    Had fun watching this one.
My controversial take is that Lords of Chaos is in a lot of ways a more accurate re-telling of Mayhems story than what we have in our heads. Sure, the film takes creative liberties, but the one thing it really nails is that Mayhem and Varg were just a bunch of kids doing dumb stuff, making music and trying to out evil eachother. The mythologised version a lot of people have in their head cannon is likely just as innacurate.

Black metal not having to be satanic, it being nature, pictures.. that nails it. Do you have an interview where he said that?
I have never gotten into Dissection. Just doesn't work for me.

The part about bands and their people being shitty is so real. I love the genre and it sucks that so many of them are racist or homophobic or abusers.
Metal, especially the extreme stuff, attracts the worst people. The genre has somewhat become a safe space for shitty people, and its allowed for shit to fester and twist what metal is. At the end of the day, it is just music, and it won't stop me from listening, but I wish it wasnt so

IMO BM is at its best when it's exploring emotion such as wanting to blow your head out with a shotgun or looking back at the past and reminiscing on it instead of " hail Satan and Hitler, do crack and abortions too"
Also for me and a lot of other people, dsbm is therapeutic because the extreme sound complements the lyrics of the song in how extremely grim it is and it helps people know that there not alone in these feelings. Although it can make it worse with bands romanticizing depression or encouraging suicide.

So, when it comes to DSBM, I can see both sides of the coin. It's probably my favourite subgenre of Black Metal, but the issues are clear as day.
A guy like Niklas Kvarforth is just embarrassing because he actually acts like he's promoting s**cide as a good thing.
On the other hand, I think music or another art form can be a good outlet for coping with mental health issues and can help others who feel the same way by letting them know they aren't alone.
However, this works best in conjunction with actual therapy, and you should always seek therapy first as a main priority.
