- Described as a Panopticon, this sculpture commands spectacular views above Burnley from Crown Point. It creates an eerie, unearthly music as the wind whistles through the steel tubes. This strange sound increases at sunrise when the wind becomes more intense. It is one of the few sculptures to have won a Royal Institute of British Architects award. The Singing Ringing Tree was designed by Tonkin Liu Architects www.tonkinliu.co.uk. This video was created by Jonathan Brind www.baa.me.uk/ For location see see www.burnley.gov.uk/site/script...
There are a number of vids of this sculpture, but this one is by FAR the best. Well done!
Near my house there is an old road--once a wagon path--running along a river. At the lowest point in the road, where it floods for several months each year, there are three giant culverts to drain the water off the nearby hills into the adjacent river. During dry periods, the wind swoops down through the valley and flows through those huge pipes to create loud, eerie sounds. The locals call them "the whistlers" and they sound very much like this. I am amazed at how sound travels through hollows and I Imagine a lot of mysterious "ghostly sounds" could be explained by these natural and man-made phenomena if someone were to trace them to their source.
Visited yesterday.. It's an amazing structure x
this sounds similar to frequencies made by planets in our solar system.
This is really awesome... It's in Lancashire, England
Imagine this thing in the windiest place on Earth.
This is a phenomenal video of this sculpture I've only just learnt about 😮 The sound is primordial, astounding, disturbing, phenomenal ❤
thanks you are too kind!
They could really utilize the sounds this tree makes in a movie or on a record or something!
Of the many videos of this sculpture yours is the one I always end up back at due to the better recording and more interesting camera work and footage.
That's kind of creepy - as if it amplifies the voices of lost souls carried on the wind.
pbjazz NO.
Yes❗That.
Hauntingly Beautiful !
I guess you like music
Like that one episode when SpongeBob let's the wind blow through his spongeholes/craters. 👈😎
yeah! 😂😂😂
The hash pinging the hash mingling THE HASH SLINGING SLASHER!
@@TsovoaLevone Brilliant.
The audio is from The Singing Ringing Tree, but not synchronous with the video. The video was shot over an hour and then speeded up. The audio runs at normal speed.
1:11 comet in the sky, 1:35 too
RAzOR play airplanes
C'est une splendide sculpture musicale merveilleusement filmée. Le vent voyageur que l'on entend semble revenir des mers de l'espace.
Beautiful!
This place itself is beautiful. Awesome stuff
When all of man dies, when all animals are gone, when trees are dead and life has ended on earth, this will be the last thing making any sounds on a dead planet that once held such beauty.
Awesome sculpture and cool video.
I'm putting this on my list of things to see when I travel to the UK next year.
Awwwww I want to give it a big hug 🤗 I ❤️🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
wow what a good vid you get to see the tree and a sunset
The tree and its moorish howl is rife with shades of Wuthering Heights.
In all, most provocatively unsettling.
Just stop.
Ryan Williamson lol I've wanted to build one that was much more pleasant to the ear. I'm just not that talented.
this Sculpture is Art Jim Commisioned by a forward thinking Burnley Council. the location is at Crown Point, on the moorland overlooking Burnley.Pendle Hill.
The genious architector...
Jonathan, your creativity and imagination is spectacular. Sound healing at it's finest. To give voice to the wind in this way is truly a gift, and I know Mother Earth is honored to have this awesome creation upon Her! I hear these sounds in my Soul. I am touched and grateful for your inspiration.
It´s a bunch of tubes that make sound when the wind blows. Nice sculpture.
I love it!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well impressed Jonathan. The time lapse works extremely well with the tree in fine voice.
Hugh the Railmon
Great video of the Tree. It wasn't singing when we went there today, but I definitely want to revisit. Going at dusk or dawn, as seen in this vid, looks like a pretty cool thing to do!
wow I love it
THE HASH SLINGING SLASHER!
Fabulously shot. Especially the dramatic close-up at 1:21.
Those are aircraft passing over and leaving contrails. As the video is slightly speeded up, it just looks odd seeing the planes move even faster than normal!
