The pit maneuver lawsuit was settled because the law states when unable to safely pull over on a controlled access motorway, the operator is to reduce speed pull over to the right, turn the emergency flashers on, and proceed to the next exit, or safe place to pullover.
ok first thing there was plenty of space to pull over if the trooper thought it unsafe he would have told her to go to the next exit over his PA system. second reduce speed i didn't see her step on the brakes one time except for the initial tap when he lit her up. furthermore, he pulled up beside her she could have yelled out the window or anything just to acknowledge his presence. these officers have to deal with junk like this all day and every day. all anyone has to do to avoid it is comply
@@uncletoy774 no way you're on the officers side here when she literally had her hazard lights on, also she very clearly wasn't going very fast in the first place, he could have followed to see what happens and it was pretty obvious enough that she was probably just looking for a better place to stop

'Merica! 😁
The poor little cow was probably so scared! I once called 911 because I saw horses running down a main road. I'm a city girl, but I learned this isn't that abnormal in the country when I followed them to meet their owner trying to lure them back with a bucket of feed, I guess. Maybe horse crack? Drive as cautiously on country roads as you do in the city. There may be fewer impaired drivers, but there are cows and horses.

The one in the red SUV she slowed down, put her hazard lights on. I don’t know where he thought she was gonna pull over it but that’s what they tell us to do if it’s not safe to pull over to slow down and put your hazard lights on, and that supposedly supposed to tell the police that as soon as it’s safe, you’re gonna pull over. She’s on a highway
I think the red suv one was entirely stupid with the officer...it was not necessary
Yup, that was infuriating! She did everything right and nearly got killed for it! That cop was an idiot. They literally teach this in drivers ed.
What's also scary, is that the shoulder is almost non-existent, and an officer getting out of the cruiser to her vehicle could very well be hit and killed, despite move over laws, which I see so many drivers ignore.
Did they fire this cop????
@@winterphoenix09I sure as hell hope so. That’s unbelievable…
The passenger in that ghost Corvette wasn't going to be involved in that chase. Smart guy.

That dog has seen this movie before. Beer, a wreck, cops with guns, he gave his human up and went on to live a productive life with less drama.
That cop that flipped the pregnant moms car is in the wrong and the fact he lied and said she should've pulled over immediately is messed up. You have the right to pull over where you feel its safe!

Not necessarily yes that Pitt was totally unnecessary but in some states you are required to pull right over
I noticed that most of the cars DIDN'T slow down or pull over for the police.
I was taught that if you hear sirens or see lights flashing you slow down and pull over if possible to ANY emergency vehicle.

Arkansas State Police have signed off on a $150,000 payment to Harper, in the excessive force PIT that flipped the pregnant woman's car. They also had to agree to change their guidelines for PITs.
Seriously, what a dumbshit fascist cop. Obviously it was unsafe to pull over there and the driver responded with a right blinker then emergency flashers while slowing down. She should have pulled over and hopefully the cop would have gotten clipped by a car passing at 70mph when he got out, and flown over her car like superman. She shoulda got $1 million and cop shoulda been fired, no pension. He was a danger to the public, so maybe even jailtime.
thank god she was okay. The cop was a total dick.
What a MORON! I can't believe he did that. It should have been $1,500,000!
Good they should have paid more! There was no reason to pit that car.. she turned on her flashers and was probably going to pull over in a safer location. When I saw that video I couldnt believe that the officer did that so quickly.
They had to rewrite their policy to be more in accordance with the Arkansas drivers manual, which she was following and got pitted anyways.
#3 gets a possible death sentence for going 14mph over the speed limit !! That's insane..
Officer seemed awfully impatient and acted hastily.
That's nuts. And that kind of crap is why chasing people is phasing out.
What do you mean? Number 3 was a calf mate

Corporal Rodney Dunn was on the force for over 20 years and didn’t know that slowing down and pulling over in a SAFE area was a thing. He must not like his job much if he never took the time to learn about it.

