    Another fun fact, you can turn turmeric from orange to red by putting it in an alkaline solution that basically extends the length of the molecule and makes it absorb more light. COOL STUFF.

      Is it true that quercetin also helps reduce allergy symptoms? I seem to remember reading that somewhere, and also that apples, pears, onions & bananas are supposedly good sources of it. Have you come across anything that says that, or that would either confirm, or dispel, that? 😯❓🍎🍐🤷🏻‍♀️🧅🍌❓😯

    I have a theory about a possible instinctual attraction to decorated Christmas trees, that it triggers the deep ancestral attraction to a tree with ripe fruit( decorations especially red colored ball shapes) in the middle of winter ( a time of food scarcity).

    In high school, I had an English teacher who refused to eat blue M&Ms, because she said blue doesn't occur naturally in food. Students would always point out 'blueberries' and she argued that they're more purple than blue, which I agree, but I think the funniest thing was arguing the 'natural' angle, while eating manufactured, dyed sugar garbage 😆

    This is why it pays to eat the whole rainbow from fruits and vegetables.
    This is also why it's a good idea in general to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. I'll bet that virtually every fruit and vegetable has at least one unique phytonutrient, most of which are not well known.

    I've heard people talking about some negative affects of antioxidants - I think it was in reference to people with cancer, or undergoing treatment for cancer. And I think I've also heard it mentioned in relation to exercise recover (that might have been related to timing). I don't know anything about this, but if someone does I'd like to hear it. Can they be harmful or not beneficial to some people some times? Or are they always good?

    • @sofiakangas8796
      @sofiakangas8796 Před rokem

      One hypothesis I have is that antioxidants (that reduce oxidative stress) may lower inflammation in the body. Inflammation, not to be confused with infection, is basically a response from the body's own immune system. Short periods of inflammation are important, e.g. during an infection to fight off invaders. But *chronic* inflammation is usually bad & should be lowered.
      In the case of cancer though, lowering the activity of our immune system could be counterproductive. Immune cells may have a harder time finding and fighting tumors...I'm honestly just freeballing here but I think balance is always key. You may want inflammation during infections or perhaps even when fighting cancer...but not too much or your body kills you instead (e.g. high fevers -> coagulate body's proteins = baaad). Same with allergies, which cause inflammation symptoms basaed on harmless things, which sometimes kills you.
      Edited to add just cause I like writing too much lol but i thought of the fact that many treatments of cancer tend to be more rough than the disease itself. Most known characteristics of people wqith cancer has more to do with radiation or chemotherapy...lost hair, weakness, nausea. In a book I read the author thought he felt the worst right after treatment, slowly got better right up until the next dreadeda appointment and then went right back to feeling horrible. So the treatment for cancer itself is bascially "poison the body as much as possible without killing it"...which is the opposite of what you want to do with a healthy body. Hence antioxidants are usually gooda but may work against cancer treatments.
