Bruhhhh😍😍 this is on in my opinion some of their best work, best album Arche.! Especially when it comes to Shinya's drumming.Honestly my favourite drummer evah!!! He and Toshiya Absolutely let loose since Withering to Death. The one I've been consistently listening to is Behind a vacant image, especially the live version Such a powerful song and I think the bass and drums really drive this song.

They eat part of the mermaids lower body. When she becomes fully human she's missing a leg. That's the connection.
    They ate it.
As another commenter has said the eating of mermaid flesh gives prolonged or eternal life according to old Japanese folklore.
    PS.
    Pronounced ooh roh koh
U is pronounced ooo not yoo in Japanese.
Edit. Forgot to say, I really enjoy your reactions. You give good analysis, and actually have something to say during the songs, but mostly your energy is really enjoyable.

I think the easiest way to describe the Japanese /u/ is to say it is closer to the oo [u] like in spoon (english has at least 6 different sounds for "oo", think about food, book, floor, flood, coordination and brooch). But actually the Japanese /u/ is a [ɯ̟] sound. You produce it at the near back of your mouth with spread lips - try saying spoon out loud and you notice the oo [u] is rounded and voiced. As the U in Uroko is at the beginning of the word it's not important here but I also read a lot of people claiming the U isn't spoken at all in Japanese. So here is the rule: If /i/ or /u/ stands between two unvoiced consonants or at the end after an unvoiced consonant they are devoiced. :)

In Japanese mythology eating the flesh of a mermaid grants you immortality.

This song is so cool. You should definitely watch a live version if you have any free time on your hands and would like to revisit this, John! I love your reactions :)
I read an interview where they talked about how the live versions differ from the studio versions and the interviewer asked Kyo why he writes these parts that he could never do live and he said that he wanted to do in the studio what can only be done in a studio and at a concert what can only be done at a concert. So in a way creating these layers pushes him to find new ways of presenting/singing during the lives.
I think you can interpret that video in many ways but for me it symbolizes different kinds of exploitation. We see all that dead fish on the shore, the meremaid is being eaten on the table like a delicacy while the meremaid itself eates her own eggs, like a way of selfconsumerism. If I ty this together with the picture of the one-legged woman it could point to the exploitation of women in general who are treated like 'delicacies' by some men. So we have the joined exploitation of the world's resources; the dominantly male exploitation of women and the eating of the eggs which could either stand for abortion or consumerizm - I am thinking about how we destroy parts of our enviroment [which is a part of ourself] just to consume something extraordinary and it is not even important how it tastes - just by saying its extremely rare in this world some people will want to have/taste it and are willing to pay a fortune for it.
But this is just the pv and we know that the director makes up most of it.
I find this especially interesting as the one-legged woman actually played a part in a Dir en grey song before - Itoshisa ha fuhai ni tsuki. And with abortion being a continuous theme in Kyo's lyrics it might be the surest bet to understand the eating of the eggs as just another symbol for this.

I'm a little bit amazed how many people have reacted to this and I can't remember a single person getting the connection between the beautiful amputee ladies then laid out on the table with half a mermaid tail eaten right where their missing limb is lol I'm starting to think it must be more obscure than it feels to me...maybe it's a cultural association type deal?
