The BEST .380 round is the Underwood 68gr Xtreme Defender. The problem with the .380 round is that if it expands, it doesn’t penetrate and if it penetrates, it doesn’t expand. The Underwood round is a fluted, solid copper bullet that uses the flutes to “disperse and disrupt” instead of an opening hollow point. It’s also available in +P.

@@jayoh8616 so far so good. Only a couple magazines so far. I’ve had a lot more feed issues with trying to add extensions to my OEM mags.
They do feed in the LCPMax without issue. I too use them, they create a very nice wound track, but the flutes are more of a gimmick, the nice wound track is from the round tumbling. Many channels that do gel tests find this round had tumbled, hence the nice wound track without over-penetration like FMJ rounds. There's a channel that shows these rounds with a high speed cameras and again they tumble, it's not the flutes that cause the wide wound cavity.
Totally agree…..however plus p is nit recommended for the LCP Max

I'm glad I picked the LCP Max up. Sold my LCP2 and 10th Anniversary. Bought extra mags. 100% since the 1st day.
I’ve been in a gunfight w/my issued .38 and carry the original design LCP in retirement. It’s been 100% w/everything for over 10 years and is the perfect EDC in a pocket holster for this retired senior citizen. I no longer have to go after bad guys and my daily orbits are pretty tame. As to getting bonked w/shell casings my head looks a bit like yours so absent much hair for padding I wear a baseball cap.
Super stoked you did a torture test on the LCP Max. I’ve been impressed with it so far and this just takes my confidence to another level with this pocket gun!

Really appreciate your personal pain and effort to bring this report. I just picked up one at a pawn shop that appears to have been fired very little. Looked it up and found it was made in 2021. Bought a couple more mags on line and hope to get to the range soon. I'm a bit leary of early production runs, so we'll see. I marked the mag it came with. I noticed it has a pronounced point of resistance just before (by hand) ejection of a live round from the chamber. Looking forward to that range visit.
Let me try to put you mind at ease. I purchased my LCP MAX in mid-July 2021, that is when they first came out. I have been pocket carrying this beauty since then Truthfully, I have put around 1200 rounds through this thing and there has been no issues at all. I recently (Sept 2023) put the MCARBO Stainless steel guide rod, the HD Take-Down pin and the Extra Power Recoil spring on it. There has been a noticeable difference in the way it feels during recoil, but it is totally manageable, just different.
I have no regret's with this, it wont be sold/traded anytime soon because there is nothing out there that compares to it for light, agile, small, controlable concealed carry.
I do recommend dumping the Ruger pocket holster, and get yourself a Galco PRO836B. Had this holster for 2 years now, holds up great and just works! With the 12 + 1 configuration and this holster, I see 16.47 oz. Should have done it long ago!
@donnyarmstrong9559 Took it to the range. Shoots very accurately at 8 yards. Does have (for me) quite a bit of trigger pinch. Decided to get the Mcarbo trigger so did. Haven't ever done that but I like the gun. It shoots well and reliably.

Hey-o! Took my new Max to the range and found it to be reliable (no failures) and very good accuracy at eight yards. Way much trigger pinch, though. Ordered the MCarbo trigger and stainless guide rod w/spring. Put in the rod and trigger which is much better feeling but haven't shot it again, yet. Will get to the range soon and try it with both springs to see which one I keep. Have to wait a bit, though because I tore my right rotator cuff last Fri. Waiting on MRI. Will keep you posted.

Kudos to you for shooting that much through that gun! I have the regular LCP and it is not fun to shoot at all. I would never go that long without cleaning or lube. Amazing that it made it!

Love my LCP Max. Had to get some practice in before I was accurate but once I got a hang of it I was shocked at the accuracy of this tiny pistol.

