The thumbnail for this video looks like a time capsule from the 90's, and I'm here for it.
If Peter Zeihan is correct, shorter supply chains, localized produce and production then this had other potential ramifications. Some of his statements: inflation, baby boomers retiring, reduction of younger workers to fill jobs across many developed countries to include China and India, and potential lose of globalization. With reduction of workers will reduce pollution, assumption retirees pollute less, shorter supply chains reduction in energy consumption and waste, localized companies will have to find better methods for managing waste/pollution, who wants to live in a garbage dump, famine could equate to a moderate drop in population, war the same.
These issues seem to point to less pollution and significantly more smaller localized produce.

This interviewer is outstanding…I’ve listened to many people ask questions to Peter on many different lectures, podcasts, etc…and this lady is asking questions and exploring directions that I’ve wanted to ask…it’s well done.
When Kissinger and Nixon engineered the opening to China, it was assumed that China would liberalize, but it never happened.
A person could easily do a whole college course spinning out from this interview. Excellent interview.
Or a clear understanding of why college's have regulated themselves to the dumpster useless institutions
I'm fascinated by this guy. His thinking can be careless, and his logic sketchy and flawed, but he gets it right often enough. He is great at communicating and condensing complex issues. His energy is positive. He's not trying to bum listeners out, unlike a lot of journalists, experts, pundits, and others these days. He is not as boring as most others are.

After discovering him during a Rogan podcast, I concur. He has such a great flow. Continuous but not overwhelming.
You say he has got it right often enough. This is the first I have ever heard of him , and this is the first time I’ve heard this detailed prediction for china. I was hooked. But then I wondered if there is documentation of him getting anything right. Do you know of any time he nailed a prediction?
Climate change alarmist. Never badmouths any big names in the Fed/gov't. How is that possible? He's big on signal intelligence, himself - he's playing for team Pentagon and loves to hear himself talk..
@@brady3474 the 2008 collapse. that made him famous. he has like hundreds of 1hr presentations before it and also in the 2010s where he predicts ukraine. in all of these examples he really just observes macro trends so it’s not predicting. it’s just saying “china has no ppl, so it collapses soon”
I’ll give it to Peter Zeihan- he’s been preaching this same narrative for about a decade now. He’s certainly intelligent, and I agree with majority of his perspectives, but I think some of his messages are spoken in terms that are too absolute and don’t allow for alternative potential scenarios. We’ll just have to see how the future unfolds!
I'm very confident that none of Zeihan's predictions will come true.

Events might not be so straightforward as he is describing. But we can anticipate the general trend he's describing, just based on the limitations of resources and demographics. These things have inevitable consequences.
If you’re selling seminars and books, saying “things might go this way, but on the other hand it may go that way, but I’m not really sure!?”. Yeah, that would sell!🤣

Absolutely. You have young excited reporters who go into the field because they want to uncover truth and report on hard hitting news. When they see how lucrative it is to go with the status quo, or the alternative is they are shuffled off to a middle of the cornfield news station,(if they don’t go along with them). They become the very people that they set out to investigate.
It also takes brains to internalize all this information and draw logical conclusions, something 99% of today’s media personnel lack.

Peter is blaming inflation on china?! the u.s printed 3 trillion dollars during 2020 to help stay at home unemployed Americans during lockdown. It sanctioned and put tariff on chinese goods, effectively raising prices on common household items. And Peter blames CHINA?!
@@ruoyuli4091 he talking about inflation on a global scale and how the decisions the CCP has made on the Globl Markets has effected not only the wolrd markets but also the US Markets and yes pumping 3 trillion into the economy has contributed to our inflation but that has only been made worse but a government that has made bad decisions for a country and its economy that 4X bigger than ours. So yes 3 trillion is one thing but China mistakes are magnified when its 4X times bigger than it main rival.
Yup, globalization has been great for everyone except the American worker, who has seen millions of their jobs shipped overseas so the 1% could get richer.
I'd argue it's been great for the top 33%, with an exponential increase as an individual's/family's wealth increases on the curve. If you make over 100k, even in wealthier areas in the US, you've been able to purchase all the high quality goods you need, enjoy expensive services, and benefited from the financial market boom over the last 30 years. I'm now in a high earning percentile, too bad I finally have money to invest and am entering what could be a long dark winter. I sure hope Zeihan is wrong on the severity of things...

Globalization has been great for everyone, including the American worker, but simply less so than for the upper classes. Even the poorest Americans have an income exponentially larger than the global worker class. Think about it: would you have more purchasing power waiting tables in America or assembling iPhones in China? I hope the answer is obvious.
This is where he underestimates the trend.
So, now that we are into Q4, world cereal production is set to be the highest ever, this contradicts Peter’s forecast.
Gain and fuel prices are fine, low even.
The Russians didn't lose their pipelines.
Peter makes these big predictions based on nothing being done to avoid the impending doom. Then people take action and the problem is avoided and the predictions fail to come true.
This interview is hypnotic. I have never listened to this kind of stuff in the past. But at 58 I am learning so much listening to Peter. Also this host really knows her stuff. Thanks!😎😎😎

I follow Peter and have seen a lot of interviews. This interview was on of the very best. The interviewer was outstanding, bravo.
But, not even one thing he said about China is true. With people like this guy brainwashing its people, China can "sit back and relax".
he speaks through the lens of white supremacy. Subtle but nontheless obvious when he references global order as European western order. and the rest to the world follows.

Future America at the macro level looks like it will be okay. At the meso level, I wonder. A white minority USA with wealth concentrated in walled compounds with private security forces... because there are other aspects of demographics that a respectable academic can’t discuss.

