      Pete Johns Hey Pete, I am from India n I’ve been following your videos from a long time, and I try to solve the problems I face n learn new things in GB just with your videos... I want to thank you for ur contribution and request to continue the good work... One more thing I’d like to ask, now as I am mixing, want to know how can we place instruments n give them depth to make it sound stereo manually?? Using presets in audio recorder is a bit shallow n a point comes when u have used everything n it’s not satisfying u.. I’m sure u have faced this already, but m not able to find related video? If u haven’t already, will u make one? Please
      Regards from India ❤️❤️❤️❤️

      Thank you for not leaving my answer unattended. True, I am not strong in English, but I try very hard to understand you through a translator. I am from the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Sakhalin Region). I plan to come to America when the situation is better. I'm just now starting to understand. Do I need to download a plugin in order to install it? I searched for it and found it on some site, it was true that it was downloaded Rouhghriderr2 (2017), but I did not find it on my list. But when I downloaded the version of RoughRider3 from your link above, then I found it in the list. I was so happy, I couldn't get it for so long 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    I’ve learned so much from you over the past year. I had been using COOL EDIT PRO since 2003, so, switching to an entire new DAW and operating system after nearly 20 years (as well as taking a 7 year break from music) was quite an obstacle. I still haven’t been able to get the sound that I’m looking for, which is super frustrating, but you basically taught me how to use this DAW from day 1. Hey Pete - I've heard on other channels that duplicating the same vocal with delays or pitch shift creates phasing, which is generally undesirable. This is why the favored method is actually recording two separate vocal tracks trying to be as in sync as possible. Donald Fagen and Freddie Mercury are two notable examples. I wonder if there's a way of doing a more randomized thickening by varying pitch and time on a single track programmatically... would probably be an add-on.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  Před rokem +1

      There are a bunch of vocal processing apps and plugins that you can try, but like you I tend to find the best results come from actually recording another take. The natural variance really works well.

      You know what might be good? A standalone project with these set up so you can copy and paste in your vocal 8 times, merge it down, then copy and paste that merged track back to your original project?

    Your first "easy" method for thickening is a lot of work. All I do is duplicate my vocal track and pan each track about 8 degrees off center to opposite sides. Thickening done! Then I duplicate a separate track for effects. much easier than all the work you are doing.

    Sorry Pete, another question.
    I've just used this method with some pleasing results, on a rather weedy, thin vocal. But I found the AUPitchshift app impossible to control to get the right numbers and balance. The interface / slider was a nightmare. I even tried using an external mouse instead of the touch-screen, but it wasn't much better.
    In the video, you seemed to have a similar problem of "inaccuracy". Any tips to overcome this?
    Are there more controllable alternative pitch changing apps that could be used instead?
    Cheers!🤘

      Pete Johns Hi Pete. I've already made the presets as you suggest. But the number of cents in these presets is a bit off what was recommended as I couldn't control that accurately enough. So finding a better app for pitch control will be well worthwhile. Thanks!

    Hi Pete, a question about the fact you turn automation off.
    I get your explanation about independent control of volume on the new track.
    But, by definition, doesn't the new track have variation of volume along the timeline, just like the original did which is why you used automation? If so, doesn't this mean that the thickening effects won't be even on the track along the timeline? Won't the quieter parts still be relatively thin and the louder parts get disproportionately thicker?
    Or am I missing something?
    Cheers mate!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  Před 4 lety +1

      Hmmmmm..... I might be missing something in your question actually? I might need to review the video and take another look.

    • @infarction8840
      @infarction8840 Před 4 lety

      Pete Johns hi. When you made the copies of the original track, before you applied the stereo delay and pitch shifts, you made a point of turning off automation (which was copied over by default) in the new tracks to allow you independent volume control of the new tracks.
      As I said in my original comment, presumably you had automation in your original track to deal with volume variation. But then you don't deal with it in your vocal thickening tracks. So won't the end result of thickening be uneven along the timeline of the track?

    • @delperez1087
