You can’t leave Virginia out of this conversation. Loved it though. Great job surprised I’m just seeing this
I want to thank Toni "I am South Carolina" for blessing my family tree!
This was EVERYTHING! so much great information. I have been researching since 1998. South Carolina walls have kept me at a hault. THANK YOU!!!
Please put the links up for North Carolina and also where can I find the news papers
My father's family is from Anson County ,NC. The Carpenter and Davis families are his ancestors.
church records as a MAJOR source of familial connections is amazing to me. Gives me hope to find out connections I thought might have been lost. Forgive me, I am new to this. But it is amazing and makes me hopeful!
You can do it! You can do it! Keep us posted about what you find.
I’m in Detroit my family migrated from South Carolina and Louisiana how would I get a hold of church records
Me too my ancestor JOHN MCCRAY wife Hagen Hemmingway McCray from 1830 was a founding member of Salem AME Church in Busckport SC
This broadcast was phenomenal!!! I am watching BlackProGen Lives. The information in these videos is messing with my sleep schedule!! I have to slow down and watch them a few times while I take notes to ensure that I don't miss anything. I am hooked!! Sleep? Who needs to sleep?
You all definitely had a great time tonight . . . KUDOS to you all!
Thanks LIVVY!!!!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. My family is from Smithfield, NC so I learned some great new resources to look up. Touching on the topic of Georgetown was great for me as I receive various email updates about what is going on and several calls for feedback or joining the working group. I will submit the suggestions that you all spoke about here. I especially like the comment, what about those descendants who chose not to come to Georgetown. I have been wanting to submit something but my only contribution has been the same as James' "Show me the money" but this is great!! Thank you all.
+Nicka Sewell-Smith There were so many resources it made my head spin. Lol! I have your website up now looking for them. Lol!!
I certainly will. I work there.
Thank You for stopping over. This is exciting.
I live in Smithfield, NC also. My ancestors on my mother's side lived in the Cleveland area. Their surnames were Hodges, Sanders , Barbour, Turner. Are any of these names in your family?
Antonia Howell Hi!! 🙋🏽♀️ I’m always so delighted to see when people are from Smithfield. My Uncle and Cousin are still there along with I’m sure many extended cousins. I do actually have Sanders in my family!! lol! I believe they are from my maternal Great Grandfather’s side of the family, he is a Hines but they could also be from my Great Grandmother’s side who is a Whitley. I just know that I certainly have a lot of Sanders cousins down there. Would be crazy if we were related. lol!
My daddy told me we were Indians but don’t know what tribe on the Thomas side I’m on the Clark and Richardson side as well
Thank ya'll! Very informative.
NC records are very detailed
Researching Red Shoals Plantation in Stokes Co NC .
Fascinating!!!
HAVEN'T HEARD THAT TERM IN A LONG TIME. CPT🤣
I keep noticing something occurring from 1830 to 1850 Census in families in our area, there seems to be large increase in the population of the slaves on rural farms. Example; SC Rural back woods farmer owns 10 slaves in 1830 then in 1840 he owns 56 slaves. How does someone acquire that many slaves in 10 yrs? What happened in that time period that caused such a shift?
BlackProGen Live is awesome.
Surnames that I’m working with are
Mothers side- Singleton, Brown, English, Porcher, Crosson etc.
Father- Rainey, Champion, Taylor, Thompson, Kelly.
Need South Carolina research help
You still researching? My fathers side of family last name Brown from Florence
keep up the good work...what's the/your new twitter?
Born in NC, raised in SC. I made it to the 1870 census, now whAt? 😂😂
Sherman didn't care if he burned the courthouses, which means he didn't care if he burned History.
Dang I missed it this where my folk are from.
HOw much do you guys charge to do the genealogy thing? Ive done most of the work already. I hit a wall. Not because there is a real wall, but the courthouse in SC burnt down in 1820.
The links used need in the pinned comment section or the video description please!
Ms smith im from Mississippi born but have Saponi and Tuscarora roots i really need help with my lines😢please! IN. North Carolina South Carolina etc
I am researching family in Franklin County that merged into Vance County. And I cannot find parents or marriage or cohabitation records for either of my second great grandparents. Surnames Jeffries and Harris. And for some reason every Harris on my tree, I cannot find parents or most any other information accept for one family. Why is that?
hi, where do we find out more about ancestry makers?