i agree with you, Calalilyuf. there was a policy, for driver to pull over in a well lit & safe place. i think, this cop was on a power trip.
In my opinion, they should ban all PIT manoeuvre, as they are unsafe to other motorists & pedestrian
They say that in the DMV driver's handbook. I think she sued and won. I lived by a highway and I could always hear the California Highway patrol on loudspeaker not to pull over on the freeway and to exit.
obviously the officer is not the sharpest tool in the shed
He is HUMAN. ALL humans make MISTAKES. 🤦♂️
Insane pitting the pregnant women whos car flipped. When she slowed down went in right lane with hazzards on while exiting for a safe spot off Eway.
And they hesitated to do PITs on actual reckless drivers or runaways🗿Some Police officers smh
I understand all of these concerns but the officer didn’t know she was pregnant nor did he think her car would flip! I don’t think it’s either side’s fault, though if she did just pull over and tell the officer that she wanted to go to the exit it probably would’ve been easier, though there isn’t much room to pull over so I understand her side
@@Lucid_Dearest_ Pitting a compliant vehicle, 100% officer at fault and charges should be laid against the officer.

Crazy dude got charged with injuring an officer when they did the failed pit maneuver
He didnt think it would flip at that speed, ill bet.
DipStick was the first word that came to mind.
This cop is in the wrong, he doesn’t know his own department regulations, when sh flip on her 4way emergency lights she was telling him she was willing to stop, but she wanted a more safe place for her and the officer. I really don’t care about their state laws, safety comes first. Officer YOU WERE WRONG period.
Arkansas changed the way police/state troopers make pit maneuvers after this very event. The state trooper was sued and found in the wrong for performing this dangerous pit maneuver.
Actually no. In the time of this incident, and during the court hearing, more on that in a second, every single officer agreed it was justifiable, at the current pit maneuver policy. Settling in court however, the policy had since been updated. The officer, officer Dunn, remained a trooper after this incident, since no violations in the current policy at the time were made.
@@bonniem2454 he was never found in the wrong, the suet was settled outside of court, no amount found, and with the condition the pit policy be changed. Officer Dunn is still a trooper to this day
I was instructed that I should pull over when conditions are safe. The lady was right.
If the driver, the woman, felt pulling over was unsafe, and was NOT causing a danger to others, police policy or not, it cop did a bone head move making the PIT maneuver. It could very well have cost the life of the woman, her unborn child and other people using the highway. The cop is a moron.
Absolutely NO NEED to pit maneuver that red SUV. Absolutely unconscionable!!!

The big rig losing its breaking is scary and add to that it seemed to be picking up speed too

I was also going to mention downshifting!
This had me too, I get it when brakes fail, but I didn't think you shoukd be staying on the gas either....
Agreed, downshift, leave it in gear and shut the engine down, pull both brake knobs out. Atleast one set of axles on the truck has spring parking brakes and most trailers all axles have spring parking brakes as well, it'll be a ride but you'll stop as long as the brakes aren't smoked and I didn't see any fire.

As a commercial driver. Here’s a suggestion. If you have no brakes, why not just turn off the ignition switch and coast to a stop. All the while downshifting
i wondered about that
Umm wouldn't you loose your ability to steer .not a truck driver
Yes you’ll lose the power steering and it’ll be a bear to handle but you can still steer the truck. Old time truckers drove those trucks all day without out the power steering. The only power steering they had was your two arms.

Yup.
I’m guessing he couldn’t get it into gear and the engine brake wasn’t working enough?
Idk, I was thinking he could’ve popped the trailer brakes or something which would’ve wrecked his equipment but that happened anyway and in a far worse way.

I live in Tooele County. It was all over the news. He had told his company about brake problems and they blew it off. The area he was in was too crowded to use the j brake. It would have caused the trailer to jack knife and main Street is not very wide at all. It would have caused way more damage
Truck had no brakes, but it apparently wasn't able to shut off or come out of gear?
Wow, just wow...
On the videos from the local news stations where this happened, there were a lot of 18-wheel drivers with sympathy for the driver, since losing brakes is never a good situation. I asked about switching to neutral gear to slow down in a big rig; apparently, that's not an option for that kind of vehicle. Apparently, he was going downhill when his brakes failed on him, while driving a double-loaded trailer of gravel. AARs indicated that the truck had 80% of brakes fail due to poor maintenance, and the driver/truck owner may be up on charges.
What gives me pause is the early part of the clip... He's on pretty level ground and not going that fast. Take it outta gear and hit the dirt... I've had to move big excavators, that kind of weight will tighten you up... You HAVE to have all options in your head when you in a rig... There's a lot of lives around you...
@@darklichnyHe came out of a canyon. It's down hill all the way. There was nothing that was going to slow him down until the crash.
Was there an option to shift gears down to a lower gears. This uses the engine as a braking mechanism.

