One word for tips for great live lofi sounding black metal guitar tones besides using a cheap tiny amp maxed out to oblivion minus bass and presence would be to get any amp with the distortion channel maxed out along with volume and to put it inside a washing machine or big old old metal trash cans. Those damn things reverberate the shit outta the sound really make it sound even brighter more metallic sounding. I am passing on this technique because I seen a friend doing this in order to achieve unholy grail of lofi black metal guitar tones.

I know we are probably hearing different things, being in the room at all, but i actually think you started with a pretty decent black metal tone. It's think it's hard to judge (for lack of better work), how great a BM tone you ended up with, because you spend most of the video chugging, which is not something i really associate with Black Metal. Otherwise cool video.

Happy for you, all about playing and enjoying the sounds you’re making!
I personally didn’t like the sound of the Katana so I went with an Orange crush 35 r/t and f’ing couldn’t be happier.
You can try one in your local guitar shop for fun if you want to know what I mean. I’m playing on a Esp Ltd ec-401 traditional heavy Beautiful single cut with Seymour Duncan pickups. Perfect tone for playing a song I started playing “I am the Black Wizards” by Emperor!
What guitar are you playing and what song are you working on? I usually make my own riffs etc. but am focusing on getting some songs down for fun!
Worry not if this comment is too much, keep playing and enjoy whatever sounds good to you. ☯️

  • @andrewmurdock4614

People with non active pickups things will look very different settings wise on the gain...my settings :gain2-3 oclock bass:8-9oclock trb:9oclock mid:8-9oclock and if your able to tweak your mid freq to be more on the higher end helps with clarity of chords ect. For the guitar playing the lead lines I just boost this with a tube screamer vol maxed tone mid way gain at 0...and this is done with a metal zone in the efx loop return with tube screamer.

I used one a week and a bit ago and found it's really good for all the BM lead lines/solos/gojira scrapes. I ran 3/4 guitars through it and didn't need to adjust any settings and got a sweet shrill guitar sound. Mostly used a guitar with passive pickups

I set up a frequency split at 250 Hz and set only a Compressor on the lows. Everything above 250hz goes straight into the obisidian7000(darkglass b7k model) with around noon settings on everything except presence and gain which i back down a little because its a bit to much sizzling.
The sum goes back into an IR of an 8x10" cab miced with a 121 ribbon into the PA on one side and into an ebs reidmar amp with an FMC 15"+10"+3" speaker on the other side.

    • @birdsteak9267

A guitar and a Bass both need to find equilibrium, meaning: The guitar and Bass might sound shitty individually but when the frequencies mixes it sounds good as far as a BM Band sound goes.
3 years ago, you have probably figured this out, but always sit down with the mates on the other instruments, take good time, even if it takes a week, to build that magical equilibrium that makes the hair on your back rise.
