The problem with cell phone videos it never tells the whole story. What happened 20 minutes ago what happened two hours ago what happened yesterday? You know this guy might be on her last damn nerve but we don’t know because he only played his cell phone to make himself look good
I would like to hear at least the previous 5 minutes of this conversation. He turns his phone on discreetly and starts recording and acts all polite and innocent. Maybe he is but I am quite sure this was not the start of this conversation. Don't get me wrong though, she definitely needs work on her teaching skills.

I’m a trainer with a mega carrier, I would never talk to a student like that. There is no point in belittling your student and calling them retarded. Talk to them like they’re grown and that’s it. Your job is to be a teacher, not a dickhead. The only time over ever lost my cool with a student is when they fell asleep behind the wheel, not taking direction and almost getting me hit by a car. Other than that it’s all teaching.
Bingo I teach and the same time try to keep them relaxed with simple conversations and jokes here and there. Something like the paperwork I would’ve giggled and showed him how I prefer to have the documents organized. He asked a simple yet important question it required a simple answer
@@craigcross1504 well let me clarify not taking direction better then. My student at the time would not listen to the directions I would give him to get him set up for a straight back. Due to his inability to take direction the cars that had come up to the street we were backing on decided they no longer wanted to wait and started zipping in front of and behind me. Needless to say I was almost struck multiple times, all because he would not take direction on what way to turn his wheels for the maneuver and wasting a lot of time. If you don’t want to listen to what your instructed to do (especially on your first day) then you best believe I’m going to have something to say about it. Also later that night he fell asleep behind the wheel nearly killing us (had to grab the wheel to save us going into a ditch) despite me saying if you feel tired let me know I’ll drive. The fucking clipboard is minor to nearly being killed twice the same day…
I would have to call her out on her attitude for one, I’m not your child. I would call the company and ask for someone else, and tell the trainer your dismissed.
I did. My trainer was an a$$, he was going through some personal issues and took it out on me. Company routed me back to the yard and I got a new trainer who was born to be a trainer!
My wife and I went through CDL school at the same time and at one point in her on road training her instructor actually cursed at her for questioning what he was teaching her vs what a different instructor had told her the very same morning. Her instructor happened to also be a DOT tester but he was also 100% wrong with his information and he was later called out for his mistakes. He never apologized and only tried to just his actions. We resently celebrated our first year OTR. This just brought back memories.
I started driving in 2007. My trainer was a much older guy... probably in his mid 60s. He started out as a nice guy but I slowly watched him transform while we were out on the road. He started having these road rage incidents with other motorists, screaming, flipping them off and getting into altercations a few times with other truck drivers at truck stops. Then he eventually started getting lippy with me. I held my peace for a while but then he pushed me to the point where I had enough and we were verbally battling about stupid chit almost daily and none of it was even about driving. Me being mentored by him ended a lot sooner than scheduled and I was placed with another trainer. We got along great for the short time we were together. My first mentor, the psycho elderly man, he ended-up getting fired because of numerous complaints from motorists and his other trainees. That man had some serious mental issues.
The man had a valid question. With how bad DOT can be with all of their rules and regulations, I can’t blame him for wondering if there’s a specific order needed. For example like hazmat paperwork. That lady should not be a trainer. She doesn’t have the patience at all to be teaching a new driver. They are already scared just walking in the door let alone actually behind the wheel and on the job 🤦🏽♂️
the bar for becoming a trucker is VERY low, damn near none existence. you get/run into a lot of bogus ass people. like you mentioned she has no Business training, let alone speaking to anyone like that.
He doesn't know crap about the dot yet, except the little amt given to him by this time. If you haul hazmat, then you know precisely where that paperwork should be. In the hazmat book on the page that talks specifically about tge item or items you are currently carrying.
This women was definitely on a power trip. Being a trainer cam get frustrating at times. I get it, but there still needs to be some form of professionalism along with patience to deal with trainees on their journey to starting and learning about a new and potentially life long career
I understood exactly what he was saying. It was a legit question. He exercised great patience with her for a young guy. She needs to be more patient with trainee"s.
Once she mentioned him having a learning disorder, she is toast if he pursues it. We can feel absolutely whatever we want, but there are a WHOLE BUNCH of things we can't verbalize!