I’m a professor of management and these interviews make me feel uniformed! Great interview questions. Really impressed.
This is by far the best (of 15) interviews I have listened to with Peter, due to Maggie's intelligence, knowledge of global markets, and ability to quickly assimilate information, play it back and challenge Peter on the implications of his hypothesis. Awesome! However, where is the interview that says Peter is dead wrong and that the world is not about to completely break down and tens of millions begin to starve, governments fall, and geopolitical risks explode? Finally, how does one invest to come out ahead in the coming environment? When is Raoul Paul going to talk with Peter - I would have thought this topic is the most important one for investors in the next two years?
I would have liked to hear Zeihans thoughts on the possibility of a digital currency and the idiotic push by some countries like Holland to decimate their farming industry in a time of global food shortages!

This guy is so sure and such an absolutist. Anyone so sure of such intricate issues is a quack to me.
Totally agree. 53:39 is the primary shill reveal presentation point is 1 min long. Clueless. Deliberate failure to not interject to correct the interviewer that mRNA is only used in agriculture because the lifespan of animals is short. Keeping the animals healthy until their prime harvest for profit margin is reached is purely a death for profit business component. The animals will all die because of ADE if left to live even their full short comparative lifespan. i.e. Marek's Disease. Peter has completely ignored human testing (lack of), to purposely abide by his master's (supposed) extinction plan. < all IMO
A great guest, Peter is an incredible source of information and insight. This channel has SO many ads it's distracting to watch.

Awesome interview
Most logical, and defined recognition of the current events, and great forecastinting i have ever heard! Well done, ill buy the book!
Peter Zeihan is incredibly erudite and intelligent. I have immense regard for him and his tireless efforts at educating curious viewers to past, present and future global history. However, as is the case with many intelligent people who make bold, attention-getting predictions, they usually have a blind spot. IF his predictions fail to prove out over the coming decades, and I say if, I would argue that the blind spot that caused it was in extrapolating too heavily from the past what the future will be, based on a calculation of how an expected shift in geopolitical and demographic conditions would have effected that PAST. In other words, the blind spot is not weighting heavily enough that the future is going to be too unpredictable, with innumerable unforeseeable and transformational events and developments. "Peering around the corner" of the advent of strong AI, or advanced gene therapy, or the fruition of the digital revolution is incredibly challenging. And those are known unknowns. What of the unknown unknowns?
Of course, you can counter that all any historian or analyst can ever do is base their predictions on known knowns and known unknowns. Completely true. My point is that Zeihan tends to imbue his prognostications with an unquestionable, gospel-like quality. His framework gives a helpful starting place for how to think about geopolitics over the next half century. The mistake would be to take all these bold, dire predictions too literally.
He spoke confidently and sound intelligent but does NOT mean he is right.

I would think a blindspot is what would make things unpredictable rather than identical with the idea of things being unpredictable. Both? Interesting points/thought food.
You nailed it. I have the same criticism of him. I think what he underestimates is human ingenuity in times of desperation, and technological breakthroughs. We are in an era where automation may step up to assist with demographic crises at an unprecedented scale. Perhaps just in time. That said Peter offers an amazing perspective and the way he thinks about the world is fascinating. It will be interesting to see what he gets right and wrong over this next decade.

You are correct. Zeihan is more right than wrong. I've noticed also that when he is wrong (usually about something trivial) he will correct it subsequently. Also, when time passes and a prediction he made is wrong, the prediction was logical, and one of the players may have taken Zeihan's advice to heart and managed to change the predicted outcome.

This is a great conversation-so illuminating that I actually shared it not only with friends but my whole faculty here in Thailand. Great interview. You pulled a ton out of Peter. On that end, how does Peter know so much? Feel like others are so much more narrowly informed. How does one get that much "true" (real) information at the levels of industries he talks about...
I just found out about him 2 hours ago by watching a speech from him 7 years ago and 100% of all his predictions came true these past few years it's insane huh. Glad I found him. Going to binge watch him today. Any best videos you love please let me know. Cheers
He reads, analyzes and postulates. While a lot of what he says does make intelligent sense there is not a way to ever fully predict the future. Factors could change that affect some of his analysis but he’s definitely a great speaker and postulator. I think there have always been the world is nigh type people. The one thing he doesn’t rely on is the capabilities for human response and innovation. If countries he mentions struggle and start falling as he suggests one would hope people would find ways to adapt and overcome so the doom and gloom this man predicts may not quite unfold as he predicts. Remember he is predicting based on numbers and analysis. That is never a perfect science. I find him very thought provoking but the hopelessness he indicates for humanity seems destructive and I have more faith in humanity than that.
Zeihan has also mentioned having a team that helps him collect information. He's not just a one-man-band. I'm not sure who's paying him for all of this, or whether his book sales are enough to fund the whole enterprise.
He has said that he gets a lot of information in the process of preparing presentations for his clients, who explain their perspectives to get the most out of his.

This episode is very short sighted as is Zeihan. We operated the most efficient and prosperous nation in human history when our population was 175-200 million less in America. Om top billions of jobs will be reduced by software automation, robotics, A.I....etc in a time of de-globalization where the 8 billion shortly will be fighting over resources. The transition to lower population will be hard but we need to reduce the population of the working class by at least 70-80% and all the elite/rich/higher paid government wokrwr families by 99.99%. Strict child control policy should be implemented on the upper strata where only 1 in a million families should be allowed to have children, all the other families should have forced tubal ligation among this wealtheir and even upper level government families. For the other 99.99% of the population, no more than 1% of families should be allowed to have 2 children maximum then tubal ligation should be done. Otherwise expect a dystopian nightmare you cannot imagine.

This is the best intro of Zeihan's theory of the last 70 years of globalization & what happens in the next 5-10.The interview is about a year ago just as his recent book was being published