Apparently that pit maneuver wasn't executed correctly. That officer went for the front of the perpetrator's vehicle instead of the rear, which is how most pit maneuvers are done. The officer "injured" himself, not the runaway, for failing to execute the pit properly.

Also, trooper Dunn should've been fired and barred from enlisting in any law enforcement for nearly killing a pregnant woman and disregarding her safety.
And the charge of injuring an officer doesn't seem fair to me when clearly it was the officer that injured him self

The Arkansas trooper pitted that woman in less than 30 seconds. You can see the exit where dunn did his uturn. She sued and won. The cop was in the wrong
How is the officer supposed to know that the woman intended to pull off ramp and then stop? She may have won in a lawsuit but still learned a lesson and glad she did - the officer was fine.

.
I was in a 2 year diesel mechanics course in the middle 1970's. During the segment on air brakes, they taught us:
1) EVERY vehicle on the road, including trucks and trailers with air brakes, has a brake on EVERY wheel. (We all already knew this but they had to say it anyway.)
2) EVERY truck and trailer with air brakes, built since the early 1970's, has failsafe brakes. This means that air pressure actually disengages the SPRING LOADED brake shoes / pads from the drums / rotors until the brake pedal, in the tractor, is depressed or the disengaging air pressure is removed from the system. This way, if the brake system loses air pressure due to a broken hose, compressor failure, a hole punched into the air tank from road debris or any other cause, the springs in each air chamber on EVERY wheel will apply it's own individual brake bringing the truck to a stop automatically with no input from the driver. This is why you will sometimes see 4 black stripes on the road leading to the shoulder. The truck had lost air pressure and the brakes had locked up dragging the 4 tires on at least one axle.
3) There are 2 knobs on the dashboard of EVERY truck equipped with air brakes. 1 red and 1 yellow.
3a) There are 2 hoses extending from the rear of EVERY tractor. One with a red connector on the end and one with a blue connector on the end. These connect to the air brake connectors on the trailer. The blue hose supplies air to release the FAILSAFE trailer brakes. The red hose supplies air to apply the trailer brakes when the tractor's brake pedal is depressed.
When you first get into a tractor, you start the engine and wait for air pressure to build until a low pressure warning buzzer quiets. You then press the above mentioned red knob on the dashboard to release the tractor brakes. You back up to your trailer and engage the 5th wheel pin, (the big trailer hitch). You pull the red knob locking the tractor brakes, get out and connect the red and blue hoses to their corresponding colored trailer's air connectors, you plug in the big round plug that supplies power to the trailer lights, you crank up the landing gear, (the 2 legs under the front of the trailer), you get into the tractor, press the red AND yellow knobs then drive away. (This is an abridged version. You should also do safety checks on 5h wheel engagement, lights, tires ect.). When you pressed the yellow knob, you unlocked the trailer brakes. When you pressed the red knob, you made air available to the tractor AND trailer brakes to apply them if the brake pedal is depressed.
I gave you this free lesson on air brake function / operation to demonstrate my point. These are not called FAILSAFE BRAKES for nothing.
There were 3 axles on that tractor, (2 rear, 1 front).= 6 brakes. One on each wheel.
There were 3 axles on each trailer, (3 rear), = 2 trailers X 6 brakes each = 12 brakes. One on each wheel. Total = 18 individual brakes on the tractor and 2 trailers. Any one of those brakes, if applied, would have eventually slowed that truck, over time, to a stop.
Even if the brake pedal, in the tractor, fell completely off onto the floorboard, the driver could have pulled the red and / or yellow knobs on the dashboard and applied all 18 brakes at once bringing even a fully loaded truck to a smoking, screeching halt in less than 200 feet on 36 large tires dragging.
Even if the air knobs had fallen off, the driver could have downshifted the transmission using the engine to slow the truck and, at 30 MPH, cut the engine off bringing the truck to manageable stop.
It is physically impossible for all 18 brakes to have worn completely out at the same time under normal operation without someone noticing. Even if they had, the metal shoes that the brake material was bonded / riveted / bolted to would have provided enough friction to stop that truck albeit in a longer than normal, longer than normally acceptable distance. All of the above reasons are why you do NOT see runaway trucks more often.
