Mine has a choke on it also electric choke year 99 or 2000 I believe
adjust it so the choke is open. I had this happen on the bronco. Its was flooding out. You got to have air, spark, gas. If choke is "choking" it down... can't get the air for 14-1 air/fuel

They told me its the ether they put in it to reduce pollution that is causing the problem. The answer is to do one of these run premium, Change spark plug temp, Change timeing, Adjust carb mixture screw. That is what the mercruiser service bullenta says. Anyone of the items I listed can fix the problem. In my area we have reformalted gas. Thats the issue. It wasn't designed to run on it. The boat did this from day one bought new. Thats what both the dealer and mercruiser told me. I found if I bought gas in Indiana it didn't diesel. Its the summer blend. They told me its the ether they put in it to reduce pollution. The EPA requires the new reformulated gasoline to have an oxygen content of just over 2 percent to help the gasoline burn cleaner. The two primary oxygenate additives are ethanol (corn alcohol) and methyl tertiary butyl ether.

Mine is popping and missing when I'm throttling up but seems to clear out when I move the throttle stick back and forth and Hammer down but then backing off the throttle it will make it pop through the carb again and then it will diesel on occasion when shutting off? You got any info on that brother?
My issue turned out to be a $5 rotor button. The manual and service bulletin says to let it run for 5 min before turning off to prevent diesel. The alcohol in the NEW gas is causing this. I replaced carb, modual, cap, plugs, wires, coil. Come to find out it was the $5 rotor button that looks fine. Its the way the distributor is designed. Moisture get in there but can't get out and corrodes. I found it with a spark tester. When you have intermediate miss the air/fuel ratio gets off. Its flooding it out.

@@samrogerskeeponkeepingon1486 It could be a lot of other stuff. But simple cheap stuff first. When I bought my wife a Jaguar. the fastest it would go was 30mph. Lady couldn't sell it. I bought it for $1000. Its was an $8 spark plug. Runs great... I forgot where I got cap and rotor but you can get REAL cheap online. its was something like offshore marine or something.
