My name is Vicky and I hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a specialization in Geriatrics. I am also a Certified Dementia Practitioner. I have been a dementia caregiver for over 20 years, and I love to help people problem solve when difficult behaviors arise. I just want to say thank you for being there for Dementia caregivers. I wish I had found you years ago! I cared for my Gran who had dementia for 20 years. It was a journey of heart ache and pain at times, but also a lot of love, growing, learning and Grace. I would not change my experience for anything. It was an honour to love and care for her and for my children to learn to be empathetic and love unconditionally.

Thank you, I don’t know weather I am happy or disturbed listening to this. I have come to realize that I have been on this path for at least five years, and I have been going to the Drs complaining of many of the symptoms until I realized that I was just a bag of parts with no diagnosis. There are few tests I have not had for each complaint. That led me to despair and decided not to ever go to a Dr again and hope to die. Surprisingly this info has brought me some relief for now I know. I have been accommodating nearly all of the symptoms near to Stage 5 now. I am not fearful of the future, at least I am prepared.

I have sat and watched almost all of your videos and you have lightened my heart and allowing me to understand that I am doing absolutely on the right path. I am a mental health caregiver myself but the moment things became a little difficult because if became personal. I have went through different stages with processing. It was told to me in the beginning I was just reacting and doing a great job but I didn't have time to process anything. The main point for me is to say Thank You what you are doing is amazing and will help others feel ok about themselves and the efforts they make. Thank You.

I have a kitty like yours but not a long hair. He showed up in our carport at only 5 weeks old. He was covered in fleas. I said we can’t keep him. I had just taken in a feral pregnant kitty that had delivered four kittens only two months before. And I was still having them spayed and neutered and placed in good homes. So no way was I going to take in another one. I agreed to get him treated and baby shots. But you know things happen and don’t always work out like you plan. He is now a year old. And he is gorgeous! So loving and kind. Really smart. He Really has been a blessing to our family. I am convinced that angels send kitties to your home for a reason. My father in law has dementia. He is beyond stage 5. And lives with my husband and I. The kitty showed up the week he came to live with us. We call him Hymi. As he is a Himalayan. My father in law calls him Timmy. But that’s ok. He has brought a lot of joy to our home and especially to my father in law. We are in for the long haul. As the other family member ran as fast as she could. My husband s sister. But that’s ok we got it covered. He (Fred )seems to be happy and in better physical condition now that he gets his medication and meals on time. Thank you this video was very helpful. My husband was diagnosed a year ago and disease is progressing faster each day. He’s 73!
My husband passed away in March. Went for a walk to never return. Found 9 hours later in ravine. Died shortly after that In hospital

I just discovered your video. Love it. Q: my husband is in long term care in a nursing home. He calls out during the night and disturbs everyone else. He then sleeps most of the day. With this little bit of information, can you tell me what stage he’s in?

Love your videos. My loved one you described perfectly in your paranoia and accusations video! What if your loved one will not see a doctor and does not acknowledge she is having any issues and deflects on everyone else, which I understand is to be expected?

Grace, I think your so clear and gentle when explaining all that you know (- my husband who I suspect
is gearing towards this illness) he is 86yrs and has changed drastically- his anger is demonic- never before
have I witnessed this behavior- I constantly advise him to take an MRI-
other characteristics include anxiousness- confusion-irrational solutions- forgetfulness etc.
my question is : the 1st sign (behavior) was his ANGER- currently it is at its worse-
you mentioned this in this video- (changes in behavior/attitude)
am I correct in my assumption? basically I know the test will answer all my questions-

not only is he getting older & more angry - bitter- and resentful........

I love you and all of your videos, My Mom is somewhere between 1 an 7 it is very confusing to me, Mama is 91 and her 3rd husband died but before that he cleaned out their bank accounts gave it all to his kids and he passed away he was 98 and must of had dementia but anyhow Mother has gone through so much like they say she has scabies and now she has been put in a room alone so a last year and 1/2 we have all been through the wringer. Thank you...my mom was diagnosed about a year ago and it scares me to death. I am also terrified I will get it but I know that is common to have that worry. My mom has some other issues as well that make living with dementia even more challenging. I would like to contact you to discuss at some point. You are very comforting and love your accent ❤️

What confuses me are Alzheimers and vascular.i thought Alzhiemers was where they wander, or get abusive or really angry,have hallucinations etc..My Mom (she passed) didn't have any of those, she just forgot everything and got more quiet. Like she couldn't initiate a conversation but never had those other symptoms. My mother in law who is still with us seems to have the same thing but they did a brain MRI on her and the doc just said Alzhiemers.She was diagnosed a few years ago and she has definitely forgot more and more (like where she put things) or something she asked a few minutes before, she'll ask again. She still does crossword puzzles and word finds.It's so sad...I'm just glad that my Mom passed before she maybe had some of those symptoms,who knows if she would have? You're right about reasoning,decision making etc..she's losing that too.
Vascular tends to primarily, initially affect, personality and physical ability. Alzheimer’s primarily affects the memory. As dementia ages, and they get deeper in the stages, most of the dimensions meld into similar presentations. In my experience.
