I have had great success with the XTR 4 piston up front with a 203 rotor and 2 piston in the rear with a 180 rotor. I also love the look and feel of the carbon levered brake sets from the two piston set and can report they work exceedingly well even with the four pot up front. A little mixing and matching but a great setup. Beautiful new bike! Enjoy.

Nice! Have the black one myself. Your channel is the reason I bought it, wait, your channel was the reason I bought my Hightower. You had that red one. Got my Ripper around New Years 2021, since then I put 3k miles on it. It needs some tlc and its tore down right now, suspension, new chain ect.
I bought the new SJ EVO, riding that until the Rippers ready. On your vid, you said the EVO didn't climb like you like, I changed the steering angle to the steepest, 65.5, and it climbs so much better. Just for your own info.

Bought my v1 Hightower largely based on your review a while back. Seemed to be the best of all worlds. I do feel it’s a bit much for the Midwest where I live, but it will never be outgunned in Sedona etc. I do think the going from 140/135 to something more like yours could help a bunch. Think my ht with Carbon wheels clocks in at 30lb. Been gutted to miss the podiums around here and when I factor in the weight penalty (and me wearing a full camelback 🤣). Most of our little races have been canceled but I cannot wait to get back out. Thanks for always bringing the hype!

Took my new V4S out for its maiden voyage yesterday. Mostly cross country trails with some pretty big gaps and a 4 ft. drop thrown in there. It's a nice ride although not significantly better or more capable than my 2017 aluminum BMC Speedfox. I def. noticed the 2 deg. slacker head tube and the lighter weight and quietness though. Pedaled slightly better but the BMC is a pretty nice, underrated platform. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it.

Sick build Jason! For the added 8 grams, I take the EE Wings for durability. I'm 215 without a pack and jumping and chunk, I've cracked several carbon cranks. EE wings take everything I can give em' and never an issue. I run 170mm because I can't find the 165mm any where! You get what cha can in today's world. E13 crank weight 170mm (372 grams), EE Wings 170mm (379 grams, my scale said) I'll take the 8 grams for durability. It's all good though, ride on Jason.

I can only afford one bike at this time in my life (kid factor).
Occasionally I do long 50 mile +/-cross country rides / easier trail rides, would you invest in a spare set of rims with faster rolling tires to switch out or just put that money towards saving for a Ripley?
What kind of rims and tires would you get for like the Zen type of dirt.

I just built a new Ripley V4S. 26.9 lbs without going too crazy.(and without pedals). Went with an XT 10-45 cassette, XTR short cage derailler and a 28T oval chainring. Saves a little weight and protects the derailler a bit better and looks better not having such a large pizza on the back wheel. . Nobl TR35 wheelset on DT350 hubs with 2.4 Rekon/Disector tires. Did not go 240's as I hear there are some reliability issues and they cost a lot more. FWIW, the V4S is 0.4 lbs heavier than the V4 according to IBIS. Future upgrades may include an EE wings crank. I thought about going SRAM cassette and chain to save some weight but the ratio jumps in the lower gears are not ideal for me. I wish they made a 10-45. I might do a 10-51 12 speed XTR hack and cut off the large ring. Gets it down to XX1 weight. Shimano did sell an XTR cassette like this (11 speed with 12 speed gear spacing) but only in very limited quantities.

The Knolly Warden I ride weighs in at 33lbs. I think with all the lightweight upgrades you've done to that Ripley I may be able to drop it to 31?? LOL. On another note, I haven't really noticed a difference between the 4 piston XT brakes on my Warden and the 2 piston SLX brakes I'm running on my hard tail.

Nice Ibis. What pedal are you running, XTR? You posted weight while no pedals on the bike? So bike will be roughly 2/3lb heavier correct? Are you running 120 or 130 up front? Med frame right? Big fan of the E13 XCX crank also, had run it on all my bikes and still have on one but after putting eeWings on a new build, the CC sticks are MUCH stiffer, noticeably so for me..... at 6'2 175lbs. I was a Ibis fan boy for years and had one of the first 100 original Mojos circa late '05, then Mojo SL, then HD, then they fell behind the 29 revolution and I switched off Ibis and haven't looked back since.
My trail bike is a YT Izzo set at 130/140, XL, full XX1 AXS, Roval Control SL Hoops, Schwalbe 2.4 Wicked Wills, Trickstuff Picola HD stoppers, eeWings, Bikeyoke Devine SL, Kogel ceramic bb, King h/s, RF Turbine R stem, OneUp riser.....25.5lbs with HT T1 pedals and a cage.

My buddy Zac broke two Reserve wheels in 2019, and went back to alloy as he rides like a bat outa hell. For me, I prefer the Salt wheels to anything else!! I would really like to try the KS LEV Ci for weight savings but it's hard to give up on the Bike Yoke Revive which is so dang smooth and has the reset bleeder valve for easy maintenance. How do the e*13 xcx carbon cranks compare with XTR, is the weight savings a whole 200 grams, what about flex? I can get to 25 lbs with XTR pedals if I make these changes.