It was so simple but what we failed to realize is who he was dealing with. It's no winning with these type of people and when they know they are wrong they will use the power they have to try to beat you into submission.

If getting clarity is frustrating then don't be a trainer. Trainees will ask "stupid questions"...they're new. From now on, let all trainees assume they know or guess instead of speaking up. Let's see how that works out. Mind you, everyone idea of a stupid question is different so let them just assume it's all stupid questions and keep quiet.
Been there, recorded the audio and I'm picking up a new trainee next week... I guarantee you they will not ever go thru the bs I did .. which is very similar to what this guy went through. It's about respect, not feelings.
WOW. just WOW. My two cents as a business owner and employer since 2012. That women should loose her job. Second that guy deserves recognition for his respect and patience. That is NOT how you talk to anyone especially an employee or even more so a trainee that is already going to be a bit nervous. I don’t care what the debate was about. That behavior should not be tolerated. She had an attitude from the rip. I can’t fully speculate since I didn’t hear or see the whole picture. But by how he was acting and how she was acting, I put 100% out of line on the women and I hope she looses her job. I would be willing to bet she hates men, especially if they are African descent. I have came across quite a few with that trait. If there’s that much energy and negative energy at that put towards a piece of paper, there’s no where to go from there. No proper training can be done. Which may be why we are seeing so many incidents that point to lack of training.

Which is sad because that type of perspective comes from someone who was hurt or from others that were hurt and learned it from a 3rd party. Many great men and people of all ethnicities. I don’t know if that is the case with this women but she sure has issues and definitely shouldn’t be in that position. Motives at this point are really irrelevant. I’d fire her in a second if that happened under my watch. However a part of me also feels that firing the person won’t make the situation better. Honestly the right thing to do would be to see if she would be willing to go for some counseling or something to try to better herself. But that has to be by a willing party.
Man, I got my cdl through a driver trainee position at sysco foods. My trainer was awesome and never got agitated at me even when I was learning to back a 48 into a Panda Express parking lot. I saw other trainees that had trainers that would be screaming at these dudes as they we’re learning to back a pup to the dock at the end of the day. I was a trainer in a previous career which was very dangerous, you have to know when to be patient and when it’s time to push. This woman just hates her life and shouldn’t be getting the trainer pay she’s getting

