No. 2007 makes its way to (the new) Darlington Locomotive Works.

- As part if the process of moving the contents of our original workshop to our new, bespoke premises in Darlington, we had to load up Prince of Wales and take the locomotive on a short tour of the town to deliver it to our new home. We are sad to leave the historic Hopetown Carriage Works but excited to be starting a new chapter in the extraordinary story of the A1SLT.

That lorry driver needs a medal. Superb job. What a loco !
Seconded. I'd love to have seen how that rig was turned 180° at each end of the journey, too
@@phaasch trailer can be towed or unloaded from both ends. Notice the loco was hauled backwards but was then facing towards the tractor unit when unloaded...
i was to write the exact same
This was a light load for him. It’s moving fully built locomotives is where it gets very interesting.
@@nikerailfanningttm9046 yeah, two trailer axles were raised as unnecessary.
Seeing the engine like this gives a good idea on how impressive this loco is going to look, and what a terrific piece of kit that trailer is too.
Wagon driver deserves a gong. Brilliant driving and a fabulously produced video. Good luck with the rest of the project. Mighty impressive stuff
This is just totally inspiring , to think in 2023 people will build a superb locomotive like this, well done all concerned, look forward to seeing it out in the wild !👍

The skill of that lorry driver....wonderful music & photography... total outstanding....
Genuinely impressed by how smoothly that trip went given it was the middle of the day with quite heavy traffic. Lorry driver is an artist
I started life at 15 as an engineering apprentice at The Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment. After nearly 40 years I ended up as Chief Design Draughtsman. Challenger 1 was the last. Now weeds are growing up in the car park and Challenger 3 is being made in Germany - ironic. Rolls-Royce engine replaced by a German one. Seeing No.2007 at least gives me some hope for our engineering future, but it's a very faint shadow of our past.
I think you would find a warm welcome in Darlington JP, many kindred spirits!
In the 50s/60s we were using German engines (under license) and transmission in our locos. I think the boiler for the P2 and Tornado are also done in Germany.
JP……you’ve just confirmed what I suspected. Design teams and manufacturing capabilities don’t grow on trees or the playing fields of Eton.
That closure along with the rest of the ROFs can be laid squarely at the door of Margaret Thatcher.
At least jobs are staying on the continent. Well, that's how put a positive spin on things (as an American) when I look at a tool, a pair of jeans, and so on and see "Made in Canada" or "Hecho en Mexico".
Massive compliments to the magnificent navigation done by the lorry driver.
Nah, he has steering axles on the trailer - what a doddle. Kind of like cheating..
@@frontagulus don't you know such long trailers just cannot be hauled without that?
Every time I see this I cant help but think: "This is history."
Impressive work - some skilled truck driving there.. And not every day you would see a loco like this rolling down the street !!
Seeing 2007 nearing completion gives me pride for a country I'm not from and unfortunately will likely never be able to visit due to financial reasons. It makes me wish us Yanks had more success at building 21st century steam locos. Cheers from America!
Prince of Wales is the biggest new build, but it's not the only one. In Wales the Ffestiniog Railway has just completed a new double Fairlie, and the Corris Railway has taken delivery of its number 10. There are several other standard gauge locos under construction at various sites in England, including a BR Clan class light Pacific. @silasfatchett mentioned Meiningen works in Germany - which is owned by DB, the national railroad company, has built the boilers for Tornado and Prince of Wales, several new narrow gauge locos for lines in eastern Germany, and repairs mainline steam locos for German and other European customers.
@@roderickjoyce6716 I heard about it
No, where there is a will there will ALWAYS be a way, particularly if money is the only obstacle. All the new build locomotives currently being constructed are not for glass cases in museums but for mainline operation by the many Locomotive Type (Class) Preservation Societies and private Railway Preservation Companies who own their own "historical" track . Having the Government owned Network Rail, (they own the Mainline Intercity tracks) sympathetic to the whole operation does help!!! Best of luck, creating your own luck!
Take heart buddy! The T1 Trust is busy making the components of Pennsylvania Railroad T1#5550, in fact, they're preparing to complete prep work on the frame!
@@centamangila1217 I hope they'll make more progress soon. Still wishing those various attempts at reviving a NYC Hudson came to pass.
Grüße aus Deutschland. Was für eine Arbeit, Bravo dazu! Dampflokomotiven sind und bleiben einfach das größte!
One hell of a good Truck Driver Loved it
Its only when you get a down shot you realise the hundreds of hours of work just making and fitting all the pipework inside the frame. And those wheels with polished rims look superb.
Looking a proper job now.
Legit, from a distance compared to say 2-3 years ago it really doesn’t look like much has been done.
Then you get up close and your jaw drops and the sheer amount of work done inside those frames
There's been a lot of work going on elsewhere as well Mike, in Irvine in Scotland, Ian Howitt's place and at Meiningen - this year will see the delivery of three huge components, the tender frames, cylinder block and boiler.
I hope someday I can come and see this beauty steam in person.
That's amazing driving - especially with the impatient drivers we have in Darlo. Can't wait to see the museum once it's finished.
I have to admit as awesome and superb the loco is , that was some skilled driving my the truck driver and support team
As a truck driver, hats off to that driver!!
Fantastic video it will be an amazing sight once it is completed and on the rails