I Picked up mine mid-July 2021... I LOVE IT!
So, I have been pocket carrying this beauty for almost 3 years now. I have ran Round Nose FMJ's, Flat Nose FMJ's & Jacketed Hollow Points, through it with no issues. Even when mixed in the same mag! I now use the 12 round mag full time, with the 10 round mag as back-up.
Empty weight, with the factory pocket holster, is 11.68 oz. Add the 10 + 1 rounds, I see 15.38 oz, with the 12 + 1 configuration and factory holster, I see 16.08 oz. on my digital kitchen scale.
I wear cargo style pants & shorts pretty much always, and the front right pocket works great for carry, its comfortable while I am in a vehicle, or at my desk. I forget its there when I'm at the grocery store ect.
Back in 2021, I picked up a nifty little OWB holster from Tactical Scorpion Gear, TSG-LCP2-2 (option 2), it's for the LCPII, and the LCP Max fits in this awesome holster perfectly! The supplied, "tuck-it-in" style paddle is a bit difficult for me, but the belt attachment works flawlessly! I dont OWB the pistol often, but when I do this one is perfect!
I have also replaced the stock pocket holster, back in June (2022), with one from Galco, PRO836B, and absolutely love this holster! With the 12 + 1 configuration and this holster, I see 16.47 oz. Should have done it long ago!
For pocket carry, I still believe that this pistol is the best option out there!

I have the exact same setup. Everyone hates the supplied pocket holster, but you can fix that. That a knife and cut the inside stitches out. Carefully cut the perimeter stitches and test the fit two stitches at a time until you get it where you want it. Then put a simple stitch in to lock it. Did m8ne a while back. Works perfect

I just got the 75th anniversary edition. Just waiting on my 12 round mags to come in the mail. This thing is so light yet fits well in my big hands. If it does good at the range this will probably be my main carry. My 19x might just end up my nightstand gun lol

Underwood extreme defender/penetrator rounds are my go to in 380. Usually issues you see with the round in a jhp are either over expansion lacking penetration or like with fmj enough penetration but just not as much effect on target. I have the lcp max and the p365 380 and they both run great, the 365 is a really gentle shooter and only slightly larger than the max. The max has been reliable with most ammo though, and i still have use cases for both and shoot both.

@@fpav4049 I think of it as the kinda happy medium between a hollowpoint and fmj, and really fits the .380 niche. IMO once you step up to 9mm a hollowpoint comes back to being a better choice as long as you choose a round appropriate for your barrel length, but thats my opinion.

It's not a happy medium. Underwood defender defeats hollowpoints in a categories especially in wound channels
I really don't want to shoot 1000 rounds out of mine. It is a fine go-for-a-walk in the neighborhood gun that I can carry in a sticky, which seems to be its purpose. I've got several hundred rounds through with zero stoppages. I believe it will go bang when needed so it does what it must do. I'm glad I have it, I carry it during every walk.

I torture test every single gun of mine. Run cheap ammo , and fire until I finally get a misfeed or jam. Here is the list
1st place: Sig sp2022- went over 3k rounds no issues. Finally cleaned it when I upgraded trigger. Still never a jammed. I’ve owned it almost 10 years now.
2nd place : S&w mp9 2.0- just under 900 rounds finally had a jam with steel case ammo. Very good gun
3rd place :Glock 43x- it’s actually misfired around the 40 round mark, but I feel it was the bullets fault. It was steel case garbage ammo, and I noticed it had a scuff mark when loading. I’ve put about 2000 rounds through it since and no issues
4th place : walther pdp- this gun could move up the list quick. I’ve fired around 550 rounds so far, and it’s been flawless, and shoots perfect. You could swap slots with my 43x but I haven’t used the cheapest ammo for this gun yet.

I'm allmost at 1 k with mine. I've had 2 feeding issues, both with Freedom Munitions 100 gr fmj. Blazer, Federal and Underwood are 100%.
I used to have one of those things. Trying to put a thousand rounds through it would be more torturous for me - specifically, my trigger finger - than the gun though. If I can’t train with it, I don’t carry it. It’s a nice gun for someone else though.
I bought a LCP2 when they came out but had malfunctions within the 1st 200 rounds. Ruger replaced the barrel and ejector. I've only 4qn less than 150 rounds through it as I'm afraid it will start having malfunctions. My Kimber Micro 9 got less than 1,000 rounds through it before Kimber reluctantly fixed it so I don't shoot that anymore either. Plus it kicks harder than my Glock 20 10mm pistol (Not kidding). And I'm not accurate with it either. I must be flinching because of the recoil. But I do love to shoot my P365 and P365XL, but they too have gone back to the factory 3 times each for repair with dead triggers and FTE issues. Sig replaced the barrel and slide on the P365 but at least the P365's can go a few thousand rounds before trouble. My PC Shield Plus was even worse with 2 trips back to S&W in less than 2000 rounds but it ran well yesterday while competing in IDPA. After my 1st Gen P10C developed firing pin breakages CZ replaced it with their 2nd Gen P10C. Really love this pistol with their upgraded trigger & frame. Dawson Precision fiber optic sights to fix the horrendous OEM sights, HB Industries trigger to fix the trigger hang up & better feel, rubber grip tape for better contact, Lakeline mini comp, & now is my favorite competitive pistol.