going out with a trainer was horrible for me, I felt so miserable, but I knew it was going to get good for me later on, now I'm an owner operator, with my own fleet name. (leased on to a big carrier) one advice I can give to trainees is, keep it simple, place the paper in the paper cabinet and that's it, don't ask questions...it's obvious the guy in the video knew he was going to be talked that way, that's why he started recording...that means, trainer and trainee DO NOT get along, either look for another trainer which will make you waste time, or...like I said before, keep it simple, don't piss the stupid trainer off, so you can get the hell our of there as soon as possible by completing your driving hours, trainer does not want to be your friend, or does not want to have a friendly relationship with you.
As a fellow trainer I can speak from experience. Being a trainer requires a ton of patience and I mean a ton. I’ve trained drivers with permits to drivers fresh out of school. The way she was on them was petty to be honest. She could’ve simply showed him how she liked them organized when they stopped. Asking a person if they have a learning disorder is kind of disrespectful. Yelling and berating a trainee will most times rattle them causing more mistakes. We had a trainer that yelled and berated trainees well one day he did it to the wrong one and got his chin checked. No need to beat a person down who’s trying to learn. I tell all the trainees that the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask. Don’t assume anything ask me questions I’ll answer every single one.
I see a problem with both of them. When i started driving, i was given a trainer who loved to scream at me while he wanted me to hustle (tailgate) traffic. He would watch the mirror constantly to check my tracking, as did i. This caused him to wonder how i could drive thru rush hours smoothly, because i was ignoring him and not driving like a prick. He DID however, teach me how to drive under extreme pressure. I drew the line on him when he demanded that i hustle a schoolbus on the AA hwy in Ky. I said "no kids die because of a damn load, and I'm not telling their parents that their kids are dead because of a load."
I'm getting PTSD listening to this trainer. We all come across people like this once in a while I had a guy like this at the warehouse this morning. The best part was I in and out in about 20 minutes. I didn't say goodbye 😉 Most people are very cool Some aren't
So many people go to these two week driving schools and come out clueless. Then trainer have to deal with them. After a while you just get feed up with the stupidity. I stopped being a trainer two years ago because of it.
I first wanna say that being a trainer isn’t an easy job and it definitely isn’t for everyone. Secondly regarding this situation I would say that this was a pointless argument. I understood where the trainee was coming from considering he just wants to do a good job without screwing up. Now… this particular trainer probably shouldn’t be training or she just needs to understand how to separate her frustrations. Sounded like she was agitated by something else and the trainee caught the blunt of it due to what seemed like a pointless question. So many variables to uncover but bottom line everyone that is a trainer doesn’t necessarily need to be one.
My two cents. Teachers should be prepared to answer things more than once. Sometimes many times. And that there should never be a stupid question. Some people pick up things really fast. Some people need repetition and reassurance. We all learn different. If you’re not a patient human, don’t be a teacher. I think it’s that simple. And that’s not to say as a teacher you won’t run into someone that’s not cut out for it or (sorry) someone stupid. But it’s part of the job
Teachers get a degree and teach students. A trainer, trains, doesn't hold your hand every step of the way. It's the responsibility of the trainee to listen. It's the same way in college, in the military, even in the corporate world. He can always get another trainer.
Schneider training is hit and miss, I had one trainer that had psychological issues and was collecting a check for it. I had an app for my phone to record conversations with the company because my experience with them was not good
My trainer was pretty cool so I have never to deal with a bad trainer. Now I’ve been one for a few months and I’m brutally honest from beginning with my students of what I expect from them and what they should expect of me. To me no question is a dumb question you ask me as many times as it takes you to learn it. I’ll spend hours fixing one thing you’re doing wrong until you do it right. My effort+your effort= success
Ehh…my trainer was an ex Marine and it felt like I was back in boot camp. That 30 days, I did not have a name. I was just “driver”. Actual conversation: “Shift driver shift. Too slow driver. You just took out a family driver!! You need to be in 6 gear by the time you make that turn” “but I didn’t kill anyone” “Hypothetically you could of killed a family, driver” …I’ll say this tho. My trainer yelled at me for DRIVING mistakes….Not something dumb like this over where to put a paper….she needs to calm down
Second thing I’d like to add. If a trainer is acting that way with an attitude. It’s going to make the trainee uncomfortable and just wanting to blast through training and get it over with. The right questions won’t be asked and the absorption of information will be low. I treat my guys like family and with much respect and patience. For her to make a comment like that is borderline harassment if not harassment. Saying to anyone do you have a learning disorder is horrible and to say it how she said it is even worse.
I had a student I thought was retarded once. I asked in the nicest way possible if he was slow or had special classes in school, then in the same breath explained why I asked. I didn't tell or talk down because I really detected low intelligence. Before he could answer I asked if I needed to explain things differently. Standards of trucking are dropping and it's best to train them the best you can because they will drive next to you one day.
I did over 10 years of training and i'd just show people where the paperwork would go. didn't argue because when they get on their own they're going to do whatever they want with that paperwork. she just wants to have a fight.
As a trainer myself, you have to have patience when training people. You have to realize that nobody will ever do the same things you do. Everyone is their own person. So it seems this lady just wants the training pay and not really be a trainer!

As a trainer you have to understand the way your student learns. You can't teach the way you learn to a student. It doesn't work that way. Everybody learns differently and a good trainer modifies the way the program is teached for the students learning needs. She was very combative and accusatory which shows frustration. Looks like she's doing it for the bump pay and not the right reasons to help her student. Great show Keep it up!
I was a trainer at ps as an immigrant with broken English. If you are teaching something you gotta repeat yourself till they get it. I remember myself telling something over and over I got frustrated sometimes but at the end of the they we were cool. You get paid when you training someone you don’t do this for free anyway. Everybody is different some get so quick some get slow. Not everyone can teach it’s very hard but I always appreciate ps that they gave me this opportunity I loved the company, they always understood me and worked with me. The fact that she was belittling a trainee and spent time berating him for asking a question about what order she wanted in tells me that woman has issues. My yard trainers at the warehouse were the worst, my CDL school trainers made every effort to get me to succeed and they were tough but fair. There is no valid reason for someone in authority be it a manager or supervisor or even a coworker to be disrespectful on the job. I have to check myself sometimes, but give people a chance especially when they are new. Now get to work!
Is not common sense. Any company will have you do different things. When you turn in all of your BOLs for the week or all your receipts for the day does your company want them in a certain order? It's organization. If it doesn't matter then say that.