I’ve not checked in on this project for a while and it was quite thrilling to see the progress made!
This locomotive is now one of my favorite locomotives, because Its's number is my birth-year
That movement is something right out of Euro Truck Simulator 2... Good work to the truck driver!
I can't wait to see the beautiful locomotive completely finished

I would call that a Smooth Move :)
Superb footage, that lorry driver has some serious skills!
This is going to be amazing. It already is of course and just when I am taking that in, the driving!. All the best to everyone involved and cannot wait to see this finished.

Can't wait to see you again
So beautiful. Already.
Great driving by lorry driver 👍🏻
Magnificent in so many ways!!
Thanks Tac, keep watching the channel for further updates!
Splendid video, very well done, what a great project this is. MrBrammoos👌
That trailer is a nice bit of kit! It can go around corners better than you might believe.

Wonderful footage, thanks for sharing.
Love the shed and railway at the beginning
Beautiful.
Just love the drone work!
WOW I am so happy for you again wow
Yes! A glimpse of her boiler as she rolled into the shed. Now work will speed up and the metamorphosis into a running engine will begin.
That was tornado boiler i believe

The Britt's, absolutely amazing, next they will be building brand new spots fitted with brand new Merlin's!!
She's a beauty
Lovely!
Great stuff.
The wagon driver is a bit 'tasty' too. Great piece of driving.
Thanks for the video.
Imagine being in one of those cars and you see a truck hauling a steam locomotive go past you.
You'll say, WOW! :))
SUPERB
Fantastic ❤
Damn boi, they got some shiny ass drivers on this thing! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That must have been a sight for the traffic.
Can't wait to see her steam! Great work all round.
This one was one lucky locomotive!🥺
Can’t wait for this thing to steam In the future , also for Tornado to return from Overhaul

Very nice
Looks like a brand new apple green tender in the back of the shed for her
It is! That is No. 2007's tender awaiting its frames and wheels, due for delivery this summer.

I think the description should have the link where people can donate.
Just this part of the locomotive looks amazing, hope it gets restored to it's former glory. 😀
Come on, pay attention at the back! 🙂 This is NOT a restoration! www.a1steam.com/prince-of-wales/home

@@thep2steamlocomotivecompan19 Eitherway it looks pretty awesome, hope all goes well. 😀
@@thep2steamlocomotivecompan19 Can I ask your view of the 5AT Advanced Technology Steam Locomotive? Just curious.
Very laudable in its own right James but not what we are about. Although we have 'improved' the design of our locomotives we have tried to preserve the original appearance of the prototype. The 5AT is a totally new design.
That trailer has to be atlases a million big 1s,to do all that steering and handle that weight,
What does SHOTED mean?
An excellent video looking forward to visiting her superb new workshop
Many thanks for sharing
I think it's a grammatical error! Shot.
I love new-build steam projects. I can already tell that the P2 will be a sight to behold when its done?
Also whats the deal with the Ruston 48 diesel at 1:26? Why hasn't that been saved yet?
I saw the part James may made!
2:01 Everyone is so focused on the steam engine, but they don’t even knows the tiny diesel rusting away in the corner. 😢
I sw that hopefully it can be restored
did you see the other diesel on the other side of the ruston
If you notice is the same workshop where tornado was build
3:49 you always find at least one impatient bellend
When will LNER P2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales be in steam?
In a few years time we will see that loco return to steam after the work is carried out
We appreciate your sentiments but have to point out that No. 2007 hasn't steamed yet! With your help we can bring that date forward. www.a1steam.com/p2donation#/
@@thep2steamlocomotivecompan19once work on her is done then history will be made 90 years after the first original P2 locomotive was built
Aren't all three boilers identical and therefore interchangeable, or so we have been led to believe?
That's my understanding
Seems to be missing the big steamy bit. How long until it is complete? A1 plus this one together will be awesome.
You can see the new boiler in the shed at the end
@@xxfyrezgamerxx6279 that’s Tornado’s boiler which the trust is doing the final rectification work to.
2007’s boiler is near completion in Germany and will be delivered this year.
And the cylinder block will be delivered soon also 😊
2025 is the planned completion date. Boiler and cylinder block due to arrive this year 🙂
@@mikesanders5433 thanks for this info, looking forward to seeing it ‘live’.
I’ve understood that it’s going to have exactly the same boiler as tornado so it makes overhaul time quicker and the boiler has proven very successful
Where does the line go to where the loco is being loaded up ?? Is it connect to the rail network ? What's the 37 and why is it there ?
The tracks outside the Hopetown Carriage Works are just a couple of redundant sidings with no possibility of connection to NR because of the super-elevation of the curve outside North Road station. This was a big factor in relocating our works to the other side of the line since there is already an existing connection giving us access to the main line.
Where is the new workshop located in Darlington? Is it connected to the national network?
Literally on the same grounds on the other side of Darlington North Road Station/Head of Steam museum. Its on the Bishop-Saltburn line, which can connect to the main line at Darlington Station.
🇧🇷🚂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
2:24 that white car was close to being hit , was it hit due to the frame cut ?
No! 😆
Didn’t see an overhead Gantry Crane in the new works.
We never had one in the old works and managed OK. A 'nice to have' but not, at this stage a 'need to have'.
What's gonna happen to the old building?
A display area for the new Heritage Quarter.
@@thep2steamlocomotivecompan19 Thank you, I was worried that the tornado building would be demolished.
Looks like all she needs now is the boiler and tender.
Funnily enough, both were sitting in the shed at the end.

