    Thanks for the video. Every “solution” I’ve read or video I watched just changed out the part. I wanted to know why the part failed and if it could be fixed. My part didn’t have any corrosion like yours, it was covered in what I believe is white lithium grease. I removed the circuit board like you did and simply bent the 2 small contacts up a little and it appears to have solved the problem. The 3 contacts appear to be for the blinkers, and the other 2 for the wipers. Thanks for saving me the time and money of buying a replacement part. Cheers.

    I tried cleaning both parts twice on my 2016 Ford f150 the same way as you using the 91% alcohol but it still didn't work. I had order the replacement part and installed that after my failed attempt. I saw the comments about lifting the pins which seem to help our. I will try to play with this idea. I have a while to return my new one but I can't keep using the faulty one until it's fixed because it's driving me crazy. Thanks for the video, you did a great job!

    Thank you for this. Just fixed my 2016 Lariat with this same method. Cleaned the pins with a little air pressure. So, after coating the pins in the alcohol, and attempting a tissue, I put a little air pressure from a tire pumper thing.

It's be the same basic process. Pop old one out and put the new one in. DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER unless you really have too. This is far too easy of a DIY.

    Thanks for the vid. Did you say you reapplied the thermal paste or lithium grease, or just cleaned it off?

  • @GregThrasherTechGuy
    @GregThrasherTechGuy Před 9 měsíci +6

    That's not thermal paste on the connector. It's dielectric grease. It is nonconductive and helps keep moisture and debris out of the connector. If the problem IS being caused by a short at the connector, you should reapply dielectric grease before reinstalling. Btw...thermal paste is also nonconductive, so the same would apply with that, as well.
    The fix was probably from cleaning the other parts of the switch rather than cleaning the connector.

      Correction it IS thermal paste. the exact same thermal paste one would use on a CPU or transistor heat sinks. They use thermal paste grease on those contacts because they resist corrosion and can take the heat of the sun beating through the window/windshield on them all day during summer. What happens is the thermal paste gets old and dries up and starts preventing contact exactly like it does on an old CPU. The video is right on calling it thermal paste. Just my 2 cents.

      Yes it definitely works. My issue came back after a year or so but I took it apart and cleaned again and now it’s good.

    Way to go forward none of these vehicles are more than four years old and there’s 50 million people saying they’ve had this issue I would say that is a recall or better yet I will say I’m getting ready to get another truck was gonna get a Ford but I think I’ll try Chevy or dodge
