Husband just purchased this tent for winter camping in Colorado mountains. Set up in the back yard to try out. Easy to set up and quality is great. So glad we did not get the nylon one from Cabellas. Delivery from Competitive Edge was great. Really pleased with purchase.
Just bought this tent from your website earlier today. I look forward to using it! I also bought the user handbook recommended Colorado Cylinder Spruce stove. Thanks for the informative video!
Thanks for the video. I appreciate the tip about angling the ridge pole ropes so you can set it up solo. That saved me some time. I was able to throw this tent together pretty easily on my first try thanks to your instructions.
That is a really nice tent. I have a very cheap wall tent now to see what size actually works for me, but I'm going to purchase a tent like this next year. I will be putting mine up and down by myself most of the time so it's good to see you do that. A hint I have for you is on the middle ridge support, temporarily use one of the other guy ropes to support the pole upright on both ends. Now if your method works just fine, then no need for that. EDIT: I see others have suggested the same thing. It didn't seem as if you needed it, but if you get any wind it may be helpful.
Cool, thanks. I'm making it a little extra challenging for myself by building a deck/platform for my site. So i'll bolt to the wood instead of stake to the ground for the tent, and happily it looks like they provide good extra length in the guy lines, judging by the amount you were able to double back over when you hooked them up on themselves again, so I should have enough to make up the difference in height from the deck when staking the lines to the ground outside the deck.... we shall soon see, I guess. ha.
Thanks for the setup video Charlie. I'll be honest my first time setup by myself was quite frustrating. Keeping the ridge poles from falling over while trying to extend them was the issue for me so the angled guys I'm sure will be helpful next time. Another thing that might help would be to have an extra guy line for each ridge pole just for the setup process that could be removed once the side poles are up.
With another outfitter tent I own, I guy line the 4 corner poles first then install the ridge pole. I’m not sure if that works here but I’m going to give it a try in the next couple weeks.
Anyway to further Insulate these Kodiak tents. Looking to use this fore backyard fun with My son over winter, and wouldn't want the stove on all the time.
Good question. There's not really a way to insulate them. They do seal up pretty good so you don't get a draft from wind, rain, snow, etc, but without a heating source there's nothing to keep the temperature inside from eventually becoming the same as the outside temp. They are fun for the backyard for sure.
I recommend a mallet that has a thingie on it to pull up tent stakes. This is what I bought. I have not used it. Kodiak might have their own which i would recommend. Here is mine. "Camping Hammer Heavy Duty with Tent Stake Remover, 12.6" Steel Tent Hammer - Rubber Covered Handle Tent Mallet with Holding Strap (Black)
Looking to buy this one or the 12x12 from you soon! Would this one fit a queen-size cot while also using the wood stove, or do I need to go with the bigger 12x12?
How many stakes are there total? I know there are 12 for the guy lines and at least 4 for each corner but what about midway on each side and each end at the tent floor to ground position (four more?) Maybe a total of 20?
First off thank you for the videos. After lots of researching your video on the 12x12 convinced my to buy and I have not been disappointed. I am looking at this tent for just my family of 4 and on the description on Bass Pro it says it will only sleep 2 with a stove in there. Is there a small stove that will keep it warm where I can fit my 4 bodies in there with a stove?
I'm glad the videos were helpful. For liability purposes, we can't recommend smaller stoves. These have been tested with the alpine camp chef stove and the colorado spruce stove - each has a 5" pipe. I think Bass Pro is just being ultra-conservative in their estimate. If you're family includes children you should easily be able to sleep 4 of you.
Great overview of the 10x10 cabin. Do you think a 10x10 cabin has more usable floor space then the 10x14 flex bow? I want to be able use 2 sets of disco bunk bed cots and I have a feeling the vertical cabin tent walls I can put the disco beds up against the walls leaving more open floor verses a flex bow where I would have to move the disco beds away from the wall because of the sloped walls which would result in less open floor space? Any input?
I think the 10x10 cabin feels like it has more usable floor space, because the walls are verticle up to 4' then taper. But, that is only if you are not using a stove inside the tent. Disco beds can be pretty tall though. The shortest model if you stack them is 32" I believe. The 10x14 does slope and you'd probably lose a foot on each of the 10' ends.
Can you do a review highlighting the features, pros, cons. Set up looks pretty straight forward. Can’t seem to find a footprint though (the right size).
Me too. I started these demos when I lived in Utah and now I'm in North Carolina where we just don't get much snow. Maybe we will this winter. At any rate, if you want to see the 12x12 in snow (keep in mind the 10x10 would even do better in snow with the smaller surface area roof, but same ridge pole) here is a link to it: www.competitiveedgeproducts.com/Kodiak-Lodge-Stove-Tent-6170-Winter-Update-Blog_b_171.html That's a 4month blog where we kept it up all winter. Here is specifically a video showing it in snow: czcams.com/video/UtXNLWpUZTI/video.html Hope it helps. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.
Obviously the first couple of times that I would set up the tent would be slow, but once a person is used to setting it up, what would be your estimate of setup time, with one person doing it alone? Also, what is the wall height? I looked on your website but could not find that.
I'm sorry for the delay in replying to you. I think having set it up a few times it's more like 15 minutes with one person which considering the size and strength of the tent isn't too bad. The wall height before it tapers in is 4'. It's not on the website, but it will be shortly. :) www.competitiveedgeproducts.com/product.asp?itemid=4496
The guy ropes don't actually attach to the tent directy, but they attach to the poles. So, the moment you pull the pulls off, the guy ropes come off as well. If they were attached to thetent directly though it wouldn't hurt anything if you left them attached. You could attach them to the tent directly for easy of assembly - that's an interesting idea. Then when you set it back up all the guy ropes are out, you untie them from the points of contact and attach them back to the poles. Is that what you're asking?
Thank you for the video. Kodiak Canvas support actually recommended this video for how to fold the tent to fit in the bag.

Thank you for your comment. Please keep us updated on how the winter camping goes. If you have any questions, let us know.
It’s definitely better than the cabelas alaknak. I’m snagging one for elk hunting in Colorado as a base camp
How long did it take to get delivered after your purchased

Badass video. Thanks for sharing
That was a informative video. I have a Kodiak tent coming next week. Thanks for the video.

Awesome video, thx.

I hear ya. It was after my first fail that I realized I could angle the ropes to help me.

@jcbasch did the four corner method work?

Is it water proof
Question; what would be the downfall if you left the guyros connected to the tent, roll up?

Is the roof fire retardant?
It would be great if you had a stove for sale for this tent but you don't, that would be a great selling point Right????
actually no a much better selling point is the ability to put in any stove that you like as long as it's flue pipe is less than 5 in wide
Going to be honest when you pause it it frustrates the heck out of me
What a crappy thing to say. Can’t you just be grateful for the content and information?