Thunder~All the right noises
Muito loko! Adorei esse som!!!!
Remind of the spongebob episode where spongebobs hole make noise by wind and attracts jellyfish
It certainly would. There's a highway in ID I drive where when I pass over certain sections, it makes a unsettling noise. I've thought to note that as a possible use in audio for a book I've written I want converted into a movie. A sound people have heard, and therefore would be going .. 'Damn, I've heard this!'
When all of humanity has disappeared, and the world has finally gone dark and silent, will this still be there, playing the ghostly wail of centuries over and over again?
I want one in every major city, and I want it to move every night, so nobody will know where it will be.
They should make it so it spins around in the wind, that would be cool.
The sound of a thousand tortured souls, tormented for all eternity...
So this would be the offspring of the 'ghosts of Sherwood' and the wind chimes from druids long passed?
Not many people pass by at any time. The only way to get there is a single path and the only place the path goes is to the Panopticon. However, it's certainly spooky if you get there just before dawn!
Different sized pipes, shapes and thicknesses as well as lengths and movement would make cool noises.
Oh cool !!!
I went to it today!
1:09 and 2:25 - falling stars :) amazing!
2:25 its so long
Very soothing. Much better than the crappy Angel of the North that we ended up with
I did some research about this sculpture because I found it very interesting. I was disappointed to know it was only 3m tall :( Thought it would be much more monumental...
Cool but creepy
Playing Slenderman with friends... Priceless with that BGM.
the shape is so beautiful
It sounds like the Howling rocks on the plain, from the book Rangers Apprentice
@bjuisex I think those are airplanes. The video is sped-up time lapse. Notice how fast the clouds move and the sun rises.
@wertstahl no probs
This is weird. It's like it's the only thing left on earth. Everyone is gone and this is standing sentinel on a lonely hill. It makes me think of the movies 2001, A Space Odyssey and Langoliers.
It's sped up but the sound is in sync with the vid.
@deeze67 Think it's the fuselage of ajet catching the rising sun.
Did you make this video Johnathon? It's very beautiful.
@wertstahl ill give it a go later in the week im only a few miles from crown point road where this is
@CIarkNova You seem to like WSBurroughs too. Very, very cool.
Oh god! :) Shooting Star at 1:10
I was thinking this is like in the book series the Rangers Apprentice it talks about a structure out on the windy plains that makes a noise like this its strange
They are planes , it's on a time lapse
Similar to "The Hum"
As matter of fact yes
you might think, aliens invaded somewhere near.
Opps, at 1:36 i understood that music has been imposed
just as good at 0.75!
@ZoePohlmann13 It totally should spin. I dont care what you have to write
Its like tht one episode in spongebob
holy shit thats weard and porly planed .
what was that behind the sculpture at 1:09 ?
did i see a comet flying down the sky?
Straight out of a H.P. Lovecraft story.
an audio book?
Yeah I would pull out my fifty cal and hope it isn't a zombie apocalypse.
I'm pretty sure it fired a shot at 1:45...
Viva . Imposing it is .
I wounder how much its worth if you scrap it?
どっかの動画にある宇宙から見た惑星の音みたいな。
Yes you are right
we have something similar in spain, I was running with some friends last night and I just shat my pants
It seems to me that the clouds moves too fast
That's cool, but can it do Smoke on the water?
Great video apart from the spinning yellow text. Why would you add that?
It sounds like those whale sounds
there was 3
You wanna shit bricks? Because, that's how you shit bricks.
What about the workers?
Jeff Loomis sent me here!
...and the ringing?
1:10
Reminds me of the beginning of 2001 Space Odyssey
spooky
At from 1:30 to 1:51 what the hell are those things in the background in the sky? meteors?
What's that thing flying in 1:30?
+Christian K.M most likely comets or asteroids.
this is a time laspe and comets last mere seconds so it had to be some sort of aircraft moving across the sky just sped up
airplane... and at 1:36...and 1:46...and 2:30...
medo :-(
1:10 UFO
