Very helpful. Thank you. I've been flying the Gazz for awhile now and never bothered to learn the Nadir because it seemed so intimidating. This really simplified things. Much appreciated!

8:58 is where the NADIR part starts, FYI 2 ADF beacons can also be used for a nav fix. If Beacon 1 is 230 degrees, beacon 2 is 154 degrees. Get out your chart, draw a reverse azimuth from the beacon. Do the same for the other beacon. The point where the 2 lines cross is your position. (Note, does require a ruler and map. In this case, the F10 map.)

Nadir is a neat little navi.

Good to see the Gaz in GR tutorials, Cap. As Stahl said, the NADIR system in conjunction with the camera and laser range finder are excellent scouting tools. We've used them to good effect on the training server when playing Shiftie's Battle for the North or Capture Kobuleti. Be good to see them incorporated into some GR missions.

Thanks for the video, was looking for something on the NADIR. Fyi, ADF is the instrument NDB (Non driectional beacon) is the station. To fly a proper NDB approach usually requires a DME (distance measuring) not sure that is in DCS however. The outer and inner beacons you refer to are part of the ILS system, unless it is a European thing I never done an approach with two beacons. They also usually require much better visibility like 5 miles as opposed to a CAT III ILS with 300 - 500 ft sometimes lower RVR. NDBs are phased out in the States, having been replaced by GPS for non precision instrument approaches. I used to really enjoy teaching NDB approaches they can be quite challenging for new guys. In the military we rarely used ADF for anything. If we did any radio navigation it was on TACANS/VORS, and usually we only use those to verify points on our flight plan.

As above, An ADF is only good for a general direction towards the NDB. no ranging unless there is DME equipment in the aircraft. An NDB, has no relevance to any inner, middle, or outer marker. That is unless you are flying an ILS approach where you would tune the frequency to the nav radio. Also, ILS approach is more commonly nowadays being replaced with RNAV/VNAV approaches. In modern aircraft nowadays, the EGNOS system is being implemented, using a MMR system, to reduce pilot workload.
