    Nice review. Thanks. I can say these tents hold up well, I managed a very rural campground in Oregon and lived in mine 3 years. Rain, (lots) Snow, (lots) Gusty winds? No problem. The county asked me to manage a camp right on the coast for a few months. Went through a 50 mph wind with gusts to 70 mph. No problem. Near the 3rd year I did have one small leak from the roof. A good spray with silicone took care of it. I had the basic model 10x10, just me and my faithful lab. Plenty of room. This ten was very comfortable, hot or cold weather. Now as to setup - - these tents are pretty heavy (at least for me at 65 and only 5'6" yet I was still able to do it myself. 2 folks? Piece of pie (I don't care for cake all that much) I honestly can't praise the tents enough. I donated it to the county who still uses it for emergencies. 73 now, just me and dog. Thinking about the 2 person. Looks awesome. Once again that's for a great review. 1 thing "season" the tent as per instructions, don't over wet! Light sprinkle. I did it about 3 times before "moving in"

      70mph?!! That's awesome feedback. We haven't been able to test over 40mph and it held up just fine, but I'm glad to know what yours has been through. Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks for this info! I'd like to use one as an outdoor art studio in the summer, on the Oregon coast, so this is helpful. Any mildew issues when you were set up on the coast?

    • @richardwarren7492
      @richardwarren7492 Před 2 lety +1

      @@vinitapappas Not when new - the fabric was treated and very water proof. Near the 3 year mark, I had 2 small leaks spray silicone took care of it. The only issue (with any tent) be sure it's dry - dry! before rolling up and storing. And no, no mildew issues. Be sure to follow directions to "season" the canvas - very easy. I did mine twice - Directions come with tent.

    September 6, 2014 My brother and I were camping in North east Oregon and we had an unexpected storm hit... I was rudely awoken at 3:50 am, to what I thought was a herd of elk ripping thru camp, but a short time after that, more clamor! I stuck my head out to find “thigh deep” snow...and the clamor was tents collapsing!! We had 5 in camp total! After I got my bearings, I shook my 10x10 Bowflex off, shoveled snow away from the base and went about salvaging the other tents the best I could. Later in n the day my brother returned from satellite camp and we went about repairing tents...aside from our base tents, our two satellite tents collapsed as well, (his on him!!). Only my Bowflex survived by unscathed!! I’m a big fan of Kodiak Tents!! Tried and true!!😊👍

    I have the 10x14 deluxe w/windows on all sides and double doors. It is so big inside its more like a room instead of a tent. I'm 6ft and love the fact that I only stoop a little going thru
    the door. Never inside! The spring pole is a great system BUT the tent MUST be secured in order for the tent to work. The inside hanger pouches are ok, nothing great. The bigger of pouches works well on the outside of the tent using the loops provided. The mesh over the windows is excellent. Its very fine mesh,so fine in fact that if you are camping when its hot a light breeze wont come thru the screen mesh. Bring a portable fan. Never a drop of water has made its way into my tent. I have lived in this tent going on 1 1/2 years. I move to the mountains,lake,and lots of desert living. Notice I said living. Thats a big difference from a 3-5 day campout. I live in this tent full time.When you put your tent away be sure the floor is clean. The inside of the roof is white and when you collapse the tent for storage or to move to another site, all the floor dirt and dust is now on the bottom of the roof. When you set up make sure the doors are
    zipped closed. Its okay to have the zippers down and windows half open (from when you put it away) to make it easier to put up. The suction is pretty strong when putting up the
    spring poles. You"ll get used to it. The stakes for securing the tent are a joke. If you can get them in easy, good luck if the weather goes bad. I use a battery powered 1/4" drive impact wrench and drive 10" lag bolts with large cut washers to secure the tent. My tent has been in snow,hail storms, thunderstorms with 60 mph gusts and 40mph constant winds ,monsoons(flash flood) and scorching heat(114°) and sub freezing weather. (18°). Only had 1 problem with the zipper on the awning side door and that may have been my fault. Not sure about that and I fixed it anyways. The
    awning MUST be tipped down with any real amount of rain. It holds so much water that when you push up from the bottom to get rid of the 10 gallon puddle over head, you will get SOAKED from the splash. I have videos of how excellent this tent has performed in a thunderstorm with hail. The water ran under the tent so fast it floated my 100 lb dog! The day after I show the mud/sand line of how high the water got and not a drop of rainwater came inside. Unbelievable but true and video to back it up! See how I cured the anemic stakes and how well the tent performed.People are amazed that Im still in the same tent for more than a year after all the weather and sun its been thru. Its really that good and worth every penny. In very cold weather I use a Mr Heater Big Buddy. With a 5 gallon propane tank (outside the tent) it keeps the tent comfortable on low and will run for 220 hours. That works for me. I provide my own energy via solar power so I can watch TV,charge phones,lightsand run a radio. I pack in my water via reliance 7 gallon stackable water totes. Yes, I have videos on those too. None of my adventure would be possible without the the perfect base camp. The Kodiak Canvass 10x14 tent is the base camp for anyone in my opinion. Here is my disclaimer. I do not endorse any of the products mentioned in my comments for compensation. Its all true and oh,by the way, Im 60 years old and love the tent/camp/outdoor living life. Cheers and buy the 10x14!

