    In this video we will be fixing a riding lawn mower that has sat all winter and will not start. How to start a riding lawn mower. Some of my favorite tips for starting a lawn mower that won't start. Learn how to tap the fuel solenoid and spray starter fluid into carburetor lawn mower. Where to spray starter fluid on a lawn mower. We will be using starter fluid on a riding lawn mower. The motor cranks but it does not start. The mower is a Toro Timecutter Zero Turn mower with a Kohler Courage engine but these tricks can apply to most riding lawn mowers. The first trick I use to get a mower to start is lightly tapping on the fuel solenoid, which is located right under the carburetor. The fuel solenoid is an electronic fuel shutoff switch and it can get gummed up or stuck if it has sat for a long period of time or is simply wearing out. Tapping on it while cranking the motor helps loosen the deposits inside of it and usually will allow it to open up and let the fuel flow. If this tip does not work you can also use starting fluid to help get the mower to start. Remove the air filter and spray a small amount of starting fluid in the air intake where the carburator is attached. Choke and try to start the riding lawn mower again. Hopefully these two simple tricks will solve you're problem of a no start mower and you will be back to mowing your yard in no time! This can also work on a Poulan, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, or Craftsman lawn mower that doesnt start.

    Helpful video. By the way, a stuck fuel solenoid is easy to diagnose. For my John Deere L118 mower, when my engine key turns the front lights on, I hear a click from the fuel solenoid when my ear is less than 6 inches away (to distinguish the click from another solenoid near the battery). A stuck fuel solenoid won't give that clicking sound (similar to relay clicking).

    I added bad gas to a 1/4 of a tank of good gas. (Bought gas after a heavy rain in Texas) I drained the gas tank and replaced with fresh fuel. I also added Sta-bil fuel to it. Will not start. My 2018 Troy-Bilt (Horse) riding mower needs to have the brake depressed when you try to start it. I live alone and have no one to sit on the mower and do this while I tap the Carb and spray the carb cleaner in it. What now? How were you able to do that without depressing the brake? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your video. 😆😆😊😊

    I have old Craftsman DYS4500, not sure of what year, maybe late 1990s, as I bought it Spring 2023 from hay farmer down the road. On my fourth time to mow my 2 acre yard, just as I finished all mowing the engine shut off and has never re-started. Tractor Forum folks think it must be the Timing is off do the sheared key between crankshaft and flywheel. Well, I can imagine this could be problem but that would incur if I had hit something with blades engaged and suddenly shut engine down. I think??? It has good spark both coils, it just will not start even with Starting Fluid sprayed in. Absolute mystery. Please help advise if you have remedy.

    • @Z23go

      Make sure it is in Park or Neutral and the blades are turned off and then see if it will start with no one on the seat. If that doesn't work you could set something heavy on the seat (flower pot). ONLY do this if it for sure is in park with blades off. If it doesn't look safe to you then I recommend waiting for help.

    If it starts with the engine starter, what is the long term fix?

    • @Z23go
      @Z23go  Před 2 lety

      Are you having to use the engine starter every time you start it? If you use it occasionally it's fine but if you do it every time, then probably need to dig down to what is causing it not to start...Clogged fuel filter or carburetor needs cleaned are two possible problems.
