- I took a trip up to the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. I underestimated the hike that lay ahead and as always the weather forecast got it wrong. Strong Gale force winds tested my budget tent. My tiny tent and I were in for a rough night.

Fantastic camera work, expecially in those conditions.
Setting the shot, positioning the camera, taking the shot, retrieving the camera etc...
Editing the videos as well as working your day job and looking after your family...
To have such great and really enjoyable videos to watch after knowing what it takes and how much you go through to make them is definitely appreciated!

Class to see you up this neck of the woods Jason, you got some crackin views above the clouds. Good call on taking your time mate, wouldn’t say you made any mistakes, you made choices and adapted accordingly. So what if you had to walk in the dark for a bit, you have all the gear, and it makes for great memories. Binnian had got to be one of the busiest spots in the Mournes, not surprising you had to collect so much rubbish!! Loved the shots of the tent at night, that camera really does shine in the low light. Give us a shout if you ever fancy coming back, I’ll bring the chocolate digestives 🍪
Binnian is an impressive mountain, going down the other side was an experience in itself 😄 It was a great camp and once I got the tent set up I was happy out. I have no idea when but I'll definitely be back up the Mournes. Everyone is mentioning the biscuits, I'm going to have to improve things in that department 😄

Windiest night I ever had in a tent and the only time I’ve camped in snow with lightning was in an Argos tiger paws one man tent and a Tesco sleeping bag , candle lantern and Trangia stove saved my bacon that night , when we look back on things we’ve done and survived it reminds us that we have lived , you’ll look back on this and chuckle.
😯 I'd say that as an interesting experience to say the least 😄 Fair play for getting through it and I only ordered a candle lantern the other day so I can't wait to use it 🔥

Good man Jason, The Mournes are definitely my favourite mountain range. The views are stunning no matter where you are. Its just a pity they are a few hours drive away! Looking forward to the next one 😎👍

That is an immense view. If nothing else that must be worth it. Really need to make one of those insulating pouches...
Once I had the tent sorted it was all worth it and those pouches are really handy to make, definitely give it a go. I used the Foil camping mats and duct tape
Knowing my luck had I went out in that storm I'd be blown away with me inside the tent and all. :D

Fab you got to experience the lovely Mournes Jason! The little Lanshan did so well 🏆 The views from the top of Binnian really are spectacular, such a great trip to see what the Mournes are all about. No doubt you’ll be back to walk some more fabulous routes. Looked a great night away and blew away any cobwebs no doubt! 😊
I reckon I'll need a multi day trip up to do the job right 😄 The little lanshan was the best tent I could have brought to be fair.

I could not agree more, it was tough hiking. I was delighted to find that sliver of flat ground, next time I'm possibly be heading for Ben Crom so cheers for that 👍🍀

Brilliant seeing you up in the Mournes. Looked like you were mountain climbing than hiking. A lot of the Mourne wall has some really steep parts. I like the look of the fire maple. Cheaper version of the jetboil.
😄 I may as well have been climbing a cliff. The Mourne wall is spectacular, defies belief in some parts. I'm hoping to do a little video on that stove, I wanted to see what it's capable of because if it can do more than just boil water then it might be a nice stove for people starting out. The Jetboil zip from want I have heard is pretty much just an expensive kettle but I haven't tried it. Comparing the two would be interesting
If it has the pot support you can bring a pan and do a proper gourmet meal😂. Can't wait for that😉

I bought the Lanshan 1 Pro version of Flame's Creed on 11.11 for only €112. I have not yet sealed it or released it waiting for the new spring season in Spain, but I think it seems like one of the best purchases you can make if you are patient with the prices. Jason, I wish you a happy new year full of adventures.
Patience can save you a lot of money. I bought mine second hand, at first I wasn't sure about it but now I really do love that little tent. It's solid in the wind, lightweight, and it looks good too. Brilliant video Jason! Just brilliant. So good to see you in the Mournes. So pleased that you enjoyed the experience. Youre right it is a beautiful set of mountains. Binnian is a decent climb on a good day but that route was tough lad. Its also a busy spot. Had the weather been better you may have had a crowd with you for breakfast. Please, please come back and do more. Would be great to get your take on some of the other trails and mountains.
I'm delighted I made it up that way. Such a stunning landscape and that little sliver of flat ground served me well for the night. I'll give myself plenty of time the next time I go, there is some serious hiking in the Mournes. I won't be taking it so lightly next time

Loved the video Jason. Well done. Those steep ones can really take it out of you and put a lot of pressure on areas where the body may not be 100%, like my one, LOL. When the knees and back are not the best, you must take care of them as best as you can and slow down, take your time. It's not a race after all. You did a great job on this video. Well done again...

