  • Is you car crying, making whining noises? Then it's most likely the power steering fluid that needs to be changed.

    Thanks brother, I figured my 2006 BMW 325i was bad fluid. I heard a whine when steering left/right and when just idling. Took it to Pep Boys and they told me it wasn’t a guaranteed fix but I knew it was bad fluid. They flushed the power steering fluid and BAM!!!! Whine is gone! Fluid was brown and horrible. Now, I’m monitoring the pump/fluid. But so far, really really smooth and quiet.

      My car has about 160k miles and I will be replacing the power steering pump and reservoir soon. The whine is gone, but just feel like it’s the right thing to do. They said that fluid was brown. This was a temp fix for me until I get time to replace those components.

    Great video 👍 I recommend to not run the engine with the pump dry or under the correct amount of fluid (running the engine to power the pump whilst filling it back up). I also recommend to not put rags into the fluid to check colour. Just turn the wheel with the engine off (as you did). You will see air escaping as it continues to fill up to the max mark. Also just check your service manual for the amount you need. Also, make sure you use the correct fluid. Not all cars like ATF. Thanks again.

It had fluid but not touching showing on cap stick. A couple days after niece's acquaintance did gasket I topped steering with Prestone European (green). A couple hrs later Mom calls with hard steering, drove three miles home. I think hose crimp failure at pump intake flange , which connection secreted enough when I filled it to "spray"? 3" forward on pump pulley and the serpentine belt jumped to shreds..... I have plenty extra ATF, and/ or clear steering fluid which with your method I could see the clear exchange below and then replace with new ATF or buy CHF11s... /(?)\

    • @AlbanianFix
      @AlbanianFix  Před 3 lety

      That’s normal, it’s because the pinion is pushing hard against the rack but because the pathway is at its end and there is no room for the the fluid to push through which then creates pressure and then the pump works harder and therefore the noise. I always avoid to fully lock the steering wheel and if I have to make a U-Turn, I always back off a quarter or half a rotation from the lock position.

      Yeah… I apologize but the background music I was using to create this video used to be Non-copyrighted and then the author changed it to copyrighted and this video got flagged so I had to mute that section out.

    Is that a drain bolt or a banjo hose bolt?

    • @AlbanianFix
      @AlbanianFix  Před 4 lety

      Good question... I don’t really know because I never took it out all the way see the kind of bolt it is. It just took a little bit to get unscrewed and fluid came out right away.

      @@zaxosz5063 Yes there is metal pipe attached to it. The setup of this bolt with the pipe looks very similar to the ones from the AC condenser attachments.

    Is the process the same for e36 model (316i)? After refilling atf the whining noise near the engine was gone but when i turn the steering all the way to the right or left theres a groaning noise loud weird noise with strong vibration i was alarmed what could be the possible problem of my power steering?!

    • @AlbanianFix
      @AlbanianFix  Před 3 lety

      I’m not really sure about your model but I believe, yes, it should be. The noise that you’re experiencing is exactly the reason why you need to completely drain the system out all the gunk deposits that are still floating in the crevices of the power steering rack because refilling from the top won’t get rid of all the residues that lie at the bottom.
