    As a kid, we hardly _ever_ ate TV dinners-too expensive my mom said.
    HOWEVER, once a year, the Wizard of Oz would be on TV, and we kids took our baths, put on our jammies. Mom broke out the TV trays (flimsy metal tray on really skinny legs), and we'd have ... wait for it ... TV DINNERS!!! We thought it was the GREATEST! 50 years later, I still fondly remember these evenings.

      We watched Wizard of Oz too while eating Swanson Dinners the old kind with metal tray made for ovens. They were way better quality, too. I loved the little actual cobbler dessert that used to be in them. And we had these TV trays you could put on your lap.

      I just commented yesterday how much I hated those trays. The food was fine (when I was 5 anyhow), but those trays stayed hot for about 3 years after they came out of the oven. I don't even know how many times I burned myself on those things.

      @TheBrokenLife Před 4 lety +4

      @@jackperry5205 That's literally what they're doing. The "bowl" crazy is a cost reduction that I'm pretty sure has at least somewhat sensible roots. I never saw one of these things before Chipolte became a popular chain and started offering "naked" burritos, so much lower carbs, in a bowl instead of a wrapper. Then it seems to have become the cool thing to do as that brand exploded.
      Dunno... Just my observation on it. First time I went to a Chipolte was probably in the mid-00s and it was new to me to see a "bowl" menu item, then within a couple of years it seemed like they were everywhere.

There are lots of people who have phobias about their food touching but even without the phobia is disgusting because then everything cooks into each other in turns to mush and with all the stirring that they say you have to do it pretty much ruins everything. I think about it sometimes and cry about the purity of it, I still wandering the isles looking at N64 games and remembering that one time my dad accidentally left me get an M rated game and my mom didn’t notice until she walked in and lost her s**t at the alien gore on the TV haha. Right, and I'm confused about the no oven directions, unless they've changed, I had one last night, and it had oven directions (I cooked it in the oven) and the bowl hasn't changed, not sure, but he might have just missed them, but they could have added them, hot Pockets didn't used to have them, but they do now. Btw, if you heat hot Pockets in the microwave, you are a monster (in my humble opinion 😅😅)

    How he convinced a whole comments section that the mashed potatoes weren't ranch seasoned even after showing the back of the box where it says "savory ranch seasoned potatoes" and lists all the ingredients of ranch seasoning 😂😂 "The greatest trick the Wolfe ever pulled off was convincing the comments section the ranch seasoning didn't exist"🤣🤣🤣

    The aluminum trays of yesteryear were the best! They were the reason we had TV trays. On family movie nights they were a real treat. I remember waiting and waiting for the 45 minute baking time to pass, then I would dive straight into the desert. It was usually something gooey like a chocolate brownie, or apple compote and I would burn the roof of my mouth because they were nuclear hot.

    Boneless, skinless chicken breast makes up the most often served protein by meal in our household, but what I don't understand is the abundance of recipes that call for adding things like cheese and bacon to something that would not need it if the skin was not removed in the first place.

    I wouldn't be eating any processed foods anymore. The USDA has told companies they don't have to list what's in their food anymore due to food shortages. So the ingredients on the box don't have to match what's in the product. No telling what we are eating.

    TV dinners were a special treat for us kids back in the 70s...before salt was a thing! Formed meat slurry concoctions must be welded together with sodium these days. Be nice if there were some veggies in the bowl for colour at least.

    • @AWriterWandering
      @AWriterWandering Před 4 lety +2

      Douglas Eugene Reisinger II Sure, but the problem is aluminum can’t go in the microwave. And while many TV dinners taste better out of the oven, the reality is that microwaves are the more convenient and sometimes only option. (Eg breakrooms, dorms)

    • @AWriterWandering
      @AWriterWandering Před 4 lety +3

      @John Syzlack There’s way too much plastic waste in this world already. Sure, plastic can technically be recycled, but it more often than not isn’t. And even when it is, the reality is that this process is relatively energy intensive. (eg far moreso than recycling metals)