I’ve had a Taurus tcp for about 6 years now it’s a glovebox queen for the rare time I don’t have my edc maybe thinking of upgrading but I’ll tell you what 50 round through the tcp sucks in one setting can’t imagine 1000 rounds not very fond of 380 but it’s comparable or maybe slightly better than a sharp stick

I have the LCP Max Davidson's Edition, which has a better, lighter trigger and nitride slide and barrel. I see you installed the same night sights with orange front that I also installed. I've shot 1" groups at seven yards with mine and 500 rounds later, not one malfunction.
LCP Max comes from the factory with night sights. He didn't need to install those, they were already there.
@@johnrobinson1328 The factory version is night sight only in the front one and very dim, with plain black in rear. The aftermarket ones I installed are night sights front and rear and much brighter.

@@johnrobinson1328 Only the front factory one has tritium in it with a white ring; the rear one is just plain black. The set I installed has tritium front and rear and an orange ring. Much easier to pick up.
Those buckets used to 500 rds before covid. That's probably why it's only half full now

Couple of folks in the comments talking about how the LCP Max “is not fun to shoot.” Oh well. There are several UPGRADES out there to get the gun up to your personal respective “standards.” It’s gonna cost you though…anywhere from $25-$300 plus. I went with the high end (talon grips, hammer springs, steel guide rods and springs, lasers, firing pin springs, trigger etc) and it’s now SPECTACULAR💯. Why all this? Because it’s my hard earned money and I fucking can! The choice is yours. 🐸☕️

For the gun boomers that won't use xtreme defender, lucky gunner has a data spreadsheet on the best 380 hollows which there are only 2 of them.
Sig v crown and Hornady ftx are the only hollowpoints that actually expand in 380. While achieving the fbi protocol minimum penetration kf 12" needed for shots entering the side body of an attacker

Strange, my LCP MAX was far less reliable. Had the same failed to go into battery like 1 every 25 rounds, but it was perfectly clean
They're using the same size bucket for all calibers. 300 rounds of .380 is a lot less volume than 300 rounds of 10 mm or .45 ACP.

The max is still too bulky and heavy for me. I carry a Kel-Tec P32 which even works in gym shorts or sweatpants pockets.
The laser sight may be neat, but it makes the gun too big to fit into the pocket holster. :(
I had to send mine back after 100 rounds. The trigger stopped working. And it was shooting about 2 feet too low at 10 yards.
What was the problem and did they fix it? How has it been since?
@kennedypt I sent it in a week ago and just got it back today, pretty good turnaround time. The paperwork says they changed the trigger pivot, trigger bar, frame assembly, and barrel. It was tested for accuracy at 7yrds and looks good.
Hopefully it runs well now. I really want to like this pistol.
@@rascaille3792 Ruger has outstanding turnaround time. I had to send in a new model Vaquero a few months ago. Had the gun back in 5 days.
Same thing happened with my lcp2 22lr. Had to send it back twice due to the first service not fixing the issue. After the second trip back. I received a email that it cannot be repaired safely and they are sending me a replacement firearm.
I'm jealous of u guys w your ruger customer service stories. My khar p380 went back 4 times. It had MULTIPLE problems and never got fixed. They initially said they'd replace it but not only reneged on that but thought It would be great customer service to claim the problem was me. They claimed I was limp wristimg it. Never limp wristwd anything including glocks.

I want to love this gun but it shoots 4” low. Even bench rest at 7 yards, still 4” low. Sent it back to Ruger and they basically told me it was me, lol. I have glocks, Cz, smith…can do great groups with those guns. Sights suck on max!
It was definetly you my man. With modern machining, no gun is just gonna shoot almost half a foot low lol
@@jayoh8616 lol. You obviously haven’t been on the Ruger forum, it’s a common complaint with the lcp. I bench rested the max at 7 yards and all were grouped 4” low. I have Glock, Cz, s&w guns and can shoot all of them well. It’s hit and miss with the max as far as quality.

Recoil is equal to a P365.
Ammo cost is about doubled.
Power is about halved.