Man that tent took some battering! 😱 I've been to the Mournes twice now and was lucky to have great weather both times. It's definitely worth going back but saying that you did get some great views at times 👌 I'm far from a Mournes expert but even to my eye you definitely seemed on a path less travelled 🤣
That is one great little tent for the wind, tiny foot print and extremely light. It has it's draw backs but I do love it. I took a path that even the sheep wouldn't take 😄 I'll be better prepared for the next one
The promo at the beginning of this post, were you mimick a conversation.."how do u spend ur days off.." Reminds me of that scene in Die Hard, where Bruce Willis is hiding from the robbers in the air vents, with his lighter. Using that similar sarcastic mimicry.."Come out to the coast, we'll hav a few laughs!"
A great post Jason, this was complete fun. Though u kept berating urself, but it's not clear 2me why? I don't think u made any real mistakes. U certainly didn't make an ejyut out of urself. What do u think u did wrong, I'm curious?
There's nothing wrong with trying new paths, it's just exploring. When ur backpacking, as u know, u've got everything u need in ur pack, so it doesn't matter if u get a bit lost..haha!

The weather on the 1st day didn't look like it was ideal to be out in; but didn't it photograph beautifully. Especially wen u wer getting water from the lake/tarn. Then mor so wen u got above the clouds.
And whilst wer talking photography, those night skies and shooting stars were stunning. Is that a different camera from ur usual 1?
As usual, ther wer some comedy classics in this 1..haha! The best 1, in my humble opinion, was telling us how well the tent had felt with condensation. Next shot, Xboil (camo1..🤩) pumping out steam, that condensed on the inside of the fly..I nearly wet myself..haha!
I also like how during wet, and very blustery weather, instead of bringing ur helm1 compact, or that other tent, I 4get wat it's called..sumthin beginning with..H. that uv just spent a fortune on.
U instead bring 1of ur most flimsy tents, a trekking pole tent!? That's almost like bringing a knife to a gunfight..haha!

I think that I mainly felt that I had really underestimated the hike, I thought I had given it plenty of time but evidently I didn't. I also had some issues with one of my cameras that I didn't mention but that was playing on my mind too so I would imagine that had something to do with it. I have since bought a new camera so if I had that on the day you would have seen more of the hike and how brutal it was 😄
I'm hoping to do a little video on that stove just to see what it can actually do. I agreed to test it out because I thought some of my viewers might enjoy a proper look at it, that video should be interesting.
To be fair that little lanshan was the best tent for the job. Tiny pack size, extremely light, great in the wind and a tiny footprint which meant more options to find a pitch. Happy days, plus the weather wasn't suppose to get windy until 7am the following morning 😂

Hello mate. Legend getting out there in those conditions. I like pushing the lightweight gear as well. Been catching up on your vids and noticed you have both the Lanshan pro 1 and Xmd. I have the LP1 but thinking of the xmid for more headroom, simplicity and less flapping. Had the LP1 out in all sorts so I know it holds up. What's your thoughts on both? Cheers and hope the backs feeling good after the other days venture out.
Hey Danny, for headroom and space inside the Xmid wins hands down. It's good in the wind, sil poly means that the fabric doesn't stretch when wet, which is fantastic and it doesn't weigh much more than the lanshan pro1.
Saying that I did have the Xmid packed for this camp but decided last minute to bring the lanshan.
If I can I'll do a video comparing them so that I can explain it better for you. Both are great tents but have their own pros and cons.
My back is getting stronger everyday, just have to keep at it. Thanks for checking in🍀
