    I remember this game. The local Kansas City Sports radio show was hosted by Kevin Keitzman a HUGE K State guy. They were having a bowl watch party. I walked in with my Purdue sweater on. I caught so much crap. But at the end of the game everyone was buying me shots and I became a regular caller to his radio show. They named me Boilermaker Bob every time I called in lol

    You can just tell Kansas State didn't wanna be there. Not only did their national title game slip away in the Big 12 title, but they got sent to an irrelevant bowl game instead of a BCS bowl game. Hell i wouldn't give a dam about the game either.

      Are we sure they would have wanted to be there even if they were in the Holiday or Cotton Bowls?

      @@chrisuncleahmad Its usually BCS or bust. If you are in position to make it in the last regular season game and blow it, then that loss lingers into bowl season usually. Alabama did it twice in 2008 and 2013 and lost. Michigan in 2006 etc. Its not like that with every team, but you just don't have that drive when you miss the title game and it shows.

    Disgrace that KSU was even in this bowl game. You could tell they just weren't up for it. Should have for sure been in a BCS bowl after going 12-1. Heck, there was even a rule named "The Kansas State Rule" to make sure that no team ever gets screwed as bad as K-State did again.

    • @randydubin7118
      @randydubin7118 Před 7 lety +1

      aidan2110 Out of conference strength of schedule was the determining factor in KSU not getting a BCS Bowl Bid. Oh, and BTW, Strength of Schedule was not removed from the BCS formula until the 2001 season, so, technically, it should be called "The Nebraska Rule". 😉

    Clearly they shouldn't have felt that Purdue was beneath them. They may have deserved to go to a BCS bowl, but if they're going to lose in a "lesser" bowl, then it doesn't really prove their point of having been screwed. Anyway, good luck to your KSU team this year in the tostitos bowl, should be an exciting game to watch.

  • @lindseysummers5351

    It was crazy to me that Kansas State, one of the most complete teams in 1998, was a few plays away from playing for the National Championship. Instead, they were passed over by the BCS, passed over for the Cotton Bowl, and passed over for the Holiday Bowl. Ridiculous!!
    Now, what was just as ridiculous is how Bill Snyder had his team unprepared mentally for this game. This game should have looked a lot like the 2000 Alamo Bowl or the 1991 Cotton Bowl in terms of butt kickings. You want to show how angry you are at being snubbed the way you were? Take your frustrations out on your lesser opponent. Kick their asses and leave them begging for mercy. Playing lackadaisical like they did and whining, "Oh, poor me!" isn't proving anything to anyone.

      After that a.m. los we were about to head back to Manhattan from St Louis airport and DeAndre Robinson said "man we are going to the Alamo bowl... I'm like "NO WAY DUDE WE WERE #1 BEFORE THIS LOSS. Sure enough Sunday night our hearts fall with that exact announcement..🤢🤮 Snyder had the NERVE to agree on the Alamo bowl invitation before our Monday meeting..He was suppose to consult with the seniors before making a decision. If Stoops or Venables were the head coach instead of just defensive coordinators we would have won the national championship easily.. We would've had destroyed Tennessee in the national championship.

    • @bartscanland9415
      @bartscanland9415 Před rokem +1

      When considering the lackadaisical preparation, what you should also take into account is that several (at least 3) of Snyder's coaches had already decided to jump ship (prior to the B12 Championship) to be with Bob Stoops at OU. If it weren't for the Bob Stoops hire, K-State would probably have played in 5 National Championships between 1998 and 2003.
      It's absolutely gut wrenching watching this video and seeing the numerous miscues knowing that this team was a powder keg ready to explode.

    Lemme take a wild guess - that was the Alamo Bowl record for # of possessions. Purdue must have been close for # of dropped passes.
    The zebras blew it on the punt "touchdown" - either the guy was down at the one or he illegally batted the ball into the end zone.
    Hasn't the rule changed? - on the personal foul (never seen) on the TD, KS did not have the option to take the yardage on the ensuing kickoff.

    And as they should have. They worked their ass off all season to finally lose in double-over time in the Big 12 Title, after going undefeated until then just to be put in some middle of the road bowl. How about 2003 when K-State destroyed #1 Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title 35-7 and Oklahoma not only still gets to go to a BCS game, but they go to the NATIONAL TITLE game.

      @@alexkain8564 you're right about there being worse things, giving away the Big 12 Championship game for starters. Truly sickening to watch this game with the numerous penalties and turnovers (very atypical) for this squad, and seeing all the talent and speed assembled.
      At the time K-State was extremely good from 1997 to 2003, now in hindsight what could have been had Snyder not had to replace his coaches (and watch OU benefit from them) every 2 years, the potential to have been an exceptional dynasty existed. That's the pain that you probably can't comprehend from just this one game.
