In a salary cap era, where lottery picks are assigned a large salary, i would much rather get value in that pick next year, and spend the money elsewhere. not getting the 6 pick was a huge win
based on your personal analysis of this years and next years draft classes? 2020 was seen as a bad draft class and it turned out to have a ton of great and good players

The Raptors looked intriguing during their 3 game win streak after the break. They played Dallas competitive too trying to go for 4. Obviously Barnes broke his hand the next game, and the direction was clear as day.
I say let the kids play. See what you got. Hawks and Nets finished 21st and 22nd overall, yet they both got into the top 3 in the draft. Of course Rockets owning the Nets pick. BBQ might be too interesting to tank from the start.

Rebuilding is a certain. But remember it can go the way of OKC or just as easily it can become a Pistons/Hornets nightmare.

Even if it’s not Flagg whoever we get at around 10 or earlier would have more potential then this years pick in the weak class. Dude I get that you want us to get the best possible talent but you gotta believe in this squad a little more! We have a potential Star duo in Scottie and RJ similar to want Tatum and Brown got going in Boston. Plus we have our pg of the future, we’re just a few key pieces away from contention. I trust Masai to maximize this current core without ruining our culture with tanking.

You have a pretty good starting four with BBQ + Jakob. You have three solid bench pieces with Kelly O, Boucher and Dick. You need one starter and two more bench pieces and they are a borderlibe playoff team.

Edey mania is catching momentum. He is unbelievable and NBA scouts have be unduly harsh about his abilities. He will go in top 10 maybe even higher. This a two time NCAA 1 MVP which is incredibly rare. Only the legendary can brag those credentials. The combine has been eye opening. Lateral movement, quickness, three shooting. This man can do it all at 7'4". Smart, hard working, can see the floor, pass ....... he is another Nowitzky at the least. He played full games for Purdue and stayed out of foul trouble yet still was their best scorer and defender. Few big men can play a full game without tiring. Purdue never needed him to show his full range of talents. They stood him under the net at both ends to rebound and do little sky hooks. He also has an incredible free throw average. I am sad knowing that some crap team will get him before we will. At least we will watch him shine for team Canada. One more thing I forgot to add, he's BIG, solid and heavy. Most young 7 footers are bean stalks and rarely put on muscle because it is not in the makeup. They look like giraffes lopping down the court. Not Edey. He has the size of Jonas but better skills.

It would be nice to get Cooper Flagg… that would be amazing… However, this is unrealistic. I don’t think the front office would commit to another losing season. Likely we’ll be looking to add some free agents whoever is available.
Cooper flagg is nice, all star potential, great defender and plays to win games not stats. Cooper would be great, but I think Dylan harper has superstar potential, and would fit in with current raptors roster.
Also think nba gonna do everything they can to keep flagg in America
I really think we'll be a 8 - 7 seed at best as constructed so if we trade Yak only and the remaining guys still play hard we'll get good development and a top pick, I would be ok with that. I lived through the Raptors of the mid 2000's I can handle one more hard season

Tanking isn’t a great idea, we saw the lottery results look at Detroit. Tanking guarantees nothing. Surround the team with young players and rebuild the bench. Take advantage of high spending teams looking to cut salary and grow.
i got an idea trade like 4 picks for 1 good player, because that is what it will take to get a good player. they will be making 30 million also. so you will end up being mid with no picks or cap space so raptors will be in a complete rebuild in 4 years trading everyone starting from scratch.
Yeah Flagg would be best scenario but he’s not the only star even in that class. If we get a top 5 pick next year we’ll get a franchise changing player. I’d trade Jakob and draft kelel ware or Tyler smith and develop them at center with the other guys and hope to get a top pick.
And people saying the lottery works against tanking teams. OH NO the worst Detroit could drop was to 5. If we got the fifth pick next year we will get another Scottie Barnes. Trade Poetl and try and get Edey, Edey is as fast as Poetl or faster, might have upside on defense and at the combine looks like he is working on his game and could be the shock of the 2014 draft. Edey is 22 so well along developed and we get him cheap for 4 years.
We can get a athletic big. There are many of them in this draft.
@benrogerse masai said raptors are in a rebuild and they are not 1 year events. masai even said they can be 6 years. so the higher the picks you get, the better chance you hit on them and you have a 3-4 year rebuild instead of a 6 year rebulid. your method of being mid while trying to develop and compete turns a 4 year rebuild into a 8 year rebuild.
You can’t compare what OKC did with what we could potentially do. OKC started their rebuild with an MVP calibre trade and a slew of draft picks. I don’t think any of our guys are MVP calibre and minimal picks from Indiana and our own. Full tank is not going to go well. You can’t just ask guys to lose on purpose.
dont really matter does it, because trading 4 picks for 1 good player leaves you mid with no picks or cap space cuz they likely make 30 million so you basically put yourself into a full tear down rebuild in 4 years. and dont worry free agents dont sign in toronto so they are not gonna save the raptors if they find themselves in that situation.
you fail to realize for a small market like raptors who cant get free agents, the only way they can build a sustainable team to compete is through draft.

scottie barnes cant even ball handle well enough to create his own shot. so if we rebuild for 3-4 years, may be we actually find a legit number 1 option who can ball handle to create his own shot and put up 30ppg plus. that way scottie barnes can settle into his utility role like a draymon green instead of expecting scottie barnes to be a curry or a lebron which he is not.

Guys saying tanking for one year is bad. Guys… Charlotte has been tanking for ten years. Detroit for how long? Phili did it for how long? Come on…. A 4-5 year rebuild is super fast. Even okc. Took them how long? Prob 7-8 years. But they did it right. They got a super nice young core. Scottie is our shai. RJ is our Jalen Williams, iq is our Cason Wallace , Ochai is our Lou dort , gradey is a sniper. The tank last year helped gradey large. He learned in the fire. we need a centre of the future. Trade yak. Go young. Tank one more year. Maybe trade yak to okc or Memphis. Both have a pretty good pick this year. And they don’t need that pick. They both have to many young players. I say yak and bouchier to okc for ousman deing and the 12th pick and filler. Then we have 12,19,31. We can get yves Messi or Zach edey or maybe kalel ware. I would go for Devin Carter at 19. If a Siakim-Anunoby-Barnes-VanVleet combination was the core of a middling team. Not sure how a team of let's say Barnes-Barrett-Quickley-Flagg or Holland or Dillingham does any better. Get ready for a long season.
