Hello Victor. Thank you for your question. No the black base is optional. There are also quite a number of people that place it in a specific type of table, so the choice is yours.
Ummm... yeah I’ve tried this several times in order to try and get lid to seat right and not raise up in the rear allow heat and smoke to escape with no luck.. and bought preassembled. Maybe return and pick up KJ
Hello Derrick. Do you mean that if your EGG is closed, it does not fully seal in the back?
Big Green Egg Europe Correct. The few times I’ve cooked on the egg the food still turned out to be delicious 😋 and I didn’t have any issues holding my temps where I needed them. There’s an over bite in the front of the lid near the handle and in the rear the gap in between the top and bottom gasket is roughly 1/4 inch.
Hi Derrick. A 'regular' overbite can normally be corrected quite easily with a few spacers. You can ask your dealer about them. If in the back you have a vertical gap, it could be that the lower band is not wrapped around evenly. If this is not the problem, please don't hesitate to contact the US HQ (I am guessing you are in the US?) or if you are in Europe, send us a PM via the Big Green Egg Europe Facebook page!
chronic problem with mine too even after following all directions to get it to close properly. First couple of years it was fine, but last couple of years after failing to close the smoke gap in the rear of the unit I'm done with the BGE. very dissatisfied with BGE XL. I'm going to sell mine.
