The goal was to promote road trip by delivering his brand.. which he couldn’t have done better in the 5 minutes he had, IMO. Road trip brought in 119 million worldwide from an investment of only 16. The movie wasn’t even that great with critics but with appearances like this he left people curious. Now it might seem tacky or over blown but again back in 2000 many people had never seen this kind of thing on a talk show, and it worked pretty damn well.
He was ahead of his time and I credit him for opening the doors for people like Eric Andre, Jackass, Tim and Eric, and the like. Back then, I don't think Tom Green's brand of ultra-absurdist comedy had really been in the mainstream yet until he made the scene. Monty Python could be considered as pioneering absurdist type comedy into the mainstream, at least as a cult classic, but Tom took it to such an extreme level with his more abstract style and really primed the masses for the kind of stuff Adult Swim became popular for.

I would argue where she's NOT different, hardly at all, is in terms of substance. She's a traditionalist, and a bit of a sophisticate. In my opinion, all those quips she makes about decorum, manners, and lifestyle, are NOT part of an act. I would imagine she finds "gross-out" humor irritating to no end.

Never got into Tim and Eric that much but definitely cracked up a few times I watched it. However, I can't believe that I never came across Eric Andre until this freakin year. I think he sort of synthesized Tom Green's public art and talk show weirdness with Tim and Eric's media styles and took it ten more levels higher into pretty much one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. I have literally not been able to not watch episodes and clips everyday. Kind of excited to see this next season coming up, but maybe it's past his peak. Either way I'm still excited to see it.