@@leonkernan I wonder if that was the replacement A1 boiler instead. I'm aware they're interchangeable but I know Tornado is their priority currently
Where’s the rest of 60163?
with water bottle for scale!
what that its tender and boiler in the backround ?
The boiler is a spare for Tornado, P2's boiler is still in Germany
@@Gallrio That's Tornado's original boiler being refurbished. They haven't even built the spare yet.
@@18EStudios Oh, my bad
@@Gallrio when the boiler for Prince of Wales arrives?
tender is for Prince of Wales
Why is it being moved
The only true name for a P2 should come from a North British Railway Altantic locomotive.
Edward, "Shoted"? I think you mean Shot🤨.
what was wrong with the old engine shed?
Too small. Not connected to the main line ... the new shed will be connected to the main line and to the 1860s Stockton & Darlington loco shed a short distance away.
As good and superb as this loco' video is ,where is the boiler ? Tornadoes boiler was recieved from overhaul and needed extensive work here in the UK to get it right ,let's hope the P2 s boiler does not need the same amount of fettling
Quick question why is there sad music
Nothing of the kind, the music is not sad!
Why did it have to move workshops ?
They say to have a connection to the main line; you can find the answer to your question in comments here.
Couldn’t see a crane in the new works ?
...it's on the shopping list but not essential at this stage.
@@thep2steamlocomotivecompan19 Keep up the excellent work.
why is there a ruston 48 in the background
More importantly why has Lawrie not been alerted, he already owns two. What’s a third 😂
@@mikesanders5433 Inquiring minds want to know 😁
Can we have a video at NORMAL speed please ?
You could try adjusting the "playback speed" in "settings", the soundtrack will be slowed though.
Why is there a random class 37 in the background lmao
The 37 was the last locomotive to be built at Darlington in the old days of the works.
abnormal load 🤣🤣
if I had $5 million dollars I'd have them build one to USA specs & use lights from other USA made locos that were made 80 years ago 😉
I'm pretty indifferent to this engine. Also, to people wondering, this facility is less than a quarter mile from the original building. All the dramatic "we were sad to leave the Carriage Works" is just sentimental bunk. The new building is within view of the old one just across the tracks.
That's a pretty jaundiced view. Of course we were sad to leave the old building, some of us poured a lot of blood, sweat, tears and hard-earned into that building, spent many late nights (indeed nights) working there and commissioned Tornado there as well. If it had not been for the A1SLT the future of Hopetown Carriage Works would have been pretty insecure and the arrival of the Trust was, in part, the catalyst for the creation of the new Heritage Quarter.
If you're pretty indifferent to this engine, why bother to watch the video and comment?
@@roderickjoyce6716 Maybe to show himself off.
One day someone will choose a location for a works with easy vehicular ingress and egress for super large Trucks and Trailers !!
It will be easier once the site works are complete.
With the new works connected to the main line it might not need large trucks and trailers to do moves for the Trust
If you want to spend big money get other locos back on the rails, blue Peter,Maggie rose, for a start
I think you are missing the point and the entire ethos behind the A1SLT. Please take as look at our website(s) www.a1steam.com/tornado/about-tornado/tornados-story/the-full-story - These are 21st Century locomotives for the 21st Century, how much longer will locomotives that are already 80 to 100 years old be allowed to run on the national network? How many owning groups will now fit their locomotives with ETCS? By the way, Blue Peter is in the final stages of an overhaul and will be back soon, thanks to support provided by the A1SLT in lending our middle cylinder pattern.
Ah yes there’s always one in the comments 🙄 If you are so concerned about seeing 60532 and 46203 back in steam then which don’t you dip into your pockets and give to both of those trusts that own the locomotives, and you can thank the A1 trust in helping with the A2’s overhaul whilst you are at it.
@@mikesanders5433 I have donated to both and what I do with my money is my business
