I HATE the new cans. Supposedly it was designed to keep the gas from spilling but all it seems to have accomplished is to make sure you spill gas all over the place. Great ideas!
+SouthJerseySound Yep...and not to mention they are made in China that has absolutely no regard for the environment in their mfg. processes or the workers that make them.
you can thank a California politician for pushing for stricter ridiculous laws. one of California recent great blunders was mtbe along with many other laws infringing on people's rights.
Dude I swear to God if I ever run into you I'm going to buy you a beer!!!!! Why in the hell did I not think of this?? These cans are the biggest pain in the rear. Thank you very much!
I agree even i never touched thid type of can. In lithuania we just use old canister from coolant, oil or similar. Just unscrew cap and fill your tank via simple adapter you can buy. Pour like cola in a glass LOL.
Gerald Thomas Thats how we do it. I start my 98 Opel Vectra, Throw in some 20 liter canister in trunk, go to fuel station and fill em' up with diesel fuel for our tractors for whole season. These canisters are like 10-20 Years old. But i guess theres not much to go wrong with simpe cap. Reliable, and i do not see any danger. And we drive with lights on always. It is the law :D
These Safety gas cans spill more fuel than if they didn't have the mechanism, when you push down the lever for the valve, the switch gets stuck then slips off the edge of the gas hole and spills all over your pants, you then slip on the fuel, onto an angle grinder that catches you on fire, and burns the house down. lol
And, then your burning house catches the neighborhood on fire, the fire chief has a heart-attack while attempting to rescue your neighbor's cat from the flames, and his grieving widow is left to pick up the pieces of a life in shambles. All thanks to that wretchedly evil Safety gas can. :-(
I love the cans with the tube stored inside... those are the best. This is another classic example of lawyers, who have never touched anything other than a pen and paper, making life more difficult for those who actually make the world go around.
I have found the valve stems rubber softens with gas contact, but do work as a vent. I like the idea about the pump sprayer...gonna have to give it a try.
Very nice and also helpful. I went a bit further though. Since those pour spouts have always leaked for me causing me to spill more gas in a single fill up than they prevent evaporation or accidental spills I decided to just go to Rural King or Menards and buy a straight spout to replace the toggle handle pour spout. I had to keep the lock ring for the top though since the 2 rings provided with the spout I bought did not fit. I took a hack saw and cut the whole spout off of the ring just above the ring and the whole thing went in the trash minus the ring. The spout even comes with the yellow air inlet to prevent a vacuum while pouring. I wish the spout I bought had come with the correct ring because then I would not have had to cut off the spout with a hack saw I would have just thrown the whole safety spout in the trash.
I just ordered 25 caps for nearly $10.00. I could have only ordered one but people I know will probably mine and want them. What I have done till now is drill a 1/16" hole in the top handle of the gas can. It is hardly visible unless you look to find it and it at least prevents the can from shrinking and expanding every time the temperature changes. That will cause cracks in the plastic if these cans are not allowed to breathe a little. I had the hole MUCH smaller than that with some carbide PCB drill bits I got from Harbor Freight. Some of those bits are so small they break at the slightest twitch when you use them. I use my Dremel as the drill on the first speed. You need a fast and precise drill and that is why I used the Dremel because they do not work well in a regular drill unless you have the most steady hand. The Dremel can get the job done so fast you hardly have time for the chance of accidentally breaking the fragile bit. They may be fragile but just brittle. I have drilled into some tough stuff that would ruin a steel bit the first time and every time. If the EPA ever wants to ban them I will buy a very large quantity of them. I would be like that guy on Seinfeld who had the high flow shower heads. Metaphorically speaking, we are the ones with the low flow heads who can't get the shampoo out of our hair because of stupid laws that make no sense what so ever.
Hey Steve !!! Man I have not Purchased a New Fuel Can in Quite sometime !!! What a Pain in the Wazootie !!! Gonna take real Good Care of my old Ones !!! The Wheels are always Spinning in the Beekeepers Brain !!! Awesome Mod Steve !!!
I was just ranting on this subject. Man you hit the nail on the head. Very happy you are still safe!!! I can only hope and pray that all of your inside house pillows have their tags on them.... Also do not eat high fat foods and drink sodas while trying to pour fuel
Don't just rip those parts off. Place them in an envelope addressed to the EPA with a little 'Kiss My Ass' note attached. Once they get enough of those they might get a clue.
Thank you for the update. I will be making a follow-up video showcasing more of your products this weekend. I will add this information to that video as well. Thank you again.
my landscape company had " no spill" spouts for our machines for the last 25 years and they all worked well. Of course there were some tricks to show the employees but in the end everybody knew how to poure with one hand and hold the tool if necessary.Just in case there was a spill I always had them refill in the trailer. Also some people think they can put them on containers bigger than 2 gallons and I say no way.Btw...the air bleeder cap is actually used to slow down the pouring four 2cycles.
