    In 1991 we had our senior prom at the World Trade Center in Dallas Texas and immediately after a large group of our friends drove out to the Hollidome in Irving near the DFW Airport! We had all pitched in to get a few rooms to party in all night and some of us jumped in the pool afterhours until we were asked to go back to our rooms! It was a great experience!! Now it’s the “Atrium Hotel & Suites DFW” but it still has the indoor pool!!!

      Oh, wow....this is my kind of story, my kind of GEN X adventure. I also graduated that year...and that would have been the bomb. Thanks for watching.

    The night swim picture with the lights....i haven't been hit with nostalgia like that in a very long time. This was my poor family vacation in early 80s. Nice video!

      This kind of comment is what I love to read. Thank you. We had a huge family, and getting a room on the Holidome was so special. I totally understand you. Thanks again.

    We stayed at the holidome in Springfield, Illinois, Columbia, Missouri, Hannibal, Missouri as kids. The one in Springfield has the most special memories for me and it is long gone. The one in Columbia (assuming it's still open is a place that has weekly rental). The one in Hannibal is currently under a couple different brands. One that I didn't stay at during the Holiday inn days is the Auburn Place in Cape Girardeau, Missouri which actually seems to be decently managed. Interesting piece of history with that location is the Drury family constructed it and is created to inspire them afterwards to create their own hotel business.

      Thanks for the extra piece of history. We have a Drury Inn nearby! It is nice to hear that there are a few spaces that still either exist, or at least try to keep up. Thanks again.

    Wow! Blast from my gen x past!! I grew up near the Holidome in Sandusky OH and have awesome memories of having my 10th birthday party there. I had 5 friends and my brothers and omg we had a blast!!! That location shut down not long after that and it was a few different hotel chains but none lasted. It's currently sitting vacant and is in horrible condition. sad because I have such great memories of it. Thank you so much for this video!

    You'd be delighted to hear that I know of one old Holidome that is still extant as a Holiday Inn property. It is located in St. Cloud, Minnesota across from the city's Crossroads Center Mall. It still contains all of the recreational amenities an old Holidome contained in addition to the pool.
    There's also a Holiday Inn in Countryside, Illinois (not too far from Chicago) that appears to have been a Holidome as well, but it is limited to an extravagant pool area.

      I love hearing something like the originals still exist, even in name. It is too bad they are so limited, but I understand things change and how people go on road trips and vacations. Still, nice to hear. Thank you.

    Our family stayed at the Holidome in Hutchinson, KS two years in a row over Christmas. Those were THE best times! Because it was over Christmas, we literally had the place to ourselves! Very few people were there. My wife and I stayed at one in Manhattan, KS in the mid-1990s, just before it was closed. There was a lot of humidity damage.

    • @GENXPERIENCE
      @GENXPERIENCE  Před 11 měsíci +1

      That humidity damage must have run rampant in those places. I love your story of staying there 2 years. I think that is incredible. Great memories. Not just having it to yourself, which WOULD BE AWESOME, but because it was Christmas. That sounds like a very lovely holiday getaway. I miss going. I miss when my mom and dad got the room in there and we all just spent hours with them in the holidome. When day trips/short vacations at hotels were pretty inclusive. Thank you for commenting...and thanks for watching.

    I have been looking for this set with the box for about 6 years! I am the COO of a hotel management company and would buy this from you, whatever the cost you're willing to sell it for. Seriously! Anything!

      Good morning. Well, thank you for watching and I hope you liked seeing the playset. I certainly have fond memories of it as a child. It is great that it is in the box and so many of the little pieces that are easily lost (like the individual custom cards that can be slid into the Great Sign). Please note that there are some extra pieces that came with mine from other playsets (like a bbq) and it seems to have a couple of extra pieces from another Holiday Inn Playsets (like more than the 2 beds originally included). It seems to be missing ONLY the Playground Slide, Swing, and one suitcase. The play set is NOT the one for fisher price Round/Little People, as you saw it is for the original set with the square play people. I see others selling it online with the box, but wondered if you specifically interested in mine because of how it looked or what was included. I am interested in selling. Please let me know if you would like to go forward with that and we can make arrangements. Thank you again.

    Most of the notable ones here in Indiana like the one in Princeton are abandoned or soon to be torn down. Most of the others like Carribean cove in Indianapolis were torn down. What makes me most annoyed is the lack of creativity by hotel owners after its days as holiday inns. So much wasted space for nothing, and most ended up neglected too. Wish we saw hotels like these come back

    • @GENXPERIENCE
      @GENXPERIENCE  Před 3 měsíci

      Your comment about Creativity is also true with Names. Holiday Inn wasn't ingenious of a name, but it evoked a feeling. Now you have things like LIV and SPARKS, or CSV Properties, or some other stupid non imaginative name. Sad state, huh?

    Back in 60's and 70's Holiday Inns were a great place to stay. Not too exspensive and the quality was consistant, except or Holiday Inns in Canada that were a mess.

      @@GENXPERIENCE In 1975 stayed at a holiday inn in London Ontario, wall covering was falling down because of black mold on the walls. Yuck. In 1990 stayed at a Holiday inn In Windsor that had dried blood all over the mattress. Super creepy and yuck. 🥵
