I’m with sully on Super Paper Mario. The gameplay might have been different from the first two games, but the story was sooo good, with some crazy surprises. I was shocked in multiple parts of the story, and I couldn’t get over those moments even after beating the game.

Super paper Mario is my favorite game of all time I played it with my uncle until he died when I was young so it is the most nostalgic game ever to me

In my opinion paper Mario color splash has one of the most terrifying beginnings to any game. Mario getting a Color drained toad in the mail it’s like the equivalent to somebody sending you a severed finger. Also the scene where the toad that was accompanying Mario gets his color drained gave me nightmares as a kid
At least it has amazing music, like the rest of the game. Favourite PM OST.
I’m so happy you ranked Super Paper Mario S+ tier. I feel like the game is heavily underrated since it’s not a turn based rpg. I still have my Wii and the game disc stored away. I’m thinking of replaying it again
I feel the same for Origami King. I hated the Ring Battle system, but the game looked gorgeous, the character's dialogue was fun to read, and I loved the overworld map!
origami king is one of the worst Paper Mario game i ever play
The ring battle system wasn’t too bad, it was definitely way better then color splash and sticker stars battle system, also I think the way boss battles were handled in the origami king is often underlooked because boss battles in the origami king were probably the best kinds of battles offered in the game, even if you didn’t like the battles for wild enemies, the boss battles is where origami king truly shined even if the bosses weren’t too creative in terms of design to begin with.
super paper mario was the first paper mario game i played, the story, the characters, dialogues, everthing is just straightup perfect to me. Definetly deserves de S+ tier.
I love paper Mario so much and I'm glad he made a list about it it gives you a little bit of information about each skin and white places there and that makes me happy that people are going over these games still

The original Paper Mario will always be my favorite. The story and gameplay was so much fun and the characters were so full of personality and freaking adorable🥰🥰😁😁
Super Paper Mario is most definitely my favorite Paper Mario game. Despite not being 100% RPG format like the first two Paper Mario games in favor of platforming, I actually had a lot of fun with it since I was already used to play traditional Mario platforming and we had a small taste of that platforming from Bowser's sections of TTYD. There's a lot of things that I enjoyed about this game that ranges from the God Tier writing that this game has to memorable characters to great + underrated music and obviously some awesome references + easter eggs of not just the last two Paper Mario titles, but Mario games in general. The only flaw that this game has was that because this game is having the combination of both platforming + RPG elements, the majority of bosses are very easy with usually low HP (also doesn't help if the player goes Bowser who can just sweep bosses in like 3-5 hits excluding the final bosses), but despite the battles were super easy the bosses at least were memorable and fun.
And of course, this game is where it introduces one of my favorite video game villains of all time: Dimentio! I love that sneaky, mischievous jester and don't even get me started with his (in)famous "The Ultimate Show" song lol
I'm pretty sure it's that Super Paper Mario is considered an *action* RPG rather than a *turn-based* RPG.
Without even playing the other Paper Mario games (other than Origami King), Super Paper Mario is DEFINITELY A MASTERPIECE. 👌 2007 was a golden age for video games, and the year I was born.

my favorite is paper mario 64, when i was younger i watched sully play it and play while he was playing. i used him as a guide and enjoyed watching, and i played pm 64 5 TIMES
I played through all three Paper Mario, and I did all walkthroughs of them. I haven’t got into sticker star or color splash yet, but I do appreciated of you explaining everything about Paper Mario which is very entertaining. Keep up the good work Sully! 👍🏼

I am a zookeeper in chicago and I regularly feed the hippos day old sausages so they have a taste of their home. I put strings on the sausages and swing them around the hippos they get so mad at me and scream but it's an obsession sometimes the hippos try and break out of their cages but I keep swinging those hotdogs in wide circles over their heads. Luckily my boss doesn't know I do this or my coworkers

