Hey, you're gonna do the full attempt next time. Stuff happens. If it's any consolation, you have fast tracked people like myself on hiking. Lots of stuff you already know is you tube gold for a novice. You are making a positive impact on the world. I believe all young people would benefit greatly if thru hiking was part of physical education in school. When you learn, aside from the obvious: self reliance, ability to achieve goals, the value of minimalist nature, immersing your self in nature....there are so many more benefits.

Nice work Juice. I am also going for FKT on the Centennial Trail in SD next week. I am eating much of the same thins you are. I am taking 10,000 calories on my ATTEMPT. I hope to best what your crew did in May. I scoured the route by hiking it in June in 5.5 days and now I’m going for FKT. I wish u the best. I hope the altitude doesn’t cause you to many problems in CO. Lance Smith/SD

FYI. I only held the record for 4 days. Now it’s 54 hr 34 min. 2 guys that just hiked CT in Colorado did it faster. I am pretty sure I will give it another try. I’ve thought if many ways I can go faster and be more efficient.

They are scored down the middle and really easy to break in half. You still have to push a bit to get them in but they will fit.

Unfortunately things didn't go as planned. It was 95 degrees on my day one and my stomach turned on me at about mile 20. I spent the rest of the day throwing up but still got in close to 50 miles. I was hoping to rebound on day 2 but I immediately started throwing up again. Without any calories or water the fatigue set in and I was only able to get in around 36 miles day 2. I tried again on day 3 but immediately realized that the fatigue was just too much to put in 50 mile days. I hiked the 27 miles to Breckenridge and called it at mile 104.
Spent the night at a B&B and got some pizza. Felt great the next day and continued on just not at record pace. I ran into Darwin and ended up hiking the next 150 miles or so with him. Great trip overall but no FKT this time. Thanks for following along!

    • @juicehikes5436

The title of the video is "Backpacking Food." There's a difference between packing food for a short backpacking trip and a lifestyle choice in what you consistently put in your body. In my regular life, I eat very healthy but when looking into foods that are the highest calorie per ounce foods for something like a longer endurance event the options are typically not as healthy. The comment "Eat what the body craves" wasn't meant to be a lifestyle decision.