I ended up completely ripping all the guts out of the tube along with the handle and it works perfect now. Though I noticed that the tube has a vent in it so I don't need the small vents.
You could cut off either the tab on the can, or the tab on the nozzle, but when unscrewing the nozzles with gloves on (think snow and winter) I like having a little more of a purchase point to unscrew the nozzle.
most ridiculous use of big government I've ever seen... ends up spilling tons of gas and polluting the environment. This was a solution to a nonexistent problem by big government nannies. Give me the old style gas cans any time.
Great video, those extra locking are pain and not really necessary. The ones on my can were so cheaply made they them self break apart in as year or so of constant use.
Unreal and I did not expect that. As my aunt said about the Monica Lewinsky episode and the vast of characters.... "You can't write this kind of stuff".
The way the problem appears to being solved is that there are cans just like the old gasoline cans in design and materials which are marked "kerosine." If someone was to fill the can marked "kerosine" with something that has a lower and dangerous flashpoint like gasoline, and use it in a dangerous manner that catches them on fire, the person cannot hire a personal injury attorney who will claim the company was unable to produce a gasoline can that was totally safe and idiot proof. Instead, the defense attorneys would point out that the can was only to be used for kerosine as marked. The plaintiff attorney's client used their product for something that it was not designed and there were clear markings. Idiot and his attorney can't collect money and people can still buy the old gasoline cans now marked "kerosine."
Tricks are what I need... maybe the blended gas here is not the same as where you are, but it just wrecks the cheap O-rings they use on the pull back nozzles.
Eventually they will, but it seems like every year the lawyers change design and requirements, so they are not even bothering to fix an issue that will be "illegal" in a year.
Invariably you will still get fragments of plastic in the can. What you need to do is after you've drilled the hole for the vent is fill the can with water and slosh it around pour it out, then repeat until all the fragments are gone. Let the can completely dry and you're good to go. Thanks to the Environmental Phuck-up Agency!
I added vents to all of my new cans so they actually work properly now, pours gas a lot faster and no more spraying gas 10ft from building pressure in the summer.
great tips, yeah that store and pour lever was the first thing to go on my diesel can. It also takes 2x as long to empty the can into the tractor as my old can because the new ones are non vented "spill proof" ( were all idiots apparently)
Nice dewalt knife btw. I have the same one and I bought it to replace a husky knife that fell apart as I was using it at work. The dewalt knife is now my favorite utility knife.
Thats a good idea. I have about 5 of those brand gas cans in the 5 gallon version for filling my portable generator. I usually unscrew the spout and remove it completely but I like your idea. I think there is a newer generation of gas cans now that appear to be more user friendly.
Hey MR FRITZ MY FRIEND!!!!!!! Keep them oldies as long as you can,,, they will never come back! I have a few of your vids to catch-up on. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Thank you this video and telling everyone about my store! I was in the same boat as everyone else such stupid EPA regulated gas cans, I needed something better. I found them and now want to pass it on to everyone!!!!
thanks for for sharing this i hate those style of gas can, they are so hard to use and with all those saftey things on them it just makes me spill more gas
No kidding...I'm self employed and I would LOVE to run my finances the way the Govt does... Hardly a party thing though... seems like everyone in there has their heads up their rear ends.
I was going to modify my plastic gas jug today. Drilled a 1/16" hole in the handle for venting, But found that the Stop - Pour lever has a step down that will keep the lever in the pour position, So I will keep it that way. The only modification was the 1/16" vent and it should work much better...
I just drill a hole to fit whatever pipe plug I have handy and free. Works great. Even if I hade to buy a pipe plug, it would be a lot less then a buck and no waiting on shipping as all hardware stores have them by the hundreds.
mine don't have the green lever this a good idea the new ones spill more gas than do any good there junk how do you fin the black tubes with the ring around them that you push down on till the gas runs all over the mower cause you can't close them fast enough l
Cool video. Look in the back vented portion of your drill next time your using it, you'll notice every time you turn the drill on it creates sparks. Not sure if that's the safest around gas lol!
Thanks, I never thought to try finding those vent caps. Now I can fix all my crappy cans! If the can is used, fill it with water before drilling to eliminate the possibility of it exploding.
You just undid 8 trillion dollars of government research, reviews, testing and implementation by people that never touch a gas can.:-)
I HATE the new cans. Supposedly it was designed to keep the gas from spilling but all it seems to have accomplished is to make sure you spill gas all over the place. Great ideas!
these new cans most likely have caused more environmental damage then the old cans just by causing more spills.
+SouthJerseySound Yep...and not to mention they are made in China that has absolutely no regard for the environment in their mfg. processes or the workers that make them.
Stupid Government Regulations are made to keep morons on our payroll. After all, politicians need to pay for favors. Great video!

