Today I am going to show you how to repair a broken Rod using several different methods plus I am also going to show you how to replace a Guide on your Rod.
Man you're just great. You're a hall of famer pro yet, you keep your feet grounded enough to appeal to everyone, because you have the best gear and still have tips for the broke anglers out there. Even those who live in f*d up contries that do not have access to the best boats, or that can buy another rod, can now obviously, learn something from you .

Roland thanks for the advice for us weekenders. I always keep an assortment of tip tops and glue in my tackle bag. I even repaired a tip top for a nice old gentleman I didn’t even know when I saw he was fishing with a broken rod missing the tip top. He was thankful and I felt good for helping out a fellow fisherman. We’re all in this together.

Great tips Professor Martin👍👍. I’ve built and fixed rods since the 80s. Every rod I find in the trash I get the guides, reel seat and heat and pull off the tip top. I’ve got quite a collection and use them all the time on repairs. You’re a wonderful teacher! God Bless

It's great that you are sharing these repair procedures so that its' not always necessary to buy a new one just because someone had an accident and ended up breaking a rod. I myself have repaired several broken rods, both for myself and fishing buddies as well, for over a span of 50 years or so. I always bring an extra rod in case one gets broken when I go fishing, and if one does, most of the time it can be repaired to give many more years of service.
i do the second rod fix but i tye a guide on the fix. Im no expert but never had a problem yet. never seen the mono loop for the eye thread.cool. thanks. and good luck to Scott in his new adventure.

I have some West 655 g-flex epoxy, for boats, which flexes a bit, so I'm thinking of using some of that to finalize the deal. But the thread-wrapping thing, I've always wondered how that was done.
Awesome information. I have one rod I use as a spare, or emergency, rod that is broken. I always used it for overgrown areas and rough terrain. That way it wouldn’t be a big loss if I broke it.

Good one, sir. I call these types of fixes "Trip Savers". I always have a few extra guides and glue in my box. All kinds of things can be trip savers; spare parts for your bow or dry shoes and socks stuck behind the truck seat.

So down to earth, subscribed and I almost never subscribe. Nothing like learning from a master. One tip for a bad guide, see if you can pull it out and save the wrap. On an Amazon trip last year a buddy had a guide a few back from the tip catch a knot and pull out. I'd never had that happen but I did have superglue in my tackle bag. He put a drop on the guide and slid the foot in, good to go. Sure enough, a few months later at home I had one pull out but the line broke at the knot and the guide was gone. I ordered the correct guide online, superglued the foot and slid it in the existing wrap. Another method I've used recently on a broken mid section of an expensive travel rod, ordered a five foot length of solid fiberglass rod in the closest diameter after measuring (eight bucks shipped), the stuff used for bicycle flags. A cut six inch piece was perfect at the break point, too big towards the tip and a bit small towards the butt so I put it in the drill chuck and tapered down the top a bit then wrapped a few inches of braid on the bottom. I marked the middle then slid it in three inches, fifteen minute epoxy made it stronger than new. A wrap finish and epoxy made it look like factory.
Hey Brother ROLAND. Use some toothpicks & JB Weld. It works wonders on a Long Crappie rod that is Broken. Apply it on the INSIDE of the Rod Blank. Gone Fishin.
Great video, I just broke a fly rod some how, A foot above the handle, I did the same thing with a plastic coat hanger, as a dowel, and I might try wrapping it and sealing that with shrink wrap since its where all the torque will be, and my question is, How do you keep the super glue from glueing itself shut in between using it?
This is cool because after I fix my rod, I can go to the hardware store and buy a brand new sharp drill bit to replace the old one I just used! Win/win situation. I once had a 9 foot fly rod and leaned the 2 sections against a closet door jam. I absent- mindedly closed the door and crunched the ferrule on the bottom section but the top one was still good. I cut the handle free from the bad section and used a dowel rod and epoxy to glue the top section into the handle. It made a really dandy little 5 foot fly rod that works great with a #4 fly line on small waters!
Just wanted to point something out, when I watch other videos I don't have any lagging problems. I do however have lagging problems on your videos. I still love your videos and I will continue to support your Channel, but I just wanted to let you know and try to be helpful.
Mr Martin have you ever repaired a crushed/cracked rod. I stepped on the butt end of my favorite fly rod and crushed a 4 inch section just above the cork
Today I learned that I it's ok to break fishing rods, because you get spare parts. I haven't broken a rod in over 25 years. I still have them all to prove it!
You just created a hard spot which will break below or above the spot.. You should've inserted a flexible carbon tube after applying resin and wrapped it with some resin socked carbon tow.. Covered it with a vacuum tube.. Apply heat and resin.
I got a 2 piece 12 foot surf rod stuck together I have tried heat, pipe wrenching, canned air and froze it, even pecked on it with a hammer after taping it, nothing will budge it I bought it that way thought oh well I get it unstuck but no, dynamite wouldn't get it apart had two big strong guys try and get it loose I'm about to break it, lol 😂 I'm trying now a method to use a hydraulic floor jack any tips😢
It will be very temporary. There is no give in the insert and you've lost a good drill bit. Better to use a section of an old broken rod and glue in with epoxy which takes with carbon. Just as easy but will last forever, especially if you whip over the joint.

I almost lost my Bait casting real when the pistol grip broke off . I had to pull it in with the line glad i had a good knot tied on to the spool .

When repairing a guide. I use Sally Hansen Heard as Nails. It drys quickly. A couple of coats and you are good to go.

I just put the window up in the car and crushed a brand new 80 dollar graphite. It's right on the tip as well.

I used to keep superglue on me until the day it leaked out in my front pocket and I glued the head on my pee pee to my leg.