      Wow! What an incredibly in-depth review. Thanks for sharing. It's interesting that you mentioned that you were living in the tent for a year and 1/2. Some stores will keep them on display for a calendar year outside to prove how rigid they are. Many of the 10' x 10' sizes were sent to Haiti after the earthquake as part of the humanitarian relief project. The intention was that they would live in them for one year. However, we did not hear any feedback from anybody as to how they fared in Haitian weather. But, you mentioning monsoon weather with crazy fast wind gusts and all those details is extremely helpful. We appreciate you sharing that. We would love any photos or links to any videos feel free to share them in the comments. Regarding the stakes, most people love them. If you are camping in very rugged soil, especially clay, I've heard people use lag bolts with the driver. In those instances, they rarely use all of the stakes. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

      Still a lesser form of the original Springbar!I am not knocking Kodiak Canvas at all,but is what it is.Springbar has an economy line that is made with the 3/8 rope hem line,that KC is still lacking!KC just now brought out the steel anchor loops?Yet,foundation is still single point attachment!In other words,every stake is almost by itself!To be fair,I like KC!They can only go so far on the back of Springbar.They need to get over kill on the anchor setup/foundation arrangement,extra loops??!1/2”rope for hemline ?Any one?!

    I own both the four and six person versions (was fortunate to get them both at a deep discount). These are fantastic if you are driving up to your camp spot; I've used mine in conjunction with 4x4 camping. They're a great option if you have the space to carry a larger tent and are looking for something to camp comfortably with. As an aside, I use an ultra-lightweight one person backpacking tent for ultra distance motorcycle camping, so these are a real treat in comparison to my usual "sleeping bag with a roof". Definitely recommend Kodiak.

    I believe the No Seem-um netting gets its name because of the pest nick-named the No See-um. It's smaller than a mosquito so the mesh is woven more tightly in order to block these smaller pests. A major advantage I think!

      @Competitiveedgeproducts  Před 4 lety

      Yes, you are absolutely correct on that. If you haven't had the experience of those little flying pins hitting your neck, then you're lucky. But, that is true. I refer to it as no-see-um as if the window blends in, which is true, but that's not the reason it was named no-see-um mesh as you point out.

    I live in the north west high country. Rain, snow, wind during the winters. I do not have or use a stove in the tent. I have a brick hot box. Brick heated in camp fire. Ive used this system up outside Fairbanks AK at -60 f. Just need a tent with living space and that can stand up to and shed snow. Dry snow not wet. What ya think yours would doo. JMHO

    • @Competitiveedgeproducts
      @Competitiveedgeproducts  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I think these would work great. The smaller the tent (2-person, 4-person) the stronger they are since there is less surface area for wind to blow against and less roof surface area for snow to accumulate. As long as you make sure too much snow doesn't accumulate by knocking it off you should be good. They keep you dry for sure.