23&Me
Lol...number 5...i swear I'm related yo Jojo and KC...😂
LOL!!!! You might be if you're from where they are in NC!
I have the name of cemetery where my grandmother was buried. Called the church several times. No one did not answered. I finally got thru with a member of the church. He could not find anything about my grandmother. He had checked with others but no information. He was rude. This is strange thing my grandmother was buried at his church cemetery. If you ck find a grave website my grandmother name is mentioned at his church. It mentioned my grandfather name and her husband that she was married to at time of her death. I can give you the row number.
Put your Grandma's name🎉!
What is the name of the book(referenced 38:10) and the author about Colored Confederate Soldiers Pensioners in South Carolina? i want to buy one
Searching for Black Confederates: The Civil War’s Most Persistent Myth by Kevin M.Levin - amzn.to/3rvILgt
@@whoisnickasmith thanks, I miss understood I thought she said "SC Black Men that received pensions from the Civil War."
Is it possible that there were Native Americans living in North Carolina around the early 1900's? My grandmother said she was Blackfoot Indian and she was born in Asheville, Buncombe, NC.
I encourage you to research the history of the community where your ancestors lived. That part of NC in the 1700s was hunting ground for some tribes, but by the 1900s, traditional native communities where long removed. However, I suggest that you begin to actually research the family history. There is much to be found on Buncombe County NC, and you should find your family well documented there. Best wishes in the search.
Thank you very much. Have a good, cool day!! God bless!!
I don't think that you realize that calling yourself NATIVE is a legal term meaning SERVITUDE. Blackfoot Indians are the Original Americans aka American Aborigines, American Indians, Autochthonous American, and Indigenous To America previously known as Turtle Indland. Also, Native Americans are your mix of Mongoloids and European Caucasians who are not Indigenous to America. Please do your due diligence with your research!
Peace and Light!
@@serenadexter5741that Native comment is fallacious. Some archaic and no longer used connotation of the word “native” is irrelevant. There were no Blackfoot Indians in North Carolina!! And the blacks from The Carolinas descend from the TAST.
@@kudjoeadkins-battle2502 TAST?

Is anyone is this group doing Indian genealogy?
Hi LaSha. If you're referring to genealogy for the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek (Muscogee), and Seminole) along with other indigenous groups, yes, we do. Me and Angela Walton-Raji.
Yes James, show me the money!!! Lol it has and always will be about economics, in this country, but somehow our people should settle for warm and fuzzies...nope.
First of all I’m not African American I am an American
Why are you here?
Good for you. Your ancestors must be so proud you're denying your heritage 🙄😒🙄 -
@@nailahdawkins you are so lost everybody doesn't come from Africa if you do good for you I don't
Nobody asked you.. Nobody cares.
I heard Black People in South Carolina can trace their roots to Africa?
All of us (African Americans) can. The vast majority of slaves came from the rice coast/Mali empire, mainly of mende descent. Which Is why culturally, we are very similar to the people in Sierra Leone, Mali, Liberia, and senagambia. The Mali empire was located in that region.
They even still play blues in northern mali.
K1llahB33 I can't trace my ancestors from Africa. My family are from Mississippi and Louisiana. Nobody knows where in Africa we came from.
@@Afrocentric85 we come from the rice Coast. There may be other groups in our ancestry, but most of our ancestors come from that region. And we're mainly of mandinka/mende descent.
That we don't know where we come from stuff is a myth. All of our top Scholars like John Henrik Clarke and dr. Ben have pointed out our Mali empire roots. The powers that be just wont add it to the school curriculum, to make our people keep thinking they're just descendants of slaves.
Slave Traders especially the Portuguese and the French kept extremely detailed journals, with list of the different ethnic groups that they sold and where they were sent. Most transatlantic slave trade historians have read these.
@@Afrocentric85your family from Mississippi and New Orleans descend from Africans sold from Virginia Maryland and The Carolinas after 1808. Mississippi wasn’t founded until 1817 Louisiana 1802.
@@thebee9853were also from Angola, and the Bight of Biafra, Nigeria as well. South Carolina at a time did purposely import people from the Rice Coast
Peace and love sister I love your your work I love to follow you but it's one time a couple of times you have a guest and the energy is not good with him so it's offensive so it pushes me away from watching your video I look for the videos that doesn't have this individual in it. (Non-masculent)