Being a trainer myself, she does not need anymore students. These guys already have enough pressure to learn regulations, safe driving practices, and company policy in a relatively short amount of time. They don't need anyone testing them like that.
I’m her coworker & what most of y’all fail to realize is that this trainee wasn’t following directions from day one. I know because I was on the phone with her most of the time while she was training him. This clip was recorded for no other purpose but to make her & the company look bad when she was nothing but patient with him from day one.

That "trainer" was completely unprofessional. If I had treated a new driver that way, I would be removed by My company as a trainer, and possibly fired.
Man bro I hope you read this. You do not have to take one bit of crap from any trainer. You are a grown man, and you should demand your respect. Call the actual company and let them know what's going on. Do the "I don't feel safe" move if you need to. If it's a decent company, they will put you with a new trainer immediately or just go get with another company and document/ record everything you are going through to cover your behind. You have more power than you realize. This person does not make or break your career. You are a commodity, so demand your respect!

I was a trainee and a trainer , I’ve been doing OTR for 10 years ..I haven’t even watched the video yet and I can already give my opinion, no it’s never okay for a trainer to yell or degrade a trainee period ! If you have to yell then you’re not training properly in the first place , and I understand that there are some guys out there that are slow as fuck , even then it’s your job as the trainer to keep your composure and remain how you were when it was your first year , and take a deep breath and teach him or her instead of scolding him ! FYI I listened as I was writing so I have a better opinion and she does not need to be a trainer , and my experience was amazing , I had a great trainer
I used to be a trainer for NFI. I used to show them what I do and how I do it with the paper/tablet. I will show them for the first 3days and after that they always got it. This trainers ask for that position just to get pay more but they hate training.
A good trainer is a patient one. If she wanted her paperwork the way she wanted it, just show them where it goes if they ask again do it again. It's not hard to be patient. Understand rookie drivers are coming into a cut throat industry and need to be shown how to do there job properly. It's no wonder the industry is the way it is now.

I’ve said this to a of times not only have I trained drivers but Marines….if you do not have patience to teach, you shouldn’t be training! These aren’t people that have been driving for a while. These are NEW drivers! You make it a stressful situation death can happen.
I'm not gonna lie I had a women trainer like this she was terrible. She would tell me to do something like I knew how to do it and the procedures around it
even if he asked 100 times, he is in training and doesnt know.. she should be more patient & humble, if she wants to train.. hopefully the company writes her up and sends her through some training on how to be a trainer

My wife and I went through CDL school at the same time and at one point in her on road training her instructor actually cursed at her for questioning what he was teaching her vs what a different instructor had told her the very same morning. Her instructor happened to also be a DOT tester but he was also 100% wrong with his information and he was later called out for his mistakes. He never apologized and only tried to just his actions. We resently celebrated our first year OTR. This just brought back memories.
I started driving in 2007. My trainer was a much older guy... probably in his mid 60s. He started out as a nice guy but I slowly watched him transform while we were out on the road. He started having these road rage incidents with other motorists, screaming, flipping them off and getting into altercations a few times with other truck drivers at truck stops. Then he eventually started getting lippy with me. I held my peace for a while but then he pushed me to the point where I had enough and we were verbally battling about stupid chit almost daily and none of it was even about driving.
Me being mentored by him ended a lot sooner than scheduled and I was placed with another trainer. We got along great for the short time we were together. My first mentor, the psycho elderly man, he ended-up getting fired because of numerous complaints from motorists and his other trainees. That man had some serious mental issues.
The man had a valid question. With how bad DOT can be with all of their rules and regulations, I can’t blame him for wondering if there’s a specific order needed. For example like hazmat paperwork. That lady should not be a trainer. She doesn’t have the patience at all to be teaching a new driver. They are already scared just walking in the door let alone actually behind the wheel and on the job 🤦🏽♂️

If getting clarity is frustrating then don't be a trainer. Trainees will ask "stupid questions"...they're new. From now on, let all trainees assume they know or guess instead of speaking up. Let's see how that works out. Mind you, everyone idea of a stupid question is different so let them just assume it's all stupid questions and keep quiet.

