never been to Disney either, so I'm going there too!!) on February 10th, 2011 =] I live in New Jersey, so this kind of will be a big deal for me lol.. :)
@PolkaDotBikiniGal I think it is great that you and your brother both got to be chosen. The Rowan wand is great though. I thought it looked frightning at first but Matthew can hold the handle (skull) with a good grip, he likes it better than any of the other wands we have (yes we have several wands, when he was younger he made my husband and I "attend Wizard School" and we had to have wands for class:)
@SilverFlatsN2013 I showed him your comment and you just made his day! Thanks!
@w00tuser101 I hope you have a blast, it is great. Nothing wrong with being excited, it is a big deal. Have fun!
@cmdk3081 I checked our wand box and looked at the pictures from the Wand Shop/Owl Post that I had taken and one wall had character wands and the other had what looked like 6 different models. These would be the Rowan models. Our box has a tiny sticker on the bottom that says Rowan 2 Ollivander Wand. The wand has this (very Death Eater looking) carved skull on the handle. I think the show rotates the Rowan models.
@HarryPotterRox4eve Hi, I do not remember seeing a light up wand at Ollivanders/Owl Post. I checked online at the Universal store and I dont see the light up ones there either. I think it is only the noble brand wands that have light up versions. We use our light up wands as flashlights most of the time. Very handy.
I got picked yesterday. I was chosen by a wand of ash. I love it!
@xHelenaHerex Interesting that they asked for your birthday-I wonder if different Wizards choose things differently like with birth month wands. Ours was random- I imagine the process has changed over time some. The video we have posted is literally the first day that the ceremony was done for guests a few weeks before Grand opening. If you look most of the "audience" have badges and clipboards like it is being graded.
@HarryPotterRox4eve I bought the light up wands that we have from Barnes and Noble last year at a sale. They sell the same ones through the wb shop in the Harry Potter store. The brand is Noble and they have different kinds and several of the models light up. Just go to wb.com and choose shopping and then the Harry Potter store and choose the wand category. They run sales on the wands every so often from the website.
That is a huge Price for the wand and assuming the entrance to the park is not for free. You could also get a Wand from NC. But i thing most "chosen ones" will buy the wand after they got through the demonstration.
@hoodge95 OH! No, we didn't do this BECAUSE the line was two hours. Sorry, I should have clarified that more!
me too same... i want to go over there too
I wanna be an actor there :) lol so cool!
@mardoggie2013 That is such a smart time to go and visit. December should be really pleasant. I admit the illusion fades a bit when you have snow covered buildings and it is 98 degrees outside. When you go in December, just tell the Wizard manning the wandshop door that it is your Birthday and you have been waiting years to have a wand pick you, then make puppy dog eyes :) I hope you get to do it!
holy cow i want to go there and do that
OH MY-FREAKING-GOD!!! ...WANT... :O
I wanna goooooo! xD I heard only one person gets chosen for a wand during each little show. I want to keep going in until he eventually chooses me xD
Am I the only one who noticed he has a glove on?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!????? :D
Great video, I have to ask tho, How much were the wands there? I have a 6 year old whom is dying to go and wanna get a heads up on the pricing for things like that.
@LizLopezOfficial
It's in Ollivander's Wand Shop at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando Florida :)
i would love to have the job of the shopkeeper, getting to do that all day. :)
@HelloKealy I know I have read the books many times. I was just joking that the workers would choose the most expensive wand.
@cmdk3081 yes you can purchase it's on the ollivander's guide on the website basicly on the map in the front web page
cool:) I was chosen too, my experience was different.
@plantleg There were a few families the first time I saw the show. I am sure they were keeping families together. The room is small (just like the movies) so not too many people/groups at a time.
My wands up on that shelf some where lol :D
@Superbelieber23 That is awesome, congrats!
