    When first started running I wondered why. I later realized the why is mental health and clarity. Never questioned it again.

    Mate I know that feeling. I’m nearly 3 weeks back from a 6 week lay off with illness and Christmas etc with Brighton marathon looming and felt well depressed because I couldn’t get out. Comes back quick enough though doesn’t it. Brighton here we come! Best of luck

    Hi Chris, thanks for your update. I think we all question ourselves when we pick-up an injury or cold. I was hoping to do the 15mile south downs trail run in 2:30hrs but I had to readjust my goals when everyone walked single file during the sleeper parts and when the ground was boggy. The main purpose for me is about constantly improving my physical fitness, working with my inner voice, and seeking mini adventures to test myself. We must catch-up for a run soon...👊

    • @ThatRunningGuy

      Single file…I’d would have benn🤬 Would be good to catch up soon. Just getting used to the work and running balance. I hope you’re liking your new job

    I've covered about 300 miles in my Ride 15s. Less cushioned than I was used to (Nike mainly) but they have turned out to be really versatile and durable

    Welcome to the world of working in schools, Chris. We've both had exactly what you describe. It seems to come and go. You can carry on training but never optimally. About 4 weeks in now.
    Regarding coming home and running in the dark, we have to make it a habit rather than 'ooh look it's dark, cold and miserable, I've been at work all day let's go and pound the pavements'.
    Milton Keynes Marathon for Dawn.
    Shakespeare Marathon for me.
    Have you done either of those?

    That's hard, I've had a few injuries over the years, last October I was off for a month with a shoot Shine after I smashed myself on a marathon and now after falling off my bike I managed to fractured my hip so it likely I've got another 6 weeks off on top of 7 weeks before running but we will all get there in the end

    G'day Chris, Brighton is the goal and you were correct to preserve yourself for that event. Hope the cold is getting better. Unfortunately you are in a profession which will always present challenges to your health. Little ones catch everything that is going around, and love to pass it all along. Good news, in 12 months your immune system will be able to repel a runaway double decker bus! In the meantime look after yourself and hopefully you'll be using those fab new trainers shortly. Best as always, Phil

      I can’t wait to try the ride 15’s as I love my endorphin pro 2’s, which are the only Saucony’s I’ve ever worn. Went out for a short run yesterday and really enjoyed it. I hope things are good with you Philip.

      @@ThatRunningGuy Yes, Chris I'm doing well now. My Cancer checks have gone from 3monthly to every six months. I've been given the OK to travel and can get insurance to do so now. I'm back to looking fairly close to normal again, and I'm running. Not as far as I would like but it's joy to be able to knock out 4 runs a week and see myself building up. May be a half Marathon this year......

    First day I can breathe through my nose for a couple of weeks. It’s so irritating. Every injury I always initially think thats it I’m not making the big effort to get fit again but I always do. It is just natural especially as we get older and “closer to 50 than 45” like my kids keep telling me. Once you find a routine with the new job and training all will fall into place.

    Chris, I think it is quite common getting ‘depressed’ when injured. Experiencing that myself after 9 weeks with knee pains and not having been able to start training for Brighton (and London), so have soon to decide if Brighton is just going to be a training run, and maybe London too. Frustrating, but hopefully we will get over the injuries soon so we can start preparing properly, and then the motivation and optimism will come back quickly 👍

  • @leedaviesfitness
    @leedaviesfitness Před rokem +4

    Chris, from my point of view you should scrap trying to run fast all the time. That is just a recipe for disaster and constantly leaves you injured. Stop worrying that running easy isn't going to make you fit or fast. And ffs stop being so competitive. 🙄 you seriously need to change your running philosophy. Easy Running has made me win ultra marathons and kept injury away. Try training with no inhibitions and forget smashing sessions or park runs. Focus on the enjoyment. I can see that your completely beaten up by it all. But honestly, it will make you fall in love with running again and stop those injuries. Onwards and upwards

    • @ThatRunningGuy
      @ThatRunningGuy  Před rokem

      I know that this is something I do need to work on. Just so annoying that my last 2 injuries weren’t running related

  • @almckinnon1753
    @almckinnon1753 Před rokem +1

    Yeah I’ve been in that situation where you’ve just had enough with injuries and sickness. It’s hard to get back on it, but once you do it’s a great feeling. Just do it right, rehab, S&C, stretching as well as slow running before you think about speed sessions.
    I did Farnborough HM, it was freezing 🥶. I got a massive PB though and I have no clue how, as I had a extremely sore stomach and nearly gave up at mile 5.
    Take it easy and come back stronger.