    Glad I watched this. I had pretty much decided on the 9' x 8', but after seeing the two person tent I think I might be able to get by with it. I'm a solo backpacker and car camper, but when I car camp I'd prefer to sleep off the ground in a cot. Looks like a cot will fit into the smaller tent just fine and still give me head room when lying down and also tall enough that I can put a lower profile camp chair inside to get away from bugs. The smaller tent will be easier for me to haul from the car and take up less real estate when I store it away. Thanks for comparing all the different versions.

    have the 10x14, had the awning rip during some high winds. Called Kodiak and they offered to reimburse me if I took it to a local tent shop to have the awning repaired, I agreed and got it fixed. It was around $100, called Kodiak back and sent them an invoice. I was told I'd have a check coming my way, never saw it and called them back. They keep beating around the bush about it and eventually I gave up, these tents are nice but if you ever have an issue good luck with that "warranty"

      brandon young that’s good info. How did the tent hold up in the wind? These tents and accessories are backed up by some really good warranties. @@Competitiveedgeproducts I wasn't taken care of, they kept giving me excuses as to why the check wasn't sent out. Honestly the tent held up well, it was in probably 75mph winds and the grommets for the awning ripped out.The wind kicked up while I was away from the tent and I was sure I'd come back to a destroyed tent.The great thing about this tent is anyone who is able to sew thick canvas can repair it, I took mine to Denver Tent Company. I'd still recommend the tent based on the ease of repair, honestly you aren't going to repair anything other than canvas so that's reason enough to buy something like this. Like I said, good stuff but the warranty is about as good as yesterdays news.

    Cool innovative tents, I'm from the UK & never seen one of your tents in the flesh, I've had many tents over the years but have now settled with a Danish company called outwell, they cater for all budgets, I've had an outwell troutlake for many many years whitch is polycotton and it's still awesome, I've also got an outwell niagrafalls and an outwell Yosemite falls which both are 100% cotton rip stop, the outwell niagrafalls & Yosemite falls are the best tents money can buy hear in the UK ( priced from $2000 to $3500) although outwell have stopped making them, we believe they stopped making the 100% ripstop tents as they literally last a life time, unfortunately outwell are now using cheaper parts and materials in there high end tents and are losing loyal customers to thrre competitors, which is cool as we all need to have a reason to try other companies gear. Take a look at the reviews for the outwell niagrafalls, Yosemite and Yellowstone tents, theres some great innovative hints and tips. Any way great video and I like the look of your tents, going to do a quick search to see if we have them in the UK.

    I was excited to see and hear your full review on this lineup but your audio was just to low and I was constantly straining to hear you so, I finally gave up. May I make a friendly suggestion for your future productions that I’m sure would be greatly appreciated by all of your viewers ?. Consider adding a wireless lavaliere/lapel mic to your production. There are many options available and you don’t have to break the bank in order to find a reasonably priced, very good performing setup. I purchased mine for just under $50 and couldn’t be happier with the improved level of good, clear audio as well as the operating range. Both exceeded my expectations. There are numerous reviews made by qualified individuals, some go extremely in depth, right here on CZcams. If not a lavaliere, please consider some type of option that will produce the same end result of improving your audio level. It’s a ton of hard work coming up with good content, shooting all the video, editing, editing and editing so that you can finally upload your final product to share with the rest of us and it’s a shame for it to suffer from poor audio when this could easily have been avoided. I thank you for taking the time to, and putting forth all the hard effort and work, to bring your viewers a quality review and I wish you continued success in your future productions.
    To you and your entire team, stay healthy, well, safe and happy.
