Part of the issue is that I think ATA is being as objective as possible. The problem is that police are held to such a low standard and their policies are so lenient that an officer can technically do nothing wrong even if the interaction and their treatment of people is horrifying and infuriating, if that makes sense.
Something I always think about in situations like this is how some departments needed to implement policies prohibiting officers from having sex with their detainees. Excluding the obvious, I can’t think of a single other job that you could possibly think it’s ok to have sex with anybody on the clock and very likely in company property (their cruiser), much less a situation with a power dynamic like an officer and a detainee which is a situation that’s impossible to properly consent. How can something like this happen so often a policy needed to be created? I mean imagine just these two possibilities:
A: Cop says if we have sex I’ll let you go or drop some charges, suspect agrees. They finish and cop continues to take them to jail, cop lied.
B: Cop and suspect have consensual sex with no expectation of quid pro quo, they finish, later suspect accuses cop of rape.

The video being referred to above is one where a cop tried to pull over a bicycle for not having a white light at night and the guy kept riding and the cop got out and tackled the rider to the ground and separated his shoulder (the cop's shoulder) and added the felony charge of something like resisting causing bodily harm to a cop or something like that along with eluding and another charge or 2 that were technically justified and the cop got a good grade while the rider got an F. In all technicalities the cop did legally allowed things but pretty clearly used a bit of excessive force and got injured by the choice to tackle that he made instead of trying to grab and stop instead. There were a lot of comments on the video that said the cop deserved a much worse grade for tackling as a first option and adding as many charges as possible to a guy who didn't pull over for not having a bicycle light. I suppose technically the cop deserved like a B but got a higher grade and people didn't like it. I would say he deserved a C because that's average and being excessive as a first option is average for police and often justified legally.

I was pulled over for a "third brake light out". I knew it wasn't out because I had just replaced all of my car's lights a week prior. Additionally, the third brake light was not a single bulb, but five bulbs connected in parallel. Veey unlikely chance that all five brand new bulbs had burned out in one week. I didn't argue it. I received my ticket and went to court. I FOIA requested the dashcam from the officer's patrol vehicle. Footage showed all of my brake lights working. Citation was immediately dropped.

But if you can get inside your house, then you are home free. Sortof. Thanks to a relatively recent Supreme Court decision that says running from a traffic stop does not give cops the exigent circumstances that are required to break down your door without a warrant. But hey, you at least get a reprieve. Maybe they'll wake up a judge for the warrant, maybe not. As a cop friend once said "I ain't chasing someone across a highway and over fences all over a 15mph speeding infraction where they probably have a misdemeanor warrant or outstanding child support they're running from--we've got their car, and they're going to want it back. We'll pick 'em up then after they've calmed down".

@invictusbp 1 prop143, The driver contends that the officer who stopped him must explain to him why he was stopped before surrendering his license. In general, law enforcement officers must have reasonable suspicion of a crime or traffic violation to make a motor vehicle stop. Unless there is a department policy, that the officer must inform the driver of why they were stopped. Technically the driver doesn't have the right to dictate to the officer that he's going to wait for a police supervisor or an FBI agent before surrendering his license. There is no law or case law that requires a police supervisor or an FBI agent to be present at the scene if a driver requests it.

Loads of people with severe issues pass relatively unnoticed by others most of the time.
With this particular person, I do not know what is going on with them. Maybe nothing, maybe something. It's rare for media outlets to get ahold of bodycam footage (usually only in very publicized cases), let alone CZcams channels. Usually most of the interrogation/bodycam footage released to the public comes from the CBC which usually releases it with little to no commentary (hence why Canadian footage is sometimes seen on these channels). AFAIK, this is due to research showing that publication of violent crime only encourages more violent crime in the area in which the initial crime occurred, along with our focus on rehabilitation (if someone's name is out there for something they did as a teenager 20 years ago, it makes it impossible for them to get a job.). @@interestedparty00 Agreed, but in this case the guy not only refused to show ID, he sort-of said he didn't even have a license, which would be an arrestable offense. I'd be willing to bet that's the reason he ordered the guy out.
The thing is, the third light is on at 5:37, so the reason the cop gave for pulling the guy over was BS.
