Thank you for this video as I am changing mine currently. One note - the toque specs are 9 ft. lbs. on the valve cover screws.

You’re welcome. Good point on the torque spec.

Love how the video starts during daylight and ends up at night. That about describes this job. It's a PITA. Not impossible, but painful. On the passenger side (2002 Ranger 4L; 197K miles) there are all the radiator and heater hoses and their awful jagged cheap spring clamps and stuck hoses with no room. Had to take off the front piece of the intake to get to them, and buy the right kind of locking pliers to hold clamps open while you pull, twist, sweat, and hope. On the drivers side there is the gas line (one 4-foot piece all the way to the fuel filter, so don't try to pull it), all that random vacuum spaghetti, and then the coil bracket I had to use an impact gun on after taking out the wheel well. Woof. At the end of the job on the passenger side I had an extra vacuum line (oh no! there's little logic to those, no diagrams *anywhere*), that ended up just going to a dead end terminal off to the side near the firewall. But hey, with help from this video I stopped the main oil leak. Was worried it might be a real engine seal, but this fixed it. Give it a shot if you are so-inclined. I feel like I know this guy at this point. Thanks for this.

Haha I’m a slow worker btw. Intake time. Take brakes...plus recording...this was late due to all that. It doesn’t that a full day if all your are focused on is this job.

Thanks for posting this video! The Haynes manual says that in order to remove the passenger side valve cover you must first remove the intake manifold and many other components. After watching this video I learned that isn't true which saved me a lot of time. Thanks again! 🍻
Side note for anyone preparing for this job: Make sure you have a 1/4" drive 8mm deep socket, many 1/4" drive extensions and 1/4" drive u-joints before attempting to remove either valve cover.

What a pain. Had my engine remanufactured but they squished a valve cover gasket so it's leaking oil. I put new heater hoses on everything, trying not to damage them but they're grippy as hell on the metal.
Thanks for the video, this repair is kind of a PITA just like everything else on the Ranger.
I like your safety shoes too haha

Damn, both gaskets gonna set me back $700. My mechanic said it’s a pain in the ass to remove everything. It’s definitely above my patience level. Thanks for the vid.

I replaced gaskets on both sides and had to buy one bolt ( long one) here is the part number 4L5z-6c519-ba. and torque is 80 lb inch or 6.7 lb ft . As far as I know no sequence. I just went around starting from injectors side.

Is there enough room to replace the injector seals once the valve cover is off, or would the intake manifold need to be pulled also?

@@HowToDoitright Its 8mm. I had to go buy a set of deep 1/4in sockets. I tried to see the size on your video but you never would turn the socket to show it.

It would have been easier to get the 2 bottom screws off, from under the wheel well. Same as if replacing the sparkplugs.