Occasionally, on the interstate or other mountainous roads, you will see runaway truck ramps up a hill or runaway truck lanes ending in large piles of dirt, cross catch straps or cross catch cables. These are usually in states with mountains and on roads with signs depicting a truck on a down grade with a percentage of the grade and continuing for X number of miles. At this point, the driver should slow down and downshift the transmission so they don't have to ride their brakes as much to keep speed control going down the hill. Most standard transmissions in trucks aren't synchronized like car transmissions and, if not shifted properly, the truck can get trapped in neutral forcing the driver to ride the brakes all the way down the hill. This extreme, unusual friction can cause the brake linings to catch fire leading to failure hence the need for runaway truck ramps or lanes. I didn't see any evidence of this in the video as there would have been a lot of smoke and maybe fire trailing from the truck as even the tires can catch fire in this case.
I submit that this driver may have been new at it, didn't know what he was doing in an emergency and / or they panicked. By the grace of God, no one was killed.
I live near Little Rock and I remember hearing about the incident with the pregnant lady getting flipped. At the time, the law stated that if an officer was to attempt to pull you over, you can continue on until you find a safe place to pull over. To indicate that is your intent, you are supposed to slow down and turn on your flashers as she did. The State Troopers in this area have an especially bad reputation. The only negative interaction I have ever had with any officer around here was with a State Trooper that was clearly bored and looking for someone to be his entertainment. He pulled me over despite my following all the traffic laws and stated the reason he pulled me over was for a law that it turned out didnt exist. Something about cracks on the windshield. He asked where I was going, to which I said I was going to get my proof of insurance. He wrote me a ticket for no insurance, wreckless driving, and license plate lamp out. The wreckless driving was for driving with the crack in my windshield I assume and the license plate lamp being out was especially strange since it was in the middle of the day. All charges were thrown out when I went to court since I was insured, the cracked windshield law didnt exist, and license plate lamps only come on when the driving lights are on and I could easily prove they worked since I replaced the standard bulbs that kept going out with a bright LED strip
I do understand where your coming from about how state troopers act, however I do also wanna js note that the highway isnt all that busy, and the curb side had enough room for her to stop and for it to be safe even with her being prregnant. When u see a cop car pull up to one side on your taillight its a big indication that something is going to happen and he gave her enough time ofr in that situation to make the desicison to pull over and stop. But I also think he did jump to a put manuever very quickly. Those are only supposed to be used in situations where they are unable to stop a driver in a harrowing situation. However it doesnt seem like it shows the whole cop cam video, so I dont entirely know if she was displaying unsafe behaivor while in the vehicle.
But I have also dealt with Arkansa police when driving through there and those state troopers are worse than the ones here in Ohio. I havent ever met people so evil and vindictive than state troopers in that state.
I live in Hawaii and most people who get a wreckless driving, have cuffs on for some reason or another.
@@Ggarden_ggnome 1 thing I can say in response to your first comment is that not all cops are good guys. When I was a kid, there were quite a few dirty cops in the area. Some of the worse I heard about was a few cops SAing woman they pulled over. And it doesn't take a busy road to cause an accident. Around the 2010s, there was a big issue with drunk drivers around here. They would usually wait till its late and not many cars are on the road and drive with no lights on hoping they wouldn't be spotted. I happened across 1 of those 1 time. We were coming up to a red-light were I30 goes over Military Road. We were on Frontage going into town. I noticed dude wasn't driving too well, so I opted not to pass him. Coming up to the light, he just kinda started to drift to the left and blew through the red-light and smashed into the wall under the interstate. He then kept trying to drive, so I followed and flagged him down incase it was a medical emergency. Turns out as I said, he was drunk af to the point he could stand. It happens alot in these areas because of dry county laws. Many of them would be on the way to the county line to restock their supply because they cant stand not being drunk constantly. Its still a problem today, but not as bad as it use to be. We do however still have plenty of problems with texting and driving, though thats usually during rush hours
@@Ggarden_ggnome Also, you are 100% right he jumped to pitting her too quickly. Cops here are supposed to go to classes to get approved to do the maneuver as well as getting authorization before doing so and they are supposed to have backup to act as a witness and provide aid should things go south such as the officer wrecking and becoming incapacitated. But reguardless of everything, it is law that they must indicate they intend to pull over by doing as she did. Slowing down and turning on her flashers. Unless she tried to speed off, there was no need to escalate the situation
Wait a minute! Did Andrew's dog ever get found? That poor dog.
That dog is better off without its owner.
Rumor has it that there is still and APB out on the dog and it is being considered for the FBI's top 10 most wanted list.