WOW. just WOW. My two cents as a business owner and employer since 2012. That women should loose her job. Second that guy deserves recognition for his respect and patience. That is NOT how you talk to anyone especially an employee or even more so a trainee that is already going to be a bit nervous. I don’t care what the debate was about. That behavior should not be tolerated. She had an attitude from the rip. I can’t fully speculate since I didn’t hear or see the whole picture. But by how he was acting and how she was acting, I put 100% out of line on the women and I hope she looses her job. I would be willing to bet she hates men, especially if they are African descent. I have came across quite a few with that trait. If there’s that much energy and negative energy at that put towards a piece of paper, there’s no where to go from there. No proper training can be done. Which may be why we are seeing so many incidents that point to lack of training.

Many great men and people of all ethnicities. I don’t know if that is the case with this women but she sure has issues and definitely shouldn’t be in that position. Motives at this point are really irrelevant. I’d fire her in a second if that happened under my watch. However a part of me also feels that firing the person won’t make the situation better. Honestly the right thing to do would be to see if she would be willing to go for some counseling or something to try to better herself. But that has to be by a willing party.
Man, I got my cdl through a driver trainee position at sysco foods. My trainer was awesome and never got agitated at me even when I was learning to back a 48 into a Panda Express parking lot. I saw other trainees that had trainers that would be screaming at these dudes as they we’re learning to back a pup to the dock at the end of the day. I was a trainer in a previous career which was very dangerous, you have to know when to be patient and when it’s time to push. This woman just hates her life and shouldn’t be getting the trainer pay she’s getting

going out with a trainer was horrible for me, I felt so miserable, but I knew it was going to get good for me later on, now I'm an owner operator, with my own fleet name.

one advice I can give to trainees is, keep it simple, place the paper in the paper cabinet and that's it, don't ask questions...it's obvious the guy in the video knew he was going to be talked that way, that's why he started recording...that means, trainer and trainee DO NOT get along, either look for another trainer which will make you waste time, or...like I said before, keep it simple, don't piss the stupid trainer off, so you can get the hell our of there as soon as possible by completing your driving hours, trainer does not want to be your friend, or does not want to have a friendly relationship with you.
As a fellow trainer I can speak from experience. Being a trainer requires a ton of patience and I mean a ton. I’ve trained drivers with permits to drivers fresh out of school. The way she was on them was petty to be honest. She could’ve simply showed him how she liked them organized when they stopped. Asking a person if they have a learning disorder is kind of disrespectful. Yelling and berating a trainee will most times rattle them causing more mistakes. We had a trainer that yelled and berated trainees well one day he did it to the wrong one and got his chin checked. No need to beat a person down who’s trying to learn. I tell all the trainees that the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask. Don’t assume anything ask me questions I’ll answer every single one.

When i started driving, i was given a trainer who loved to scream at me while he wanted me to hustle (tailgate) traffic.
He would watch the mirror constantly to check my tracking, as did i. This caused him to wonder how i could drive thru rush hours smoothly, because i was ignoring him and not driving like a prick.
He DID however, teach me how to drive under extreme pressure.
I drew the line on him when he demanded that i hustle a schoolbus on the AA hwy in Ky.
I said "no kids die because of a damn load, and I'm not telling their parents that their kids are dead because of a load."
I'm getting PTSD listening to this trainer. We all come across people like this once in a while

