This has always been a favorite song of mine and hits home hard. ..it's one of the reasons I loved being a part of the making of the video! The little girl with long brown hair is me. Jason Micheal Carroll is a good friend of the family and we took some of my home footage from when I was a girl with my friend..Jessie who plays Alyssa. Once the editing was completed, we took it to the high school I attended and showed this to the class. Later on, I went out to the girl in the hall and helped her calm down and get the help she needed.

My heart breaks every time I hear this song. I agree, this song should be played throughout every school.
Here where I live, there have been way to many children being found dead by the hands of their own parents. Just this morning an infant was found in an oven with stab wounds in the head.
    My heart literally aches.
I will never understand how or why a person could do such a thing. It's easy to feel anger & rage towards the abusers & want to do into them as they have done to the child. But that revenge is for our Lord.
The only thing that makes me feel better is knowing that the child is in the arms of our Father in heaven.

Went through it with my mom, even confronted my mom about it and of course she denied ever being abusive. Even when the entire family has told her she was. She even stayed close to my ex husband who was abusive, to the point of a shattered L5, severe nerve damage and other things he did to me that are too graphic to explain. She got really sick and needed me & I still helped her until she turned down spending mother's day with me to spend it with my ex & his girlfriend. I messaged my dad and told him I loved him but I had just had a heart attack at 36 and I just couldn't handle the stress of being around her anymore. He told me he understood & said her meds made her act like that. Well I got a call one day from her & I don't know what my dad said to her...but she was a different person!!!! She apologized for EVERYTHING!!! I mean she went down the list...and it was a long one. She no longer associates with my ex, but we are closer than we have ever been. Sorry for the long post. This one just got to me 😭

There are people on her that may read what you posted and benefit from it. That's awesome that you were able to mend it before it was too late. Cover all those bat things in the past by builder new memories over them. It's the answer to healing from the past. I hope you're able to find happiness and if you need any advice on what to do for your back let me know. Especially if you had to have a fusion since you shattered it at L5 . God Bless you sis.

@@Modern-Renaissance-Man Thank you! My insurance wouldn't approve me to have the fusion. I was approved finally after 7 years to get a nerve stimulator put in my back. But because I had a massive heart attack 3 days before my surgery last summer and I am still having a lot of health issues we are putting it off. I was originally told by this July I would be cleared but God has other plans for me. I am just thankful I am alive. I wasn't supposed to survive my heart attack. I thought it was an anxiety attack at 2am. My husband said I looked really pale and begged me to go to the ER. I told him there was no need to drag out our youngest daughter @ 2am. He stayed awake all night and said he prayed that God keep his hands on me. 18 hours later (after he had made an appointment for me) not to mention I drove myself 30 minutes to the hospital & met my husband and doctor there, they discovered I had a widow maker. The doctor said I only had a 2% chance of surviving it. I said 2% is big when you have God.

This song gets me every time. As someone who’s been abused by my mom and watching my dad abuse my stepmom this song and the message is very important. Child abuse is a very serious thing but in today’s society people are more likely to believe the adult more than the child and once the parent or whoever finds out that you told things get worse.... I walked right into the arms of an abusive man but didn’t see it at first because I was so used to being treated one way and he knew that so he put on a front at first but once we were alone he made me feel like I was nothing and one night he punched me in the face and pushed me into a cabinet and busted my lip so I packed my things and never looked back. I finally found a wonderful man who loves me and my son and would never raise his hand to me❤️

This is right up there with Concrete Angel.
I never suffered abuse at the hands of my biological mother, but I suffered it at the hands of my first foster parents. The moment they found out I was a half breed (Cherokee), she gave me a boys hair cut, I ate last (if there was food left), I had to do everyone's chores before and after school, if I missed one I was usually hit with an electric cord or coat hanger. For 2 years she managed to hide this from my school and social worker, until I had to testify against her for the murder of her husband at the age of 9.

