I do not see the point of your argument seeing I mentioned his heads nowhere in my response unless if you are referencing the Harry Potter theory about Cerberus which I never said was accurate considering that Cerberus only left the underworld once when Heracles “stole” him. I simply stated that I liked the Cerberus theory.
There are also multiple interpretations of Cerberus such as Hesiods interpretation (Who I assume you are are referring to) with Cerberus having 50 heads but in the vast majority of interpretations Cerberus has 3 heads, seeing as the Greeks has a special connection with the number 3. Eg. The Moirai, the Charities, the grey sisters, the three godly brothers (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades) and many more.
      Therefore, your argument is redundant.

  • @macattackk
    @macattackk Před 3 lety +95

In the book towards the end Quirrell is described as raising his hand to cast a curse to end Harry’s life. Does that mean he can / was about to perform Abada Kedavra wandlessly and non-verbally?? Cos that’s super impressive. Also conjuring all those flames and the ropes to tie Harry both wandlessly and non-verbally is super advanced magic. Also he broke into one of the most secure gringotts vaults and got away without being caught, and that was before Voldemort possessed him, so just with his own skills. And his curse on Harry’s broom would’ve succeeded had Hermione not intervened despite Snape (a master mind reader/legilimens/Occlumency/incredibly skilled and knowledgable wizard) performing a counter curse. I honestly think Quirrell is one of the most underrated wizards, dude was super powerful. Also as a side note... does he have a wand? I don’t remember him ever using it in either the books or film which seems odd.
And that first part I made kinda takes away from your theory that he couldn’t perform magic or he wouldn’t have tried. I think the idea that he chose not to to not give himself away is the better explanation.

I'm fairly certain that Quirrell was taken during the summer and was 100% possessed when Harry met him as he did, in fact, employ the stutter at the Leaky Cauldron when they meet the day Harry goes to Diagon with Hagrid (just before the break in at Gringott's). He's said to have likely encountered Voldemort while he was on that trip to do with vampires, reference Dumbledore's later discussions about Quirrell's possession with Harry (either end of book 1 or around those portions dealing with Dumbledore's explanations of his investigations into Voldemort's life/death path in book 6).
I will add that if Voldemort thought to get OUT of the school at all, he could NOT have done so whilst still inside Quirrell after he'd revealed himself. Voldy was basically weak (reference the graveyard rebirth ritual scene - can't even hold himself up in book 4 after partial resurrection).
We know focus is required, as well as power, in order to cast spells of high-skill (re: Hermione's numerous explanations in book 4 & 5 when trying to help teach advanced magics). We can assume that Quirrell is powerful/skilled, since he was already a professor at the school prior to being taken by Voldy. I still, however, think that either Quirrell WAS legitimately drained from the psychologically and physically painful/draining experience of possession by the partially-ensouled dark lord, or was aware that enacting a killing curse may either backfire AGAIN or make it impossible for him to get clear.
Recall, Dumbledore is one of the ONLY people who genuinely understands what happened to Voldemort and Harry; Voldemort himself mentions only partial understanding (he recognized after the fact it had to do with love but never came to understand love's true power). So Quirrell would only have partial knowledge of what protects Harry. This lack of understanding of the defenses Harry possesses, plus the fact that powerful magic has already rebounded off the kid AND the fact that killing him with a known spell would have led back to him more easily... Plus drain? I'd say that his power level is irrelevant since killing Harry was literally not a possibility with spells. He'd have had to incapacitate by hand, IF he was still able to really cast powerful magics (he was possessed from like, July/June according to those later discussions.. possibly suggested as late as early August, since he meets Harry around end of August and is very much suggested to be possessed even then (though theorized newly so and just having returned, as he has both turban and excitable stutter).
I'd call Quirrell one of the bigger, quieter tragedies of the series. Powerful, talented youngish wizard, goes on sabbatical to study his craft for better teaching and comes back possessed by a dark lord who corrupts and twists him until ultimately leading him to his death. He was repressed, drained of power and usefulness, then discarded into dust when his use was through... I'd actually like to read that story, JS.

I posted this before but didn't get an answer, so sorry for posting it again. There might already be a theory about this, or JK might have spoken out about this and I might be unaware of it. But one of the things that I always wondered with regard to the whole twin core situation is how Voldemort kept his wand... He says himself that "he became less than the meanest ghost" when the part of his soul was ripped from his body. And one of the main aspects of ghosts is that they are incorporeal and cannot hold stuff. So how did he keep track of his wand? Also why didn't anybody find and destroy that wand because I assume it must then have lain around in the wreckage of the Potter's cottage, right? So yeah, how did Voldemort keep the phoenix wand which really is quite essential to several moments of survival for Harry and could create a massive plot hole.

Counter theory: Norbert was a distraction meant to give Quirrell the opportunity to get the stone and escape. He REASEARCHED how to bypass a cerberus (because Greek mythology isn't a secret) and had gone through the trap doors multiple times working his way through (and repairing) all the obstacles. That's why Dumbledore moved the mirror; Harry finding it gave him the idea to hide the stone.
PS: Quirrell should have gotten the stone: he wanted to give it to Voldemort, not use it.

It’s almost as if Rowling didn’t plan everything out from the beginning like she claims 🤷‍♂️ Nothing wrong with that mind you, it’s just annoying that she won’t admit it.

Absolutely agree. There’s nothing wrong with not planning everything out but there is something wrong with not admitting to it. Honestly I don’t see why she’s so stuck on having planned everything out we all know she didn’t.

I think planning things out isn't a binary thing. You can have pretty much all major plot points planned and even some not so major ones without exactly knowing all the rules of the world in derail yet. There are so many aspects to story writing and I think you can only plan out so many of them in advance before your "planning" turns into the exact novel you want to write from those plans. I'm willing to believe her she planned a lot and had a lot of the ideas she wrote in later early on. Not having thought through every single little thing and established every rule doesn't negate that.
I think the biggest reason for all those "mistakes" and "plot holes" in Harry Potter is that noone could have ever expected it to get so big. None on those things are all that bad or unusual in a whimsy children's book series, even if that series turns darker later. I don't think it was intended to hold up to all standards of logic but with the amount of attention it got and the less whimsy films that were made of it and yes, maybe also the author's unwillingness to admit to it, the plotholes just get more noticable.

That's because it doesn't count as a "view" until a certain point in the video, most likely close to if not the end. This just means 19 people liked it and stopped watching before that point.

@@gqsmooth1969 good point, but they didn't need to stop watching before the end. Probably 19 people liked it but hadn't finished watching the whole video YET at that point. maybe they were in the middle.
