I don't think that they make it seem more complex, than it is, on purpose. I think it's just fast paced in uni, so you're forced to work on things, you don't grasp right away, yourself. And that's the main difference to school. You're not told in detail what you're supposed to be working on at home, the information you're supposed to understand is thrown at you, and you have to go ahead and study by yourself. If the professors would go slower, your degree would take 10 years. That's all just a guesstimate by me of course.
