That definitely is a great pick gun, I have an old Southord one that goes up on an angle, it has rubber on the handles so that saves you a lot of fatigue on the hands. That being said the Sparrows one is nice and flat with its motion, plus two taps so it's going to get a quicker open. As for the noise, I'm forbidden to use my pick gun while my wife is in the room, it drives her bonkers so yeah really loud :)
Yeah it’s so so loud lol
Great video, my cousin who is a licensed locksmith has a chrome lock.pick gun. He purchased it for around 8 dollars. It works extremely well if you tension the lock properly. The pick gun he has doesn't bump the pins twice as this Sparrow's does.
Thanks again for sharing this information 👌🙏
Thanks
Looks very nice, love that they put some effort in the aesthetics as well.
👍👍
As you say, this tool is sore on locks. If you look carefully, in your video, when you're using the gun, you can see metal particles emanating from the lock. Great review, by the way!
Oh yeah, all pick guns are hard on locks
In the future would love to see a side by side picking demo with a standard gun. Thanks for this!
Interesting idea. They all work by random bumping so I guess the manual ones would be slower
A great review and demo as always. Thanks for sharing Ash and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Cheers Gazz hope you have a good one!
Maybe they should call it The Sparrows Bandit. It looks really well designed. The two throws might be to help better with spool and serated pins cos rapping them again before the loose pins fall back down could be a mechanical advantage.
Never thought about that
Thanks for the informative review. My one complaint I have looking at it is the complaint I have for a lot of tool cases. The tool case should be designed to allow you to store the tool without having to remove the bit/attachments. I wonder if they would have pivoted the tool a bit then you could store it with the pick already installed instead of having to install it and then remove it every time. Other than that complaint about the storage case, it looks like a great design.
I've got a super cheap version that literally starts coming apart (all the screws loosen) after just a few minutes of using it on a few locks. Having to cinch down the screws on the body and the pick attachment over and over is so annoying that I'd happily pay more for the Sparrows version that seems far better built. The vertical travel and double strike are just icing on the cake. I'm putting this on my wish list for sure. Thanks again for the info.
I see what you mean about storing with the pick tip engaged.
One thing to keep in mind, when picking that 6 pin euro lock at 6:52 in the video, you can see the metal shavings flying out of the lock as its hit the whole time it is being picked. These should only be used for quick entry under emergency situations because the WILL tear up the locks whether you are careful or not. Great products for emergency responders or for the poor lay who locked her keys in the house with her dog. i have a cheap one that pivots at an angle. I should have bought this one lol.
As a locksmith myself, I always have to explain this to customer, even raking the lock would result in small bits flying out of the lock, however this does not affect the door to be opened by its original key.
2:05 That's a Pontiac Firebird from the 80's or 90's.
It’s great
Great review.
Let's face it... It looks very cool with the black and gold. I guess it's less damaging to the lock than an epg.
Depends on how long you use it I guess?
Maaaan, I like that Smokey and the Bandit Firebird.
Great review ash my friend👍🇬🇧😎😊👊
L and H. 3:15 Low and high, or light and heavy? Not sure it matters. Also worth pointing out that “double tap” could be a double entendres (no double pun intended) for a defensive technique with a handgun, but you can google your way on that.
That pick gun looks like a good quality tool, and I believe the car was a Pontiac Firebird.
Hi, I've been dealing with difficulty dealing with sliders for a long time, so I thought you might be able to create a dedicated picking tool with your connections.
I thought of a picking tool with a thin, flat metal rod, the width of which is gradually reduced to one. At the end there will be a small dimple protruding upwards, so that it forms a "rear airplane wing"
It is efficient because it will be strong to move from side to side, and on the other hand it will be low and efficient in the key way of cylinders.
I’ll have a think!
@@LockNoob Thank you! The idea is to create a tool (or tools) that are built to deal specifically with sliders. What is important to me is that they will be able to handle both sliders like there are in Dimple Lock, and sliders like there are in evva 4ks. The difference is the level of movement from side to side, which requires more than a dimple pick to move all the way. (Hence the idea of a hybrid between a dimple pick and a normal pick.
Good demo. I could see flakes of metal coming out of some of the locks, it's not kind to them!
No, deft not kind, but these are used for quick entry and often the locks would be replaced after
A Forensic Locksmith can easily see the damage these things cause. EPG's (electric pick guns) can really tear up a lock fast. The Sparrows one looks very nice, but be aware of the detectable damage that happens.
Should be no issue seeing as nobody should be doing anything illegal with them.
@@sovietrussia3632 yeah but lockpicking tools aren’t only used for the hobby, locksmiths use these things too
@@kaliumnitraat Fair enough
Absolutely, you have to be aware of the damage
I don't agree
I had one of those Matchbox cars too 😀
Best car ever
You had a firebird car. Smokey and the bandit.
Trans Am ... and the bird is called the Screaming Chicken.
Where do you buy it
Does it come in 9x19?
I got one several years back. The screw that holds the tips is definitely the weak point. Mine stripped out over time. The metal for the screw and the metal it screws into are made of soft steel. Sparrows should have used a nut plate for the screw to go in rather than punch forming it and making the metal so thin. I did a mod on mine to get it operational again. I would have preferred to spend a few more dollars for a pick gun that fixed this issue.
Yeah, I think the screw part could be better
I put red loctite &it works awesome
Good video !
Thanks!
It was likely a "Firebird."
👍👍
I think multipick was the first to introduce double tap pick gun. The multipick gun is named Dino semi automatic
I just looked and yes, the Dino pick seems to be very similar in operation. Thanks!
I had one. Didn't get a single open in a month.
Sold it on.
Clearly im missing something.
There is definitely a technique to it for sure, but they can be very effective once you get the hang of it
what do warding and paracentric mean?
Warding is the shape of the keyway often it makes picking more difficult due to restricting the space and angles of attack. Paracentric is a discriptor of the shape of the warding, meaning off centre, making reaching the pins more difficult.
You might want to flip the needle over to make it fit better when inserting it into the cylinder
Yep, the blade was definitely fitted upside down. It’s a minor point, especially as it wasn’t relevant for the locks picked, but if you’re down to your last blade and you’ve got a long lock, it’s best practice to always put it the right way up. Good discipline for when it does matter. But then again I’m a locksmith (not lock sport)
@@MrBeaumop I am also a locksmith and I always thought it was a gimmick until I was in Denmark with some of the people who worked there used to pick Ruko locks then swore by it for myself and my business until today.
Going to practice for freestyle competitions?
I think that last one was enough 😅😅
I have a majestic pick gun well built.
Looks really funny, but for me basic lock picks are more interesting
Definitely!
I haven't been able to open ANY lock with this.
Not every lock will open, but I had good success with it on some standard security locks
Brockage developed this years ago.
Cool! I’ll see if I can get hold of one
Ormai questo strumento può solo apre cilindri di vecchissima generazione! 👋
It can open quite a lot of cylinders new and old
Only 7 x the normal price. How can you be critical if youre in love with the plastic case and veneer.
Normal price?
@@LockNoob OK, slight exaggeration. Not a double click, but $12 in comparison.
European pickers may have to use it upside down.....
When doing lockpicking, you can just turn the lock instead of picking a lock in a door.
First and I got this notification and I thought it was someone replying to a comment lol and 8th like
