Both philopospher and warrior. A ruler built both mentally and politically. An Emperor who left his state both financialy and military stable despite diesases and wars raveging everywhere around. He wasn't a mere, soft gentleman like modern people tend to portray him, he was a fiersome commander who complitely dominated and summoned to order germanic tribes, still keeping his stoic mannerism and modesty. A very rare example of human being. Basically His only flaw was a matter of power succession to his son which consequences he naturally couldn't predict as a loving father. Everything else about him is perfect

That's a stoic principle not relevant to this case. Had Marcus Aurelius been given 10 more years of life (he died at 58), he would have enough time to make his son Commodus a virtuous man to control the empire. What a pathetic excuse, right? When you are stripped of life earlier than you anticipated, and not being able to properly educate and discipline your son because you have to command armies and protect a whole empire for most of the time, sleeping in a war tent and being raided by barbarians. @@Fane7