@@misterwhipple2870 oh wait nvm sorry lol
I lived in Utah until 3 years ago and trust me Tooele makes head line news a lot 😂 also you should find the footage from the 2 semi’s in a year that lost their breaks going down the steep road into Garden City, Utah crashing into the same building that sits at the bottom of the intersection it was crazy to watch. Oh and the boat the launched over 2 cars landing on a pickup trucks roof at the same intersection 😅
God dang, that cruiser in #4 had some mad traction lol
Did they ever find the Corvette? Couldn't they run the plate to see who it was registered to?
They probably did.
The plate seemed legit.
But it doesn’t matter. It’s better to get off for speeding and fleeing, than weapons and drug charges (especially if convicted felon.)
Plus he can argue that he wasn’t the one driving that day (even though he’d still be held responsible, according to law.)
It was worth it, for the driver 💯
The first one is crazy already 😮
Me personally I have worked on a few big trucks and know several people who drive big trucks and too be hauling a double trailer that by just seeing what they were if loaded were very heavy and the 26 year old driver was a great driver to keep control as well and as long as he did with zero breaks he deserves a mother fucking award of some sort unless you have driven one or have been in one being driven by someone else you just can't appreciate how hard it would have been great job my friend I hope you get to see this 👍
The suspect didnt injure the officer, the officer did it to himself.
19:07 into the video
Officer to dispatch...
Suspect is hoofing it...😏
9:37 ...Looks like I picked the wrong day to try to climb out of the back of the SUV
I thought for sure that kid was dead. Not sure if the trooper hit the suv on purpose or just couldn't stop fast enough.
@darkancient probably couldn't stop in time. Running those speeds heats the brakes up. Hot brakes don't work so good.
Ofc he hit it on purpose. He pulled a full u turn. @@darkancient
I was laughing to myself at how unnecessary it was for the cop to crash into an upside down vehicle like that until I read your comment and saw the guy trying to escape. Now it’s just sickening
When police try to spin your vehicle, end up flipping, then blame you for causing it 😂
0:32 I'm admiring the perfect squareness of Wyoming and Colorado.
I just believe that cops put so many people in danger by chasing people
If people obeyed the law they wouldn’t run.
He should have been sued. He didn't even ask if it was a medical emergency
"Honey, I left the stove on"
-Truck Driver, 2023
No need to flip the car. She has every right to sue! She put on her hazards and slowed down. That’s what you’re suppose to do if you can’t safely pull over! And the cop didn’t even seem concerned that she was pregnant!!!!!
9:40 Why did the policecar crash into the car when the car was already flipped over and could not possibly get away?
Oh. Come on. Clearly unintentional.
Hot brakes don't work real well. Running those speeds and stopping quickly heats them up a lot.
Not only that, there was a guy hanging out of the back window. Maybe the cop was aiming.
Just watch him when he jumps out... He's so pissed off. Like Barney Fife.
I didnt think that many people noticed it.
Dude, you pronounced Toole PERFECTLY!
I'm definitely convinced that OP or OP's writer looks up pronunciations for all of the place names, because there's a lot of instances where he correctly pronounces various town and prefecture names in China, which a lot of people outside of the region don't get right at all. That little extra bit of effort definitely elevates this channel. :)

#4 Andrew's dog is still running to this day 🐕💨
I lived in Tooele when that happened. My girlfriend and I were heading home when it happened. The guy only had one working brake
I don't understand why he wasn't using engine braking. He should have been able to maintain no more that 5-7mph if he just started downshifting.
I was in the intersection where the two cars got clipped the day before. Oof