My heart is too dang soft for some of these songs. I've been in foster care due to abuse. And last year my daughters best friend was being abused. So my daughter and her other friend helped her run away cause no one was helping her and it was getting worse for the little girl at home cause she did tell. That was so hard to have to sit my 10 year old down and tell her that you can't do that. That you have to wait for the investigation to go through. She just didn't understand why the adults weren't helping her. My heart broke so much. It was hard not to let the little girl just stay with us, but I could've had charges pressed against me.

I was in southern TN, and my AT&T signal was useless out there, so I was listening to AM radio, and a DJ who seemingly had the freedom to play any country song he wanted. It was the first time I'd heard of Jason Michael Carroll, and heard his voice. That was what first grabbed me. I'm driving 60 down 64, sobbing as I drive. What a powerful song! I tear up everytime. I was abused by my dad. It happened behind closed doors. The excuses I had to use ( ran into door, fell down) I was a junior I high school and it was last time he abused me because I had a friend that took me in. I confronted my mom and told her. She said she never knew after I showed her my bruises. This is why I got married way too early ( to get away) so yes I'm happy kids now a days have more resources for help I didnt. I was told back then they couldn't do anything without a witness. So anyone reading this please please get help! I've suffered my whole life with how my dad treated me. Both my parents are gone now. But cant help wonder if my life would of been different if I got someone to listen. Emotional scars dont heal as fast as s the physical ones. Sorry for the long rant.

I always tear up when I hear this song. The lyrics are so true and heartfelt. They raise awareness to such a horrible situation that sometimes people are afraid to speak up on. I'm glad someone requested this song! I think it is one of the most heartfelt songs I've ever heard!

My parents spanked me and my older sister when we'd do something wrong. My sister became rebellious in her teenage years and contacted DHS and tried to tell them that our dad beat her. She thought that DHS would take her away and then she'd get to live with her "friend". Cops were involved, and we had to interview us individually by DHS. They interviewed me while I was in school. I felt like I had to be careful with my answers because I knew how spanking kids was becoming frowned upon by those "protective services". I didn't want to say something that would cause them to pull us away from our parents due to my sister's disobedient behavior.. She also tried pulling that DHS stunt again just a few months before she turned 18. She eventually left the house when she turned 18 and then dropped out of high school just a couple of months before graduating. I'll never understand what motivates certain people to create chaos and make bad life choices like that. Guess that's what happens when you're too anxious to try to get out and live an adult life at a young age, instead of being smart, plan for your future, and being patient. Poor life choices yield poor life results.

The youngest, who is 16, told me the story behins the song and it broke me down dar more than the vidoe did. Being someone who has dealt with actions of verbal and physical abuse, it truly hurts to see other people suffer theough much worse situations. This is a topic thag needs to be voiced far more !!

Jason Michael Carroll is the blond guy you see in the video and he's the writer and singer of this song. I'm not sure where it's written, but at the end of the video, it says that after hearing this, many reported being abused, where one child was saved and others got help. Carroll took two years to write "Alyssa Lies." The song was so emotionally painful to write that he got migraines while writing. It is based on a true story of a girl that wasn't saved from abuse in time. It seemed to Carroll that no matter what he wrote, he would never be satisfied with it.

  • @timlamb6196

Me and my brothers were abused growing up. I've had people ask me about my bruises but I always had an excuse. Also I became disruptive in class and so my school thought it would be a good idea to see a psychologist. Remember, it was 1975 and I was only 8 along with being used to it so I lied to the psychologist. My thoughts were it was a lose lose situation if I tell the truth because I would lose the only parents I knew and be placed god knows where or my dad would kill me. So I can relate to why "Alyssa" lied. You just try to tolerate it, get through it, and know that one day you'll be grown and out of it anyways. In the end I ended up leaving home to live with my grandmother when I was 14. When I was asked if I wanted to live with my grandmother I jumped at the opportunity. At 54 I still have mental and emotional scars over it.
