A true Napolitan gem is what he is. I remember being a kid when Italy won the cup in 06 and this guy played a huge part of it. I'm from Cuba, so in Havana I was amazed to see so many not only Italian fans, but many Italian nationals who were settled here going wild in the streets with caravans and chanting and full out pure joy.

Paolo Maldini, Fabio Canavarro and Alessandro Nesta are the three Greatest Defenders I have ever seen in Football. These 3 made defending an art form without making it ugly.

Yeah. When I was playing at a high enough level as a center back, I became very aware of my height (1.78) and how it affected me and the team, being the shortest centerback in the squad. However I began watching videos of cannavero before every match and remembered that it's possible to win headers over 1.85 guys and that putting my heart and everything there is into the duel and full match, I would be invincible that match as Cannavaro was. Well it bares mentioning that is also helped the anxiety I felt before every match. On an ending note, I sincerely hope that alot of young defenders find inspiration in defenders like Cannavaro, Puyol, Maldini and the likes, because they always went Into every duel as if it were the last.

Man, funny how people say bad things about Materazzi becauqe of stupid Zidane, the guy was elected defender of the year in Italy, the dream of any defender. I am French-Italian, Zidane is a champion, but overrated, without a team defending and fighting for.him he would have never done what he did in 1998 and 2006.
Look at the players he’s defending. Adriano, Zidane, Henry, Klose. These guys are monsters infront of goal and he made defending against them look easy when its not even close.
