    This video will show my diagnosis for a No start issue on a Toro zero turn riding mower. Too easy electrical diagnosis using a volt meter.

      Check the safety switches each side of the handles. Sometimes the handles can get grass and not be able to go all the way out. Also sometimes the big screw with spring on some zero turns once again connected to handles needs to be tightened and the then release just a bit. Then there is a screw somehow in the safety switch connected to each side of handles that is really small and needs to be tightened. Worked for many. Seems to be on the zero turn mowers. See other sites for more.

    Glad I found this channel. I have a brand new 2020 Toro 50 inch Timecutter. Got it in June of 2020 from my dealer. It only has about 7 hours on it and now it won't start. So I'm wondering just what could be wrong with it. It was working just fine when I parked it in my garage last October. I made sure to leave very little gas in it so I could start it from time to time all winter long. You think maybe the gas has gone bad??

    • @RaleysSmallEngines
      @RaleysSmallEngines  Před 3 lety +2

      Very possible. Take the air cleaner off and give it a shot of brake cleaner, carb cleaner or pour a tiny bit of gas into the carburetor and try to start it. If it starts and quits it's a fuel or possibility carburetor issue from bad gas.

    I have a Toro SW4200 (On steep slide slopes the Steering Wheel is Awesome) and have rewired mine due to numerous electrical issues. Starter Solenoid replaced 3 times, brake controller once, starter wiring, PTO switch. The starter has been removed several times (PITA). The starter seems to have a dead spot where it won't move occasionally. Loosed the starter, used a pry bar to move it slightly, hit with a hammer. Voila she's back (until the next time it hits the dead spot). So, I left the starter a little loose so I can pry it a bit if it jams again. As machined, the starter alignment with the flywheel may be off when fully tightened down. Stuck starter is probably why so many starter solenoids were burned open. Electrically it's Trash. However, as Modified, I LOVE this mower! Big Tires, HD spindles, Hydrostatic is Very Strong (Can climb steep hills pulling big stump grinder. With crossblades, heavily modified/strengthened/rewelded deck (Big Air Flow improvement), and a home grown rear bagger, it can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch! Sounds like an Airplane at full pitch. I use it to clear sticks/leaves/branches that would usually require raking. Love IT, but the TORO engineering department needs some help,

    • @markhall3434
      @markhall3434 Před 3 lety

      With Cross blades, the PTO clutch and belt will be next.. helluva "Squeel" when engaging the PTO due to the much increased blade inertia mass.. Spares ready to install. Starter still sticks about every 40 or so starts, but can usually unstick w/o removing the starter. Fairly stable now.

    • @RaleysSmallEngines
      @RaleysSmallEngines  Před 3 lety

      Yes they are good strong mowers. Yes, to get the correct starter it should be a Toro. Aftermarket starters will not last. You should be able to get the correct part number on PartsTree.com, as they have good diagrams. Then check other sites for the best price on an OEM starter.

      Clicking is often a loose connection or marginal battery. Could be starter solenoid which is pretty weak. The Clicking is likely the solenoid engages, the starter draws current, causing the voltage to drop and the solenoid disengages. Back and forth oscillating at 2 or 3 hertz. Check your cables, grounds, solenoid, and Battery voltage while engaging the starter. 13V open, 7V starter engaged. Good luck, shouldn't cost much!!

    So I have one of these its a year old. Dam thing backfires when you first try to start it cold I mean bad. Its so loud when it does it I am ducking just waiting for parts to come flying out. It only does it when cold. It also backfires when you shut it off. The thing is still under warranty so I called and they will look at it but I am afraid to take it to them because this problem is random. It does not do it all the time. I have not dug into this motor yet. I am thinking its carb related. Do you know do these have fuel cut out solenoids on the carbs? I am also understanding they may have a compression release on the cam? I dont know enough about these new motors from Toro. I just know I am a little pissed cause I sold a perfectly good running one to buy a new one. The other had some miles on it. I just happened to find your video knowing I need to tackle this problem during the off season.

      Sorry just saw your comment. There may be an issue with the solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor. I would also check the valve clearance. With the spark plugs removed turn the engine over by hand and look at the valves. You are looking for them to bump open just a little. I have a valve adjustment job next week and I will do a video on it so you can see how to check the compression release