I’ve played super paper Mario atleast 10 times throughout my life I used to play it with my uncle until he died when I was five and ever since then I have felt a special connection with the game and it is still my favorite game of all time to date so I love when it gets recognized, it’s very underrated including you I don’t know how you only have 500k subs I’ve been watching you for seven years now and I always used to think you were more famous then you are thanks for everything.
Imo I actually liked colour splash it wasn’t a half bad game with decent content though my all time fav is thousand year door it was just amazing I first watched your play through of it when I was younger and enjoyed it and eagerly waited for you to post the next episode of the games playthrough it got me hooked to try the game myself on dolphin emulator thanks to you I found my all time favourite Mario game
Origami king is def one of those games where you either love it or hate it. I loved the puzzle combat, but I understand why others wouldnt like it

@@SullyPwnz Wow, didn't expect a response....side-note, you're actually the one who sold me on getting into *2013's Tomodachi Life.* I used to watch your let's-play's of the game years back, and that's when I knew that I had to acquire the game for myself. It may get hella repetitive at times, but it's still one of my most favorite 3DS games (especially because I'm really fond of the Mii's). So, thank you for that. And yeah, I'll play Super Paper Mario one day as well.

As someone who beat super paper Mario as their first ever video game completion, (and as my favorite game of all time) I love to see anybody say anything good about it.

Super Paper Mario is my all time favorite Paper Mario game. The first two Paper Mario games are still some of the greatest, if not the greatest, games of all time. But SPM will forever be my number one Paper Mario game, and I'm glad it got recognized here
I have played a variety of Mario spinoff games in my life. However, for Paper Mario, I only played the first three games.
Of these, 64 is my favorite by a long shot. While its narrative is simple, it adds so much charm with the original characters and a simple yet deep RPG system. Love it.
TTYD is the easy fan favorite game. I do like it quite a bit. It certainly ups the stakes with a darker story and even more originality in the characters and locations. The gameplay has also been improved with enhanced commands for the partners and elaborate badges. I like 64 more, but TTYD is a good sequel.
Now for Super Paper Mario. I did play this game to completion, but only rented it for a week. From that short time playing, I liked the fusion of platforming with RPG mechanics. It also offers the wildest story with anime-type dialogue and what I think is one of the darkest villains in the Mario franchise. I enjoy Super, but not as much as its predecessors.
For the modern era of Paper Mario games...I don't really hate them. Yes, I never touched Sticker Star or its successors; yes, I am aware of the heavily reduced stories and character designs. Still, I do like the current generation of Mario games, including often-bashed titles like New Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario Party 10, and Mario Party: Island Tour. Color Splash specifically has a very lighthearted sense of dumb humor, much like Teen Titans Go. I wouldn't mind trying the new PM games at some point.

The fact that you said that paper Mario the origami king battle system dropped its ranking caught my attention because I originally felt the same way. As a matter of fact being a guy who doesn’t like puzzles I was originally turned away from buying this game entirely. But my cousin persuaded me to give the game a chance and I changed my opinion on the battle style right away
So you enjoyed the battle system?
I know I did, it was a very unique style I haven't seen before. I like having to think in battles every now and then, and also doesn't it feel more satisfying to destroy 4 to 16 enemies at once on the battlefield rather than attacking one at a time and jumping on them 4 to 8 times? The ring system changes in the bosses made it more fun and actually felt like a boss battle where I have to move around the huge boss in the center and find it's weak point. While I wish the items had more impact on certain battles, I like that every new hammer or boot variant we have is based on durability and not a one time use.
As a matter of fact I did. In fact sometimes I like to go back to this game just a marathon through the boss is just for fun
I think the boss battles in origami king is where the game truly shined, although random encounters weren’t too fun they were effective in terms of getting money which you need in order to buy supplies.
@@GodSlayer330 yeah the only reason to battle enemies is to gain coins, and sometimes to gain confetti

Ever since Super Paper Mario came out in 2007 I've deemed it the best PM game (and got criticized for it a lot). I have a personal connection with the game because my grandparents died around that time and 12 year old me related the ending of the game to my grandparents uniting in heaven. I cannot play SPM without shedding tears at the end to this day. No other video game has done that to me