in slavic places people use detergent containers for gas cans 😂 just have to clean them before using them for gas
I've done all of the modifications you demonstrated previously except for adding the vent cap. Thanks for the tip.
You're welcome Ross.

you really think the old cans were a problem?
civil disobedience against half-wit EPA mandarins. well done.
Great ideas. Good presentation. Very practical, easy and clever.
Thank you.
I love the cans with the tube stored inside... those are the best. This is another classic example of lawyers, who have never touched anything other than a pen and paper, making life more difficult for those who actually make the world go around.
I like learning new thungs and when they come with resources priceless ... thanks
I still have a few old style left, but at least I can modify the newer ones. Thanks for watching.
I have found the valve stems rubber softens with gas contact, but do work as a vent. I like the idea about the pump sprayer...gonna have to give it a try.
I had no idea you could buy vent caps! Been using a screw for the past couple years and it doesn't work nearly as well as what you did. Bravo!
I just modified my gas can last week. It had the spring and valve inside the spout. I ripped it out with a needle nose pliers. Works great now.
Very nice and also helpful.
I went a bit further though.
Since those pour spouts have always leaked for me causing me to spill more gas in a single fill up than they prevent evaporation or accidental spills I decided to just go to Rural King or Menards and buy a straight spout to replace the toggle handle pour spout.

about dam time someone uses some logic
i kept my old school cans

I was just ranting on this subject. Man you hit the nail on the head. Very happy you are still safe!!! I can only hope and pray that all of your inside house pillows have their tags on them.... Also do not eat high fat foods and drink sodas while trying to pour fuel
So far, I'm still safe... but you never know.. a polar vortex or some other made-up Bull-$hit drama situation might take me out.
Exactly and I agree whole heartedly:-0)
Great, Thanks for watching.
Couldn't agree more, these new cans are useless.
Especially when u run out of gas and it spills more gas then goes in the tank
I still have my grandpa's 30+ year old gas can. I was actually going to toss it and get a bigger one, til I saw this vid.
If the body of the can is in good shape, I would keep it... the newer cans are very thin and poorly made.
Don't just rip those parts off. Place them in an envelope addressed to the EPA with a little 'Kiss My Ass' note attached. Once they get enough of those they might get a clue.
Don't do that! If they get on to what we're doing, they will re-design the cans so we can't monkeywrench them.
@@briangodfrey5079 You seem to have unrealistic expectations about the power of the US government.
Thank you for the update. I will be making a follow-up video showcasing more of your products this weekend. I will add this information to that video as well. Thank you again.
Thanks for posting. Fight the power!

Your very welcome. I have a few other gas can mods to show. I will make a vid this weekend. Stay tuned.
That works well too... I have found the rubber gets soft when it comes in contact with the gas, though. Thanks for watching.
that's a great tip the style new can I have is the one where you have to push the nozzle to start the flow of gas and it rates high on the suck meter
+Fred Sitzenstock Those push style nozzles ALWAYS make a mess...
The EPA needs to go the way of the DODO bird!!!
I use the cans u buy at lowes true cans there the best
Very good presentation, very informative
good job, I hate government fuel cans (hate the stupid spouts) I got to convert all of mine to this, thanks again!
Just trying to make the best of a bad situation. Thanks for watching...your truck looks great by the way!
I ended up completely ripping all the guts out of the tube along with the handle and it works perfect now. Though I noticed that the tube has a vent in it so I don't need the small vents.
Awesome, they really make a diff with the pour.

good info, I still have one of the older cans with the vent, I better take better care of it. thanks for the info.
Cool..thanks for watching.
Unreal and I did not expect that. As my aunt said about the Monica Lewinsky episode and the vast of characters.... "You can't write this kind of stuff".

Glad this vid helped out, the new vent caps work like a charm.
Awesome...Thanks a ton! I started researching this after spilling a bunch of gas last night with the "no spill spout".
Tricks are what I need... maybe the blended gas here is not the same as where you are, but it just wrecks the cheap O-rings they use on the pull back nozzles.
We still have the normal can, with the tube stored it. If you weren't across the country I could buy you a bunch of them
I have thought about the larger gas totes...sure would make it easier than lugging around several 5-gallon cans.
Eventually they will, but it seems like every year the lawyers change design and requirements, so they are not even bothering to fix an issue that will be "illegal" in a year.
Great idea ! must do that as soon as the new gas arrives in my Country .
This will make my life so much easier. Thanks for sharing!
Kenny Houston Glad I could help out.

thank you for this knowledge.
I hate having to squeeze the gasoline out with the new ones.
Yeah, getting those caps off when you've got arthritis is a real pain - no pun intended.
I love the steel 5-gal cans I have...
thanks for for sharing this i hate those style of gas can, they are so hard to use and with all those saftey things on them it just makes me spill more gas
I am glad you did not drill a hole in the bottom of the new can.
Better than any Glock mod I've ever seen!

I really like that folding Dewalt... takes a lot of abuse and still functions.

Agree completely.
Very creative. Thank you
Thanks!
OMG your a LIFE saver !!
+JOE R Thanks Joe.
you bet, I wanted to do that but didn't know the vents where for sale. I ordered 10 ! i got 5 cans I use often ..
Indeed!
Cool video. Look in the back vented portion of your drill next time your using it, you'll notice every time you turn the drill on it creates sparks. Not sure if that's the safest around gas lol!
ssShortBoxKid⧓ haha, didn't notice that before. I should re-think any future drilling. thank you.
I've just noticed my drill sparks before, I would have probably done the same thing. No harm, no foul! Have a good one!
Thanks, I never thought to try finding those vent caps. Now I can fix all my crappy cans!