What happened to Trainers believing “There’s no dumb question?”. One of the inherent qualities of a Trainer is Patience, of which this trainer lacks.
I first wanna say that being a trainer isn’t an easy job and it definitely isn’t for everyone. Secondly regarding this situation I would say that this was a pointless argument. I understood where the trainee was coming from considering he just wants to do a good job without screwing up. Now… this particular trainer probably shouldn’t be training or she just needs to understand how to separate her frustrations. Sounded like she was agitated by something else and the trainee caught the blunt of it due to what seemed like a pointless question. So many variables to uncover but bottom line everyone that is a trainer doesn’t necessarily need to be one.
My two cents. Teachers should be prepared to answer things more than once. Sometimes many times. And that there should never be a stupid question. Some people pick up things really fast. Some people need repetition and reassurance. We all learn different. If you’re not a patient human, don’t be a teacher. I think it’s that simple. And that’s not to say as a teacher you won’t run into someone that’s not cut out for it or (sorry) someone stupid. But it’s part of the job
Teachers get a degree and teach students. A trainer, trains, doesn't hold your hand every step of the way. It's the responsibility of the trainee to listen. It's the same way in college, in the military, even in the corporate world. He can always get another trainer.

Now I’ve been one for a few months and I’m brutally honest from beginning with my students of what I expect from them and what they should expect of me. To me no question is a dumb question you ask me as many times as it takes you to learn it. I’ll spend hours fixing one thing you’re doing wrong until you do it right. My effort+your effort= success

Second thing I’d like to add. If a trainer is acting that way with an attitude. It’s going to make the trainee uncomfortable and just wanting to blast through training and get it over with. The right questions won’t be asked and the absorption of information will be low. I treat my guys like family and with much respect and patience. For her to make a comment like that is borderline harassment if not harassment. Saying to anyone do you have a learning disorder is horrible and to say it how she said it is even worse.
I had a student I thought was retarded once. I asked in the nicest way possible if he was slow or had special classes in school, then in the same breath explained why I asked. I didn't tell or talk down because I really detected low intelligence. Before he could answer I asked if I needed to explain things differently. Standards of trucking are dropping and it's best to train them the best you can because they will drive next to you one day.
If you feel he has a learning disorder, use your superior training skills to help him out.
I did over 10 years of training and i'd just show people where the paperwork would go. didn't argue because when they get on their own they're going to do whatever they want with that paperwork. she just wants to have a fight.

As a trainer you have to understand the way your student learns. You can't teach the way you learn to a student. It doesn't work that way. Everybody learns differently and a good trainer modifies the way the program is teached for the students learning needs.

I was a trainer at ps as an immigrant with broken English. If you are teaching something you gotta repeat yourself till they get it. I remember myself telling something over and over I got frustrated sometimes but at the end of the they we were cool. You get paid when you training someone you don’t do this for free anyway. Everybody is different some get so quick some get slow. Not everyone can teach it’s very hard but I always appreciate ps that they gave me this opportunity I loved the company, they always understood me and worked with me. Now I do local but if I ever go on the road again I would def call them back.

The fact that she was belittling a trainee and spent time berating him for asking a question about what order she wanted in tells me that woman has issues. My yard trainers at the warehouse were the worst, my CDL school trainers made every effort to get me to succeed and they were tough but fair. There is no valid reason for someone in authority be it a manager or supervisor or even a coworker to be disrespectful on the job. I have to check myself sometimes, but give people a chance especially when they are new. Now get to work!

I’m her coworker & what most of y’all fail to realize is that this trainee wasn’t following directions from day one. I know because I was on the phone with her most of the time while she was training him.

I was a trainee and a trainer , I’ve been doing OTR for 10 years ..I haven’t even watched the video yet and I can already give my opinion, no it’s never okay for a trainer to yell or degrade a trainee period ! If you have to yell then you’re not training properly in the first place , and I understand that there are some guys out there that are slow as fuck , even then it’s your job as the trainer to keep your composure and remain how you were when it was your first year , and take a deep breath and teach him or her instead of scolding him ! FYI I listened as I was writing so I have a better opinion and she does not need to be a trainer , and my experience was amazing , I had a great trainer

I used to be a trainer for NFI. I used to show them what I do and how I do it with the paper/tablet. I will show them for the first 3days and after that they always got it. This trainers ask for that position just to get pay more but they hate training.
A good trainer is a patient one. If she wanted her paperwork the way she wanted it, just show them where it goes if they ask again do it again. It's not hard to be patient. Understand rookie drivers are coming into a cut throat industry and need to be shown how to do there job properly. It's no wonder the industry is the way it is now.