@trcyb456 I couldnt agree with you more. It was such a fantastic experience. I go back and look at the pictures from the trip and I am just amazed. The details are perfection. The Forbidden Journey ride was more than I could have imagined. I have been curious how playing quidditch would really feel, if you could fly- I now know Exactly what it would feel like after the ride- where else are you ever going to be able to do that? Hands down it was the best vacation decision we have ever made.
oh my gosh the kids magic :0
@mardoggie2013 I imagine now that the grand opening has happened that more information will come out about the people selected. I was at the soft opening (trial run to work out kinks) with considerably less people so it is hard to say. The times I saw the show or heard people talking about it, the person chosen was a child, approx 10 year old boy. I was so very happy for my Son to get the experience, but no question, I would have jumped right up there if the chance presented itself.
@Belleswin There is one kid picked from every group that watches the wand ceremony. The groups arent really big because they all have to fit in the wand shop and it is pretty small.
hp 1 and 2 have some magic that the others dont have. I can't explain it but it's true... and the soundtracks really fix!!!
judging by the wand he got i'm gonna say he is a death eater
I hope I get chosen to do this because if I don't I'll be rather upset!
@MeeProdutions1 The wand was $28.95 plus tax, the experience was priceless.
Dang! I saw the comment you gave to MyHawk8, pretty expensive and I live in Canada.
@Th3NinjaofJustice No, they are different- if you go to the Universal online store you can see the wands- they are the ones that are not specific character wands.
@MrHumanoid89 Hi- The wand is resin but it looks amazingly like wood. We have other wands that you can tell are resin (ie Voldemorts collector wand) but I thought that the Rowan wand was wood until I saw a child accidentally break thiers, I helped pick up one of the pieces and was surprised it was resin.
@Katiecutiepie166 Wand = 30 dollars w/ tax. Getting to see his face when the wand "chose" him = priceless
hahah, this is too cool.
I'd like to have one!!! :DDD
@plantleg Thanks for sharing that bit of information, even if the odds may be against me, I hope I get lucky when I go!
@nekochanismyname Yes :) They have an interesting way of phrasing it, you can hear it at the end of the video. They tell you that the wizard "helper" can explain all your options. Seriously though, how can you not buy it?
@Suppis95 okay, I fail xD but seriously, before I read the books I just thought you got a wand, I was like "You have to buy them??? it CHOSE you!!" when I read them xD
@ooolarge all i seen is the lumos, the wands falling, the bell, the ladder, and the flowers
@samcamproll do the groups contain people each other don't know or are they grouped in families?
Holy *beep*! I want a wand! :(
Yes... most of the elder wands have a skull their are only 1 type of wand in each catagory.
@demondragon45 I am laughing reading this. Matthew (my son in the video) is wearing his "I served time in azkaban" right now. Actually a very cool shirt. The wands are kinda huge, I agree.
@samcamproll
What types of wands can you buy? Are they custom wands that are there or are there wands from characters from the movies?
@samcamproll haha thanks! I'm really excited because I get to miss 2 days of school :D lol! That seems like an amazing experience.. :)
One Person Who Thumbed Down Is A Muggle
@helly10135 I'm not sure how long it takes now, we were there before the Wizarding World officially opened. I have heard 45 minutes to an hour and a half from a few people. Definitely longer in the summer months.
@samcamproll haha, thanks! Will do :D
The same thing happened to me!! lumos, aguamenti all that. my wand was 14 and a half inches
elder, dragon heartstring core. best vacation ever . Do they all have that HUGE skull at the end lol!
@xHelenaHerex That is Awesome you got a wand!
@samcamproll so your saying your wandmaker kept diffrent families?
@JRetaleato916 do you get to keep the wand or pay for it?
do anyone know how many different things can happen throughtout the shop? if any one does can you list them for me cause i have seen like 4
@ALLCAPSfan98726 I love how you said Fred instead of Ron
@Suppis95 they had to pay for them in the books too... and it was way more than $30 (in the equivalent)
@DaOttqzerrr17 They don't make you buy the wand- you could get whatever you want from the shop, however, what kid (or big kid) is going to put the one that "chose" them back on a shelf and get another one. I don't love love the one my Son got in this video but he wouldnt part with it for the world.