From the ones I have played, Super Paper Mario is my favourite. I haven't played 64, Thousand Year Door and Origami King.
Love both Thousand Year Door & Super Paper Mario equal only because it has better story, better characters, better music & better place to go. The battle system is enjoyable to play with. I will love to see if they will add other paper characters like Daisy, Wario, Rosalina, Donkey Kong etc. to expand the variety of many different worlds to go. I just hope that Nintendo will understand that we just want Paper Mario to have the same gameplay just like the first two games back in the day.

This is Color Splash and Origami King Slander! Both deserve to be at least one tier higher, though I can't argue them objectively being above the original three games (I do think OK is better than Super though.) It is your opinion though, and I have to respect it, even if I disagree.
Havent played much of Thousand Year Door (which i know that i need to do), but love both Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario. I think i like Super Paper Mario more because of that you can play as Peach, Bowser and Luigi then to just play as Mario

The only game I've played related to Paper Mario was Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, though I don't think this counts as a Paper Mario game, since it's a crossover with the Mario & Luigi series.
The one I really wanna play is Super Paper Mario. I also would like to give Origami King a try, though I'm a bit iffy on the gyro controls and the battle system.
The gyro controls in Origami King are entirely optional and you can change them to analog stick controls

I agree with you that SPM was the best PM game. I believe they had the best story in any Nintendo game I’ve played as a kid (and today on the Switch as an adult!). Dimentio was one of the best villains Nintendo ever created too. 😍🤩

I haven't played Sticker Star or Color Splash, so i can't speak on those. My ranking from best to worst:
1. TTYD
2. Paper Mario 64
3. Super Paper Mario
4. Origami King
Origami King had so much potential, and quite honestly, the story imo is up there with TTYD. But I HATED that battle system. And the one other thing was that you didn't have any permanent partners.
I beat SPM quite a few times, but I just missed the turn-based combat.
64 was great. It just didn't have quite an original story seeing as it is Bowser kidnapping Peach and Mario has to save her. And sometimes the time commands were hard to hit.
TTYD, I totally loved the story and each chapter had something unique to it. And bottom line is it had the best gameplay.
You put 64 and TTYD in the same rank, which do you like better? :)

Good video but I say another problem I had with origami King is I didn't like how almost all the side characters were toads again and not original characters

You don't understand the struggles that toads go through. They're the native residents of the Mushroom Kingdom after all. I don't see you complaining that almost all the side characters in Africa are black, and that's because they're the native residents of Africa. You want white people, you go to a different continent. You want non-toads, you play a game that isn't set in the Mushroom Kingdom or Prism Island.
I remember not knowing what to do or how to play super paper mario when it came out as I was 9 lol, I recently completed the first game so I'd love to get into ttyd and super paper mario again and actually finish those titles. As for the new paper mario titles, sticker star is meh, color splash was awesome imo, and origami king is alright. I feel the same as sully about the battle system in it. Its not bad but tedious

Might be weird for the planet to shut for them going into what they normally end up with, but I agree the first one pleasent for all.
i have played the first 3, but not the other three. For me i would have to give paper mario 1 a great rank because it was just like you said a great rpg that started it all. But then i would have to put paper and the thousand year old above the original because it improved everything the original did perfectly and just enjoyed it. As for super paper i would have put that below the original because i think it was a good game with a fantastic story with game elements that worked, but i just thought it was just way too easy to beat.
For my top 3 it would be tyd, paper mario n64, and super paper mario

Origami King is one of those games that I should like, but don't. It answered my prayers of having all the levels be connected again and finally having our main villain NOT be Bowser for the first time since Bowser's Inside Story, but I just can't get past the repetitive battle system.
I do think you ranked Origami King a bit too low, but it's my favorite Mario RPG of all time so it was kind of expected. Still a good vidoe though.
